It's the beginning of my freshman year, my name is Kayla. My father is a overworked business man and my mother passed away when I was born. I burden myself for my mom's death but I've come to accept that it wasn't my fault.

I wandered to find my homeroom in the loud and crowded hallway, there was a group of older guys standing by my locker

"Can I get to my locker please?"

The guy who was leaning on it chuckled and moved

"Whatever princess."

I mumbled under my breathe

"I already don't like you."

He stood over me

"Aren't you a freshman Princess?"

I stepped back fearing the look in his hazel eyes

"What's it to you?"

He bit his lip and looked at his friend

"She's the one he told us about."

I shut my locker slowly avoiding to shut his hand in it

"Look I'm not anyone so please direct me to Room 205."

He patted my shoulder hard and chuckled

"You'll find it Princess."

I got angry

"I'm not Princ..."

Before I could finish they were gone.

My first day and I've already made enemies; I exhaled and asked a teacher where the class was at. I sat down in the empty classroom until I caught sight of my childhood friend, Devon.

He came over and took a seat next to me

"What's up?"

I laughed

"I assumed you were going to walk me to school so I wouldn't get lost?"

He sighed

"My old man needed to talk to me before school. I'm sorry Kay."

I smirked

"Thanks a lot, had to ask those jerks where the stupid class was."

He chuckled

"You're fine, you made it in one piece."

Devon's father is my dad's partner in their company and they're both extremely busy for us.

I headed to my locker after class and unexpectedly was pushed into the sophomore who reeked of cigarettes and weed

"Watch it Princess."

I picked up my notebooks from the filthy floor

"I'm not a freaking princess and I'm this close to freaking punching you in your stupid face."

He walked away smirking saying nothing else. I went to all of my other classes, then finally came lunch, I was walking alone in the crowded cafeteria, looking around for Devon but I couldn't see him. Being a freshman and having everyone staring at you while they whisper it was the worst feeling and I wanted to run out of there until I ran into him again.

As he walked past me with a sly smirk on his face, he purposely dumped his tray of Ravioli on my white tank top, I grew angry

"Are you freaking kidding me? You clearly f*cking saw me!"

He grinned and carried on with his day; I made an effort to clean my shirt up as much as possible. I sat down by myself in the back of the lunchroom away from everyone, embarrassed and ate. After school, I stood outside in front of the school waiting for my dad, who is always late to pick me up.

The group of sophomore guys walked up, smoking cigarettes and laughing

"Hey Princess, waiting on your loser daddy to pick you up in his royal carriage."

I got pissed off

"You don't even know my dad or me so stop with your stupid royalty jokes."

They puffed their cigarettes and laughed, I stood embarrassed and flustered. One of them pointed out the red stain, I made an effort to cover it up with my jacket

"Got something on your shirt."

I zipped up my jacket

"Did you fail to remember that was because of you or do you suffer from short term memory loss too?"

Eventually I had enough of it and started walking home in the cold even if my dad demanded I didn't. I laid down under my grey blanket and began to cry, first day of high school and it was shit, eventually I fell asleep. When I woke up, it was late and I missed dinner. I went downstairs to grab a snack and ran into our housekeeper, Patricia.

She smiled

"Kayla you missed dinner, are you feeling well?"

I smiled

"I'm fine Patricia, is my dad home?"

She frowned

"I'm sorry sweetie, but no he had some business to attend to."

My father was regularly gone at work, he let Devon stay over some nights to keep me company but I assumed he was tied up with his dad.

Patricia asked

"Would you like anything to eat?"

I politely smiled

"I'm fine, is Devon around?"

She replied

"I think he's working with your dad today; do you need him?"

I shook my head

"No I just hoped he'd be here like usual."

She smiled as she walked out of the kitchen

"Call for me if you need something."

She walked away into the living room, I grabbed some lettuce from the fridge and began to make a salad when I heard a rock hit the kitchen window, I looked out the back door; Devon jumped in front of me giving me a heart attack.

I held my hand over my chest trying to breathe, I hit his shoulder

"What is wrong with you!"

He chuckled

"Just wanted to tell you goodnight dork but I saw you singing and making a salad so thought I'd throw you off guard."

I faked a laugh and pushed him out the sliding door

"I'm eating and going to bed so go home dork."

He gave me a hug and kissed my head

"Stay safe. Goodnight."

I pushed him away and joked

"Don't let my dad see that, he'll kill you."

He smirked and bit his bottom lip

"I don't think he'll have much problem with that."

I pushed him out the door

"Go! I'm tired!"

I shut the glass door and shook my head, I mumbled under my breath

"My dad would totally be against it."

I closed the door and continued making my food. I threw the salad in a bowl and ran up to my room.
