A Typical Romance

* DOVE *

I sat on the stool facing the counter as I typed away furiously at my phone, texting with Ava, my sister, giving her all the latest news, when Nicholas' text popped up on my screen and I opened it without hesitation.

"Where are you now?" I smiled at his text and messaged back.

"Rosie's Cafe, why?"

"No reason. Stay there."

I put my phone down and picked up the book in front of me.

A typical romance- boy meets girl- they fall in love, face some hardships but come back stronger, the end.

I sighed loudly when the guy in the novel did a whole out-of-the-world love confession for the girl.

Where's my out-of-the-world confession?

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice someone behind me until they ran a hand through my hair and an intoxicating cologne enveloped me. I shuddered.

"Cold?" He whispered in my ear but I shook my head, as his arms wrapped around my waist and I smiled, relaxing into the embrace and letting my head rest on to his chest. He chuckled as the barista placed his black coffee in front of us and eyed us, smiling at me. He was a young blonde guy with brown eyes. I smiled back at him when I felt the arms around me tighten and the barista paled before scurrying off.

Great, he's ruining my chances with the barista now.

"I heard that." He said and my eyes widened.

"Did I say that out loud?" I asked and he hummed in response. "Great." He chuckled and reached for his coffee but I beat him to it, and quickly took a sip of it. I never had black coffee before, but it was exhilarating, and I shuddered.

"Do you like it?" He asked me.

"Maybe." I said, putting down the cup, my faint lipstick leaving a stain on the cup where my lips had been. He picked the cup up and traced the stain with his fingers and I gulped.

"What does it taste like?" He asked me and I smiled.

"You."

Silence, and then I heard a deep chuckle. "Me? How so?"

"It tastes dark, edgy... with a hint of dangerous and thrilling... A little exhilarating too. Kinda addicting." I told him and he hummed in response.

"Do you like it?" He asked me again but I knew that he was asking me about him more than the coffee this time.

"I do." I whispered and he kissed the top of my head, turning the stool around so I faced him.

"Am I dark? Edgy? Thrilling and dangerous?" He asked me as he bent low to look into my eyes and I nodded.

"Yes.." I whispered, and he leaned forward enough that our lips were almost touching, and my eyes fluttered closed.

"Am I addicting?" He whispered and I sucked in a sharp breath.

"Yes.." I whispered and he crashed his lips onto mine and I tasted it... The thrill, the danger, the darkness... It was addicting.

He kissed me deeply and passionately, leaving me breathless when he pulled away and gazed into my eyes. He took his coffee and eyed the lipstick stain on the cup, before smirking and putting his lips where mine had been and taking a long sip of his coffee.

He put the cup down and leaned down, kissing me again and I tasted the coffee this time, as I felt it flow into my mouth. He pulled back smiling and I smiled at him, realizing what he did.

"Huh. It tasted sweeter now.." I said and he chuckled at me.

"Do you want me to do it again?" He asked me, coming closer and I blushed, shaking my head.

"That's okay. I already had coffee. Twice." I raised two fingers and he nodded. When he finished his coffee he put his cup back on the counter and I looked at his lips, that were slightly pink now because of my lipstick, and probably because he drank from where my lipstick left a stain.

He was typing something on his phone and before I changed my mind, I go up from my stool and wiped his lips with my thumb. His eyes flicked to mine and then my thumb that was still near his lip.

All of it happened in slow motion, as he held my hand and placed a kiss on my wrist then brought my hand down.

"What do you think you're doing?" He asked me so softly.

"Wiping the lipstick from your lips. Pink doesn't look very nice on you... But I have a feeling red would." I gave him a sly smile and he smirked.

"Oh I know." He then leaned down to whisper, his hot breath fanning my ear. "It looked great on me last night." He smirked, pulling away and I blushed furiously when I remembered last night's events.

"Adoro quando arrossisci." (I love it when you blush.) He said.

I turned around and started packing my things.

"Where are you going?" He asked me.

"College. I still have some classes left." I told him, zipping my bag and turning to face him. "I'm gonna go now.." I smiled at him when he didn't move out of the way, then turned to walk around him but he caught my wrist.

"Wait. I'll take you, come on." He said.

"It's fine, I can walk." I told him and he shook his head.

"No I'll take you, come." He held my hand and led me to his car, his simple touch sending jolts of electricity through my body. I sat in his car as he opened the door for me and buckled the seat belt as he drove me to my college.

"Is this your last year?" He asked me when we entered the front gates and I nodded.

"Yeah." I told him and he hummed in response, stopping right at the entrance.

"What time will you be free?" He asked as he turned to face me and I looked out at the people who were staring at us and I looked back at him.

"Uh... My sister's going to pick me up. She's visiting so we were going to catch up today." I told him and he nodded.

"Alright. I'll come with." My eyes widened and I shook my head.

"No!" He frowned at me and I composed myself. "I mean, we're going to catch up and it's gonna be us girls... so I don't think you should come..." I smiled at him sheepishly and he thought for a while before speaking.

"What about Cole?" He asked.

"Oh, he has other plans." I told him and he nodded.

"Alright. I'll see you tomorrow then." I nodded at him and he placed a quick kiss on my lips before I got out of the car, blushing. People eyed me but I ignored them and went to class.

But boy I should've heard him when he whispered.

"I'll be right beside you."
