Build a trap

"If it wasn't obvious by now the next thing you'll need to learn is how to identify and avoid traps." leon said while stepping out of his hidden location. still chained the students simply glare at him as he shows up but he ignores them. "all of you have no doubt improved greatly during this week , however despite this almost all of you still fell into a trap due to carelessness. once again there were signs of this all around you if you looked , such as the loose dirt under your feet that was normally hard." leon said calmly.

The chains released the whole class right after leon finished speaking before vanishing like dust. the reason for this was because of the self destruction mechanism leon added to the capture circles. these creations of leons actually had no use outside of traps and imprisonment which was why he didn't use them very often since removing the challenge just makes his training harder. for this lesson however they served perfectly as an example for his students with a minor tweak. "now that the fun part is over i will now explain how this lesson will go. i will narrate a situation and you will think of a way to set a trap in it." leon said calmly.

"Remember that i expect each of you to give me your answers , in addition i will only listen to each of you for a single trap in order to ensure each of you answers. the first scenario is that a hunter is walking through a swamp much like that of the first lesson i gave each of you. its early morning and the hunter will arrive in your area in two hours , how do you trap him?" leon asked calmly.

The first person to raise their hand was actually not pyrrha like normal but cardin oddly enough. leon gave him the go ahead and he began talking. "what would i have available with me at this time?" he asked seriously and leon nodded " an excellent question to start off with and also the most important as no matter what you are limited by your resources. to answer your question however you have your standard hunter load out with rope , a tarp and your weapon and clothes." leon said calmly. cardin thinks about it for a moment and gives his version of a trap for this scenario.

"First i will camouflage my rope and tarp with the available mud and moss before rigging a wide mouthed snare under the murky water set to pull them prone. then i'll set up the tarp nearby in order to attack while the hunter is busy struggling against the snare." he said seriously and many of his classmates nodded at how effective such a trap would likely be. "a simple but effective method for this scenario , but would you like to know a better version?" leon asked with a smile. cardin seemed rather interested in this and nodded.

"Your plan is of course still there however in addition you use the branches of nearby trees to create spikes hidden under the water so that the hunter takes additional damage when they fall. you could also likely poison said spikes with local wild life since swamps tend to grow poisonous things." leon said with his smile and after thinking about it for a moment cardin agrees that that is an improvement on his own idea. "feel free to relax for the rest of the lesson mr.winchester , you've passed with flying colors." leon told the boy who nods and takes a seat nearby on the ground.

The rest of the class were excited at how easy this lesson seemed after that however it became clear that while some of the scenarios were easy to plan a trap for others were anything but easy. one such example was when building your evil lair and you needed to account for any possible variables when planning your traps. the caveat was that you also had unlimited resources but were unaware of who your opponent was nor their abilities. this sounded easy at first glance but it was in fact a deep pit of calculations and hopeful thinking to even begin to account for as many variables as possible.
