Chapter 2: A Legendary Quest!!

"Breaking news! The most advanced VR technology team, ATLAS, is finally opening their newest game's servers today!" Luna beamed as she watched the news in the living room with her brother and father.

"Luna! Did you preorder the game from Martha?" Aster, Luna's brother, asked.

"Of course! Martha's dad is one of the head developers!" Luna said proudly. She then sighed. "Too bad we can't get info since the super AI would be the actual thing to run the game. The devs have no info on items or non-main story quests."

"Come on! We get to experience the system's best NPC algorithm that was improved by the system's greatest developers!" Aster smiled in excitement.

"As long as it doesn't affect your grades." their father, Michael, said as he browsed the news on his smart glasses. "Especially you, Luna. You're a senior now, you should decide on what you want to do in the future."

"Don't worry, dad. I got an entire year to decide." Luna said awkwardly. She always disliked how her father managed to make everything they talk about into a lecture about studying. She was an excellent student, except that she wasn't. She was smart, but in no way a good student. She never paid attention nor participated and was always asleep or daydreaming in class. It was mostly due to playing VR games all the time. Her parents let her do as she liked as long as she maintained her grades. They knew that things like highschool were unimportant in the real world. Highschool was just to socialize, familiarize students with the different subjects and get the papers to get into university, where people actually learned what they'd need in their careers.

"Alright, let's go! The servers will be open in 2 hours!!" Aster couldn't contain his excitement.

"Not so quickly, mister." Lora, the two's mother, sounded out as she came out of the kitchen. "Two hours is perfect. You can eat dinner, then go play your game."

The family of four ate dinner together at the table before the two siblings rushed to their rooms, entering their full-dive pods. Luna messaged Martha, telling her to login, find out her location, logout and send the info to her. They needed to group up in the game since the game would send them to random places across the giant map.

Luna would play DPS, Martha would be the Healer and Aster would be the Tank.

She then closed the lid of the pod. "Username: Luna. Password: Aster get out of my room."

Luna then found herself in a black space with a giant screen in front of her.

"Please choose an application to launch."

"Launch Virtual Worlds."

"Launching 'Virtual Worlds'."

Luna then entered a white space. She smiled as she heard a voice.

Welcome, Player! Before starting your experience within Virtual Worlds, we need your consent to be sent into a universal existence where the laws of the real world do not necessarily hold true within specific areas. Do you consent to being sent into Virtual Worlds?

"Ominous!" Luna chuckled to herself. "I agree."

Please educate yourself on your region's laws and rules. Ignorance of rules does not mean you are innocent. If you break any in-game laws, you will be prosecuted within the region by the NPCs. Any lawless areas are devoid of any punishment by the NPCs. You can freely do any illegal activity within these lawless areas, even activities that are illegal within the real world, but the system will place a bounty on your head that will go down with time.

"What the fuck? How's this any different from just resetting civilization?" Luna wondered to herself.
