Her words only helped to make the monsters more aggressive as they charged forward.
"Guar!"
"Kiki!"
"Reee!"
The first one to reach her was a kobold that had the body shape of a human but was furry and had a wolf head.
It had greyish blue fur, sharp claws and a skinny looking physique that did not look that strong.
It had a savage look in its glowing red eyes as it lunged forward and raised its arm to slash Mallory with its sharp claws. "Grawr!"
There were five other kobolds that were circling Mallory as they waited for a chance to strike.
Just as they had saw one of their own take the lead, they came at Malory from different angles as some of them held out or up their arms to prepare for a slash while others opened their mouths wide in preparation for a bite as they lunged more recklessly towards her.
Mallory took a step back and lowered her body a little to take up a stable foothold then took up a basic stance as Valis was pointed towards the closest kobold.
A flash of her spear ended its life in a single instant and the flurry of simple spear thrusts were aimed towards the throats and hearts of the kobolds.
It happened in a single instant and Mallory could feel the warm feeling spread through her body once again as the Excelia had risen within her.
Even while she was away from the city, Mallory gained Excelia through those that had carried her talismans with them and had overcome their hardships once they had triggered.
There would always be some time in between each gain of Excelia due to that and some gains were not worth paying attention to.
However even if the gains were smaller or came much later, they had added up and could be put to use once she had wished to use them to upgrade her status.
It was better when she did much bigger things and touched the lives of so many more people through her actions, that way she would gain more Excelia but fighting monsters was always the most obvious and rewarding option.
Monsters were not just within the dungeon but were spread out throughout Orario and caused problems around the world.
They attacked merchants, travellers, villages, cities and some could even wipe out an entire country if they were that powerful.
Adventurers were the ones to keep them in check and would reduce their population the best they could but not even the toughest of adventurers could handle how they were never ending.
If an adventurer did not die in battle then they would succumb to their old injuries or old age while the monsters would continue to be reborn and would plague the later generations.
More monsters would escape the dungeon and would help to increase the numbers of the monsters that caused problems all around the world.
If a person was fated to be hurt or die by a monster she had killed or by the monster lure being placed where it was then she would have not just gained Excelia through killing the monsters but also through preventing those tragedies.
If she did not have her compass then nobody would have noticed the lure until it was much too late.
The kobolds could not get close to her due to the long reach of Valis which had pierced into their flesh, their bodies broke apart and turned into a dark mist, one had become slightly lighter once again as it had broken apart then begun to dissipate.
Mallory sent a small amount of magic power into Valis to replenish the magic power that the magic stone had lost due to the activation of the purification effect.
The battle did not end there due to the crowd of monsters that had been drawn out by the monster lure being not just the kobolds.
More goblins had recklessly approached but were torn in half or beheaded by Valis before the could get anywhere close to her.
The moment that another kobold or goblin got within the range of Valis they would be pierced or cut in a flash.
The monsters were not just the small goblins that fought recklessly or the kobolds which had lunged towards her from different directions, there were others which had taken other approaches.
There was a group of brown lizards which had strange suckers on their feet, they had stuck the selves to the trees and climbed above Mallory before dropping down onto her.
Mallory had finished piercing a kobold then leaned back a little as Valis was pointed upward. "Did you really think I did not notice you?"
She adjusted her stance and thrust towards the lizards which continued to hit on target with every thrust.
The dungeon lizards were dangerous due to them being able to conceal themselves and climb up to places they could ambush people in the dungeon but they were easier to spot within the forest where there was sunlight shining through the tops of the trees.
Their movements were less stealthy due to them walking on the branches of the trees which had created enough sound for Mallory to pick up on.
A couple of frog shooters launched their long extendable tongues towards her but they were cut before they could reach her.
The only time that Mallory did not stand her ground and hold the zone that her Valis could defend and attack within was when she encountered the frog shooters that tried to catch her with their extendable tongues so they could try to swallow her.
Their attempts to catch her while she was distracted had annoyed her so she finished up the remaining lizards then appeared by the frog shooters.
A humanoid shaped shadow appeared near a tree which was close by where she had slain a frog shooter then three sharp claws that were like daggers had aimed towards her back.
The appearance was revealed to be a dark humanoid figure that was named as a war shadow by those within the dungeons.
Another humanoid figure had jumped into the battle too as if it had been waiting for the opportunity.
It had a strong muscular humanoid body that was furry and the head of a tiger, it did not attack right away as the war shadow did and instead waited until a little later.
Mallory sidestepped and turned around to pierce the war shadow then changed her grip on it as she thrust the other end of it backwards.
The blunt end of Valis hit the ligerfang which had waited for its chance to strike in the throat. "Grawr."
The ligerfang was a tiger monster that was in no way inferior to the minotaur in terms of combat power but it was unable to land a clean hit on Mallory.
Instead it had been hit in the throat and had been delayed slightly.
It tried to regain control over the battle as more war shadows ambushed Mallory but she took the fight to it and did not let it slip away.
It raised its claws to swipe at her in an attempt to take her down with it but Mallory did not let it get so close.
Its heart was pierced and it dissipated just before many quick flashes of Valis had happened which had ended the war shadows and many other smaller monsters that took the opportunity to join the battle.
Once the battle had ended and the mists had fully dissipated, Mallory wasted no time in gathering the spoils of war then continued onward to the next destination. "Nothing was really that great of a challenge… I guess the ligerfang was okay but even that could be defeated with the piercing power of Valis and my current stats."
Mallory only used her spear to battle and used no other tricks since she did not feel the need to but there was another reason.
It was too wasteful to use her talismans on lower grade monsters that she could handle on her own and she needed real combat experience without her talismans or the use of her kunai.
It was her first monster battle with a big enough group which could cause many adventurers a lot of trouble but she had survived without having any of her protective talismans being triggered so she was quite pleased with her progress.
