Chapter Two
"Damn! I hate this!"My Dad complained
"This is all your fault Jocelyn"Owen blamed
"Me? Isn't you who won't let me in the bathroom in the first place?"I accused
"Now dear, blaming each other won't move the traffic jam"my Dad replied
"Or would it?"Owen pointed to the moving cars
"Thank goodness,and only five minutes to spare"my Dad replied
We got to the school before 8am. The school buses pulled over at the entrance of the school and the students came down. I felt a bit nervous seeing the students, expect for this girl. She was kind of a nerd,as Owen would say. She wore blue glasses,had freckles on both cheeks and had braces on her teeth. She held a Chemistry textbook and accidentally bumped into Owen.
"Watch where you're going"Owen cautioned and gave her back her textbook which she dropped
"So... Sorry"She said nervously without raising her head
"Another nerd"Owen teased
"Dad, Owen is making fun of that girl"I squealed
"No,I wasn't"Owen denied
"Yes, you were and I've it recorded on my cellphone"I threatened
"You wouldn't"Owen said
"Watch me"I dared him
"Enough you two,it time to go in or you'll both be late for class"My Dad said
"Okay"We both replied
"Good,shall we go in?"my Dad said
"Yeah"I replied
We all entered inside the school. The school is much bigger in the inside than it is on the outside. It has a lot of lockers, arranged in a long column and students compare to my old school. There was a lot of school activities to sign up for but I couldn't decide on which one to pick. I was good in cheerleading in my old school but I don't think I'll make the team. Let's see, basketball...nah. Cooking...nope. I don't want to burn down another kitchen. Soccer...hell no. I could still remember my broken arm which left me in the hospital for weeks but it did get me from skipping chores. What the acapellas? I'm good at singing and I do live music. I'll give it a try. Owen went to his class while I accompained my Dad to the principal's office.
"Good morning Ms,I would like to see Principal Don"my Dad said to the secretary
"Hold on a minute"the secretary replied, making a phone call to the principal
"Sir, they're some people who would like to see you. Should I let them in?"she said
"Uh-huh...Okay sir,I'll do just that"she said and hung up
"The principal will see you now"she said
"Okay"my Dad replied
"Right this way please"she said
The secretary accompanied us to the principal's office like an exscort. She knocked on the door before she entered. the
"Sir?"she said
"Yes, please do come in"Principal Don responded
Mr..?"Principal Don said trying to remember my Dad's name
"McDonald"my Dad replied
"Yes, McDonald. It's nice to meet you. Please have a seat"Principal's Don offered
"Thank you"my Dad said and sat down
"Gina,you.may go now"Principal Don said
His secretary left, leaving on my Dad and I alone in his office.
"And you must be our new pupil. What's your name dear?"Principal Don asked
"Jocelyn...McDonald"I stammered
"She's a bit shy. Today is actually her first day of school"my Dad explained
"Oh,I see. Here in Victoria High,we make sure every student feels comfortable. This isn't just a pledge but a promise"Principal Don said
"I'll be on my way now. I've go to work. Do you mind taking her to class?"my Dad asked
"No at all, that way I can have a little chat with my new pupil"Principal Don assured with a smile
"Thank you sir. Bye sweetie"my Dad said and gave me a peck on my forehead and left
"Bye"I replied
"Shall we?"Principal Don asked
"Yes"I nodded
Principal Don took me to my class. We passed through the hallway,which was awfully quiet. It almost felt like I was in one of those horror movie I watched in the cinema. We passed a lot of lockers, classrooms which seems like forever.
"Ah! We're here"Principal Don announced
My heart skipped a beat and ran really fast. Tension flowed through my vain and made me more nervous.
"Good morning Principal Don"the students chorused
"Good morning students"Principal Don replied
"Class, this is your new classmate, Jocelyn McDonald"Principal Don introduced
"Jocelyn, these are your classmates. Class, please try to be nice to Jocelyn, okay?"Principal Don said
"Okay"chorused the class
"Umm... you"he pointed at a girl which almost looked like the girl I had met earlier today
"Me...me?"she stammered
"Yes you. I want to give Jocelyn a tour around the school during recess"he ordered
"Okay,I will"she replied
"Okay, now that's settled. I'll you continue with your learning. Excuse me"Principal Don said and left
"Welcome to Victoria High, Jocelyn. I'm Ms Candy and I'm your History teacher. If you would just take a seat, we'll begun today's lesson"Ms Candy said
I wanted to sit at the front row but this mean girl won't let me
"Umm... sorry dear,this seat is for acapellas only"she said rudely
"Oh, sorry"I said and stood up.
I was still looking for a place to sit when someone called me
"Hey! Jocelyn! You can sit next to me"the girl with blue glasses said
"Thanks!"I said and sat down
"I'm Claudia by the way"she introduced
"Now class,open page 147 of your History text book"Ms Candy said
I finally made it to recess. I got through with all the lesson and surprisingly,made it through Chemistry class. I still couldn't believe Mr Benson is a slower speaker compared to his handsome physique. I was really excited about my tour with my new friend, Claudia. Claudia is kind of shy but sweet once you get to know her.
"Now Jocelyn, welcome to Victoria High, again. Home to many great leaders. Before we begin our tour,I would like you to observe your landmarks closely and fun facts about our school, okay?"Claudia said
"Okay"I replied
"Victoria High; gotten from the name of its founder,Late Ms Victoria Gomez,is one of the best schools in Florida. We are know for our good sportsmanship, intelligence and team work. Here we try to maintain good relationship with others but unfortunately, is not exhibited by all. This is the trophy case, where all the trophies are displayed for the views of the students and staffs. It contains the names of the winners and competitions attended. It's only for display purpose,so not touching or you might get into to trouble. Next we have the art room,for mainly arts and crafts, school plays and so on. We have the school auditorium for morning assemblies. We have the library, filled with analog and digital life. Trust me,it's the best way to be when you're free. Over there is the cafeteria and next to it is the school mascot, Kimmy the bear. Over here we have our garden, music studio, restroom and lastly the hallway. I guess that's everything on my list"Claudia said
"What about the school clubs?"I asked
"That's basically left for you to decide. But please don't join the acapellas. They're really mean especially their leading soloist, Brianna Brown. She thinks she's so pretty that the world revolves around her"Claudia said
"There goes the bell. It's time for the next class. Shall we?"Claudia asked
"Yeah,sure"I replied and we both went to class.
The last bell rang which means that school was finally over. Owen walked home from school while I rode the bus with Claudia. We kept on chatting till the bus pulled over at my house.
"See you tomorrow Claudia"I waved her goodbye
"Hi Coco, how are you?"I petted my puppy who was waiting anxiously for me to arrive home
I opened the door and sat down comfortably at the couch.
"Mom,I'm home"I yelled but got no response
"Hmm... maybe she went to the supermarket"I assumed
I went upstairs,kept my bag on my desk,change into my robe and went downstairs to freshen up. I went back upstairs,got dressed, took my uniform to the washing machine down the basement and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch for my self. There wasn't much foodstuffs in the kitchen,so I had to make do with whatever I sat in the refrigerator. I saw a box of leftover pizza and a can of grape soda. I kept my pizza in the microwave for about a minute and turned it off. I went to the living room with my pizza and soda and turned on the TV. I kept Coco busy with her chew toy while I enjoyed myself with my lunch. I kept on clicking the remote to find any exciting movies till I found one. I was about to take a bite of my pizza when my cellphone rang,
"Hi Angela"I said
"Hey Jocky,how are you?"Angela said
"I'm good and you?"I asked
"Same as always"she replied
"How's everyone back home?"I asked
"We're all fine. How's Florida?"she asked
"It's nice,I guess"I said
"We miss you so very much"she said
"I do too"I replied
"How about your new school? Did you make any friends over there?"she asked
"Yeah, just one. Owen thinks is a nerd"I replied
"Not bad on your first day"she complimented
"So how is the old neighborhood? Anything fun going on?"I asked
"Nope. It doesn't feel like home without you guys"she said
"Oh,is that so?"I said,a bit disappointed
"Jocelyn, I've got a lot of good news to tell you"she said excitingly
"What is it?"I asked
"Well you remember Mr Williams,our music teacher?"she began
"He..."she paused
"Angela dear, could you give Butterscotch a bath while I go over to Ms Miller's to pick some tulips from her garden"I over heard her mom on the phone
"Later mom I'm busy on the phone"she said
"I want it done now. Remember you have violin lessons at 5 and you definitely don't want to keep Mr Tyler waiting"her mom said
"Fine,I'll do the right way"she said
"Sorry girlfriend, maybe later"she said
"Yeah,I'll call you back when you're less busy"I said
"Bye"she said and hung up
"By..e"I said
"Well Coco,it's just you and me"I said
