Chapter 6

Rey got out of bed and stretched. It has been a decent while since he has last slept in an actual bed. The two of them were in a town called Grrshire, it was a weird town but it had its moments. The town was known for its liquor. It made millions of gold coins a year on its sales.

Rey has gotten himself a few gold coins and after buying like items, he determined that a golf coin was roughly around 100 dollars back in his old world. Silver was worth one dollar whole copper was worth just a cent. Ther were other types of coins in this world as well but Rey would most likely never have one. Going by trends though, one could assume that a platinum coin would be worth 10,000 dollars.

Rey grabbed his dagger from off his desk and walked out of his room. Rey and the man have been staying at a local tavern that was cheap. It's been a week since they've arrived in town and he's only spent 10 silver for the room the entire time. The food was cheap as well, most dishes only cost a few copper. The more expensive ones were near one silver.

Opening his little pouch that he had on his hip, Rey could see that he still had 3 gold, 16 silver and 80 copper coins at his disposal. Rey threw 10 copper on the counter and asked for his usual breakfast from the owner. He smiled and brought it out right away. "We've been expecting you so we made it early!" He said. It was just a simple plate of eggs and some rice. It came with a small roll as well.

Rey had to meet the man for lunch which was still a few hours away. Rey thanked the owner and walked out of the tavern. He had planned on going to an area he found that was abundant with energy. He found it while training with the man. He was using the same technique that he was first taught by the man when he noticed it.

Rey sat down in a dark corner and focused on himself. Thanks to the man and thanks to the knowledge the medallion gave him, Rey was able to store energy in his body now. He used the technique taught to him by the man, but instead of focusing on his surroundings, he focused on himself. Doing this he was able to see the energy swirling around him. The next part was the hard part as he had to force the energy around him inside his body. Seeing as he can't cultivate as of yet he couldn't store much and soon reached his limit.

Reys meeting with the man for lunch was a daily occurrence. They met up for lunch and then would train afterwards. In the past week, Rey and the man learned to trust one another more. Rey decided to call himself Rey in front of the man instead of going by his given name in this world, Jasper.

"Rey! You need to focus!" Amiel was currently conducting combative training with Rey. Reys movements have gotten better over the past week but he was still sloppy. When on the defensive, Rey would easily be knocked off his footing. Whilst on the offense, he would trip over his own legs. "You need to plant yourself. I know you're not yet able to cultivate but...if you get your abilities top notch without the help of cultivation, you'll be a monster some day."

Rey placed his feet as hard as he could. He made sure to follow Amiel's form too the smallest detail. One leg slightly forward with a slight bend it. His torso was facing Amiel while his other leg was planted firmly just behind him. "I'm ready!" he said, anticipating the incoming attack. "Alright!" Amiel replied. He didn't attack right away and waited. When Amiel didn't attack, Rey loosened up and was knocked off his feet.

"You won't always know when they're going to attack. If you let your guard down for even a second against a cultivator...you will die!" Rey sat up and dusted himself off. "I know Mr. Amiel. I'm trying my best but you won't let me use that technique." Rey was upset and started to raise his voice out of frustration. "If you rely solely on the technique, then you'll never improve your own abilities. Techniques enhance your abilities to some degree but that doesn't matter if your natural abilities are lacking!"

"Whatever, I'm done for today." Rey got up and walked away from Amiel. He knew that he was right but he didn't like to hear it. His abilities are lacking, he's nothing special. He isn't super strong or super fast. He isn't super smart or good at politics. He's just...average.

Rey took out his dagger suddenly and turned around whilst moving to his right. He held the dagger up and struck something coming at him with high velocity. When he saw what it was he was worried. "An arrow?" It hit Rey hard, arrows are usually used to kill from a distance without getting caught. A relatively common way that assassins get rid of their targets. But why would Rey be a target, and who would target him?"

Rey ducked just as a arrow was about to hit him. Instead if receiving the full blow, he was just grazed by it, but it was enough to draw blood. The force of the arrow knocked Rey backwards. It was quite clear he was dealing with a cultivator. No normal human could have that much power in a single arrow. Rey got up as fast as he could and started running. Luckily this was the area where he found the energy source so he knew his way around. He found a spot where he could hide and hopefully wait out the pursuer.

Rey was grabbed from behind and before he could scream his mouth was covered by a hand. "Shhh, it's just me" Amiel said. Letting Rey go he looked around the corner. "Tell me what you know so far." He asked Rey. "Not much but whoever they are, they're a cultivator. Even though an arrow just grazed me it was enough to send me flying backwards." Rey replied with a grimace as his wound was starting to cause him pain. "Pretty sure it's an assassin!"

"Good job, that should be enough. A cultivator with a bow is very dangerous. Although if it was an assassin you'd already be dead. They would've had poison tipped arrows at least. That and they wouldn't have let up long enough for you to run." Amiel smiled, "I think I know where and who they are!" He said as he jumped to the top of the building where Rey could no longer see him. 'He knows who they are?' Rey thought to himself.
