"What is wrong with you?" my aunt yelled at me when I flung the door open. She held my wrist and checked to see if I was bleeding. She thought I was going to commit suicide. But how will I? Not now, that there was a beautiful man in my life.
"Nothing, aunt," I said with a smile. I could not hide it away from her.
"Is this supposed to be funny?" queen Ivy asked. "You scared all, sweetheart."
"Forgive me, please" I apologized as soon as I realize how much it had affected her.
"I knew there was nothing wrong with her" Ember said. She was leaning against the wall by my left.
"What happened?" the queen asked her.
"Lord Azriel whispered few words to her ears and she rushed to the carriage" Ember narrated. I wished she didn't.
"Who is this Lord Azriel?" Queen Ivy asked with her eyes darted. I looked at Ember and wished she remain silent. If they find out that I'm spending time with a Baron, my aunt might leak it to my father to mock him. She always thought she was better than him.
"He is the most handsome and wanted Lord of Akkad," Ember said with a smile on her face suddenly. She was happy to betray me. What happened the other day was just a minor incident. Even Azriel had forgiven me. Why can't my sister do the same?
I clenched my hands into fists when queen Ivy looked at me. I was not supposed to answer anyone but in this case, I was going to…have to.
"Who is this man, princess?" she asked in a tempting voice that melted me. I would have told her this lord, everyone was talking about was in love with me. Not only that, I was beginning to fall for this man as well.
"He is nobody, queen Ivy" I managed to say. My answer surprised Ember. She gave me a disdainful look. I just denied Lord Azriel like he did not mean anything to me. I failed again.
"If he is nobody so what was…" Ember began but I did not let her finish this.
"Can we call it a night?" I asked holding the doorknob. It was high time they left for their rooms. The expressions on their faces made me look through the window.
It was still afternoon. There was still time to spend with the family before night. But I didn't. I have so much to do.
Before they could say a word, I closed the door and leaned against it. A smile appeared on my face when they started banging on the door.
I have to shut it this way. Tomorrow was going to be a big day for me. The strongest of all the men will win my father's heart. He was going to be on the list of top suitors.
I wondered if Azriel would participate. He was a Baron and I had no idea if the contest was available to him. I wished he could participate and win. If not the first, something close.
I sat on my bed and started reading books about genasi. The banging on the door died shortly and I understood that they got tired.
Aunt might report me to father if she heard about this lord Azriel again. After the tournament, I was going to talk to my cousin, Ember. She should stay out of my way. I wondered why she would pick I interest in our matter when she had her own man to think about.
But who was this man? Why was she secretive? I would never betray her as long as she gives me no reason to.
I opened the book on my lap and went through the pages. A water genasi can summon rain at anytime as long it learns how to control its powers. But when angry, a water genasi can summon rain.
I thought about the sudden change in the weather this morning. Dark clouds began to cover the sky but they stopped so quickly. There was no rain at all.
Akkad got rid of these creatures long before I could crawl. They were dangerous and heartless towards humans. Father told me that they wanted to take over the empire and rule.
He did not allow that to happen. Neither will I. I read through the passage briefly. The fire genasi was in this book.
I wondered if this creature existed in the first place. The witch who was found at the temple three years ago deceive us. She wanted us to be afraid…that's why she spoke about the wildfire genasi.
"Nonsense," I said all of a sudden and closed the book. Placing it under the pillow, I got from the bed and opened the door. There was no one closed except for a maid passing by.
I told her to get my maid Lyla. After that, I closed my door and went to my bed. Lyla was closer to me than anyone. She was going to explain this wetness I was feeling.
Lyla was experienced. She got married before moving to the palace. Her husband left her for another woman in their second year of marriage. He said she was barren. Free
