Introducing familiars

Leon noticed that despite being quick to anger genesis was actually pretty relaxed most of the time. as a newborn leon was capable of teaching genesis to control himself when he was angry. this was very easy surprisingly as leon discovered that the familiar bond increased genesis's intelligence to human levels. leon theorized that this was because an unintelligent creature even one as powerful as genesis would be more trouble than it's worth since they were uncontrollable. familiars were meant to amplify and control ones power but they are also supposed to support their masters and be genuinely helpful.

At first glance genesis's species seemed like a horrible choice for this but if you remove or control their bad attitudes and give them human level thinking ability it's the exact opposite. leon proved this when he spent the last two days till his next class fixing genesis's anger issues. on saturday leon (with ozpin's permission) brought genesis to his class with the small dragon curious about literally everything. it didn't help that everyone who saw genesis did a double take in surprise and curiosity at him , genesis didn't mind the attention at all thanks to his innate pride as and elder dragon.

This time leon only terraformed the area to be completely flat hard ground perfect for what he has in mind. leon had realized after interacting with genesis for the last two days that if he were to allow other hunters to summon familiars of their own that it would become far easier to deal with grim. think about it , most grim tend to ignore animals so if the familiar was careful it could find hidden grim or warn their partner of ambushes. flying familiars or aquatic familiars would be massively useful on land or at sea for all manner of things.

Ozpin agreed to allow leon to use the first year students as a test group to find out if such a useful thing was worth the risk. there was indeed a risk involved with gaining a familiar in that the bond was soul deep so if one side were to die the other would be struck a very heavy blow directly to their souls. such a blow may drive the person mad or simply kill them if they are lucky. the worse case scenario however is the trauma from the loss echoing and amplifying the wound to the soul until it shatters , erasing that person in their entirety.

The benefits far out weighed the risk in ozpins mind however as this meant that humanity might be able to overtake the grim. all it took was a single extremely powerful familiar to turn the tide of a horde siege. ozpin's biggest concern however was that the dark side of humanity might use the familiars to cause untold destruction or gods forbid salem gets a familiar. leon assuaged these concerns by saying that he could easily add a stipulation in the summoning circle that those with evil or twisted personalities would fail to achieve anything.

In the teaching field as leon called it , he first drew a large circle of concealing script to prevent the summoning circle from getting out via whoever keeps recording the classes. next to that he drew an EMP type circle that would fry any electronical devices the students tried to sneak in to record the process. with those safety precautions in place leon then started to draw out the evil rejection modified summoning circle that was just like the one he used in mount glen but unnoticeably larger.

Leon was just finishing it up when the first student arrived and stared in shock and confusion at the huge opaque dome in the middle of the field guarded by what appeared to be a miniature dragon. it was clear that whatever this scene was it clearly must be leons doing since the weird letters on the ground making up the circle he had used to change out of his gravity suit. speaking of the gravity suit atlas had been breathing down leons neck about him keeping the good stuff for himself. they had even tried to use patriotism to coax him into sharing the secrets of the suit with them.

Leon finished with the modified summoning circle when the second team showed up giving the small dragon and opaque dome a weird look. leon walked out of the circles and looks at the two teams and simply says "wait". the final team arrived thirty minutes later and leon finally began to speak to the class as a whole. "these symbols on the ground are part of a language that i discovered (technically not a lie) and perfected the use of. they could even be considered magical in nature but before anyone asked no , i will not be teaching the language to anyone , ever. the potential of these symbols makes them too dangerous the spread so they'll follow me to the grave." he said seriously.
