I Will Eventually Embark on the Path of No Return Called a Hero [Arc2] - 26. Caught the Tail
---
"Mommy~ We're back."
Jack carefully pushed open the door, looking as if she was a child who had played out late into the night, worried that her strict parents would scold her severely.
"Ah~ Jack, you're back? The late-night snack is ready, with your favorite hamburger meat~" Reika Rikudou, wearing an apron, waved gently at Jack while holding a steaming hamburger patty.
"Great!"
Jack happily shouted and excitedly dashed into the room.
"How was your harvest tonight?" Reika Rikudou placed the hamburger meat on the table, removed her apron, and smiled warmly at Jack, who was swaying on the chair.
"Ah~ I ran into a bunch of bad guys," Jack stabbed the hamburger patty on her plate with a small knife in frustration. "That magician had a Servant, and there were other Servants who ambushed us."
"Just like the people from the daytime?" Reika Rikudou frowned. "Jack, are you injured?"
"It's okay, Mommy. Those bad guys weren't as powerful as the kind-hearted older brother from the daytime," Jack poked a piece of hamburger meat with her knife and stuffed it into her mouth. "But there are no more magicians in this city."
"Do we have to go to Trifas?" Reika Rikudou sighed. "But aren't there many beings like Jack there?"
"Because… the kind-hearted older brother from the daytime didn't allow us to attack ordinary people here, and ordinary people have very little magic," Jack tilted her head with some frustration. "But there are many edible things in Trifas."
"Isn't it very dangerous?" Reika Rikudou patted Jack's head.
"Don't worry, Mommy, we're very strong," Jack raised her head proudly.
"Hmm, then finish the last heart, and let's go to Trifas early tomorrow," Reika Rikudou nodded and turned to open the refrigerator, taking out a heart. "I will definitely fulfill your wish, Jack."
"Mm, you're the best, Mommy!"
If it weren't for the fact that Reika Rikudou was holding a heart, this could have been an incredibly warm mother-child scene.
…
"Bang————"
Sisigou skillfully shattered a car's window with the butt of a shotgun and then opened the car door.
"You're very skilled," Cyd tilted his head.
Sisigou took less than three minutes to choose a decent car, smash the glass, connect the wires, and ignite the engine. It was clear from his casual smoking that he had done this many times before.
"This isn't good," Laeticia, who had switched back, hesitated. As a well-educated girl, she should have called the police at such a sight, but Sisigou was her companion.
The kind-hearted girl was torn.
"Master, aren't you worried about missing the Holy Grail War because of being arrested?" Mordred complained while holding her snack bag.
"Come on, we can't just walk to Trifas. People would die!" Sisigou said with a bit of exasperation. "The knight doesn't have a steed."
"Even if there was, I wouldn't let you ride it," Mordred grinned and sat in the driver's seat.
"What are you doing?" Sisigou raised an eyebrow. "You don't have a driver's license."
"Huh? What's that? I have riding skills," Mordred patted her chest. "Unless it's a Fantastical Beast, there's no mount that I, Mordred, can't handle, although I've never driven this car before!"
Mordred's confident and assertive tone made Sisigou genuinely not want to get in the car.
"Maybe you should take another one," Cyd pointed to a nearby car.
"Alright… forget it," Sisigou sighed. He wanted to steal another car, as stealing one was the same as stealing two, but Laeticia's conflicted look made him feel a rare pang of conscience.
"The Lord will bless you!" Laeticia's eyes lit up.
"Ah~ Thanks," Sisigou, who was a necromancer, awkwardly sat in the passenger seat.
"Let's go," Cyd patted Laeticia's shoulder.
Laeticia nodded and got into the car.
"Aren't you coming?" Cyd looked at Atalanta, who was leaning against the streetlight and not moving.
"With my pace, I can reach Trifas before dawn," Atalanta spoke somewhat awkwardly.
"It's fine. I can use a Command Spell to send her back directly," Medusa's hand, marked with Command Spells, reached out from Cyd's shadow.
"Can't I go with you?" Atalanta's mouth twitched as she shoved Cyd and got into the car.
"Hugging and holding, such a lucky fellow~" Mordred teased with a sly smile and whistled.
Laeticia blushed, lowered her head, and seemed to be mumbling something.
Atalanta snorted, and her cat ears twitched.
Cyd blinked, feeling something furry brushing against the back of his hand, which made him a bit itchy.
Instinctively, Cyd grabbed the furry thing.
"Meow!" Atalanta yelped, but quickly covered her mouth with her hands, glaring at Cyd with fiery eyes.
Caught… the tail…
Cyd's mouth dropped open.
Wasn't this just a decoration? Does grabbing it actually feel real?
Atalanta's expression, more embarrassed than angry, made Cyd reluctant to let go. However, noticing the growing fire in Atalanta's eyes, Cyd decided to let go.
"I'm going to…"
"Let's go!"
Just as Cyd was about to release Atalanta's tail, Mordred slammed the accelerator.
"Boom----"
The car shot out like a wild horse.
The powerful inertia slammed everyone heavily against their seats.
"Let go, let go! I haven't fastened my seatbelt yet!" Sisigou fumbled with the seatbelt. "You put yours on too!"
"This kind of thing isn't needed at all!" Mordred grinned and tightened her grip on the steering wheel. Red lightning surged and quickly covered the surface of the car.
This troublesome kid even used magic to modify the car!
Laeticia screamed and clung to Cyd's waist. As a quiet girl who prayed to her Lord, she had never experienced such excitement before; her instinctive fear overshadowed her shyness.
Mordred's sudden acceleration startled Cyd. Instinctively, he gripped Atalanta's furry tail tightly.
"Mm, meow!" Atalanta, covering her mouth, leaned weakly on Cyd's shoulder. Though her face was red, and she was breathing heavily, her cat ears kept twitching. Her murderous glare was definitely not a joke.
"I'm definitely going to… kill you!"
Confused, Cyd temporarily forgot to let go.
