Chapter thirty-eight

Riley's POV:

I open my eyes with a groan. I don't remember falling asleep. I look around and find myself in Alec... our room at the palace.

I bolt up, regretting the action immediately. Ugh. My whole body hurts. No, more than hurting, it felt numb, an uncomfortable feeling over my skin. The drug wearing out maybe?

I look around but I was alone in the room, and the scent of my mate and my friends were faint. I frown, confused. Where are they?

I get up not paying attention to how weird my body felt and go down the stairs to open the door. Out in the hallway, I see two royal guards standing stiffly facing my door.

"Where's my mate?" I was not going to play around. The scents here were faint too, only the scents of the guards being strong. I simply can't explain their absence. I was abducted and tortured, and I needed my mate's company, to reassure me that everything is okay, that we are okay. Is Alec still hiding from me because of our argument?
