"Now everyone, the first match will be the M1 Warlord Mech of Gerard versus the Brawler Lizardmen Series of Isaak!"
The announcer's voice rang. Following that, without wasting more time, he gave the signal.
—FIGHT!
The Warlord Mech of Gerard immediately launched a straight strike using its titanium blade.
—DIE!
Gerard screamed.
He wanted to immediately finish off this bastard who insulted not only him but the whole academy.
That aggressive attack from Gerard seemed unexpected by Isaak because everyone saw Isaak back away and obviously didn't know what to do. His arms were spread out, showing a very open defense.
"It looks like he's just all talk," Vaan commented.
But to his surprise, Isaak's step back yielded a good result as the Warlord Mech's titanium blade missed by a few centimeters.
But Gerard didn't seem worried that he missed. Even if the first attack didn't hit, that didn't cause Gerard to lose his desire to punish the opponent.
He followed up immediately by charging forward and unleashing a series of quick thrusts. His experience in piloting was not a joke. Ordinary pilots would have a hard time executing such quick follow-ups, but that was not an issue for Gerard.
His opponent's defense was still wide open.
—Heh!
Gerard snorted.
"Take this!" He leaped and launched a direct attack.
Looking at the M1 Warlord Mech taking the momentum of the battle, everyone pumped their fist in the air. It looked like Isaak could do nothing at Gerard's aggressiveness.
"Coward my ass! That guy could do nothing but evade!" Shouted one of the students.
"Haha! I told ya! He was just all talk!" Said another one.
"I initially thought there was something special about him. But now I realized he's just a psycho!"
—Hahaha!
Many of the onlookers laughed at Isaak. It was their revenge after he insulted the whole academy earlier.
"Go, Gerard! Beat him into a pulp!"
"Fight! Senior Gerald! Fight!"
—Fight! Fight
Everyone cheered enthusiastically.
In Scarlet's group, they were talking about how rough Gerard's piloting skill was. But still, he looked better than his opponent, who could only defend himself.
"Honestly, I expected a good performance from that foreigner. But looking at him now, I did not expect him to be just an ordinary pilot, haha," Vaan laughed wryly, shaking his head.
Although he laughed, it could be seen that his face was disappointed by the performance shown by Isaak.
"Senior Gerard is really good. Even though he was not counted among the Elite, you can see his experience in maneuvering the mech in how he maneuvers the M1 Warlord," said Agnes.
"Exactly. It is just so regrettable that his mana score was not enough for him to enter the elite rank," Sherry followed up.
It looked like the girls had a good impression of Gerard's piloting skill but the boys were not quite impressed. For them, Gerard's piloting skills were just ordinary. Probably, just a little above his peers.
"Putting Senior Gerard aside, if I was the enemy, I wouldn't have bragged earlier. Now he looks like an asshole. Haha!" Dereck said and laughed.
"That's what happens if your arrogance comes out first before your skills. Hehe," Vaan chuckled.
Dereck opened his mouth again. "And that's what you get if you don't even know who your opponent is. Although Senior Gerard wasn't as good as the elites, he was one of the core members of the Mech Soldier Department." He and Vaan already looked disinterested in the match, especially because Gerard's opponent could only evade and step back.
The fact that Isaak could not return a single attack indicates that he was just all-talks and without the talent to back it up.
Of the group, only Scarlet was silent. It could be seen that her eyes look serious. She looked very focused. It seemed like she noticed something that the others weren't aware of.
"What do you think of this match, Scarlet?" Sherry suddenly threw the question at her when she noticed her silence.
Even hearing that, Scarlet didn't spare a glance. But she opened her mouth and said her reply. "It was still too early to judge the match, I think."
Knowing Scarlet, they knew that she was the type of person who would not jump to conclusions right off the bat no matter how obvious the outcome was.
Well, even Sherry herself agreed with Scarlet, that it was still too early to judge the match. In fact, in their group, only these two guys were very passive about the outcome.
Vaan and Dereck just grinned at Scarlet's reply.
Well, they could not say that Scarlet was wrong, but looking at the fight it was clear that—
ARRGGHH!!
They suddenly heard a scream that stopped all their thoughts at once. They returned their focus to the match and saw the M1 Warlord Mech slumped on the ground. The titanium blade disappeared from its hand. It was now on the ground a few yards away from it.
"What happened?" Dereck was puzzled.
"The Brawler Mech caught the Warlord Mech's arm and twisted it. Then performed a throwing technique," Scarlet answered.
"He got lucky," Vaan sighed.
"No," Scarlet shook her head. "I don't think it's luck. Isaak is definitely a skilled one," Scarlet stated.
Looking at her serious face, they could not find a word to rebut.
—Ohh no!
Someone suddenly screamed.
Gerard, Vaan, and the others returned their gaze to the battle. They saw Gerard trying to get up.
"Get up! Senior Gerard!" An onlooker shouted.
"Gerard! What are you doing?! Get up!"
"Dammit!" Inside the cockpit, Gerard clenched his teeth. He did not expect that move from the enemy. It was so sudden and took him by surprise. No, it was his fault. He let his guard down and was surprised when the opponent suddenly decided to engage!
Seeing the Warlord Mech back on its feet again, the onlookers felt relieved.
"Oi oi! Is that all you've got?" Gerard heard Isaak's mocking words.
"Basssstaaarrrddd!!!" Gerard produced a guttural yell. It looked like he was angrier now.
Without even picking up his Titanium Blade, Gerard attacked in haste and unleashed consecutive blows.
—OHHHH!
"You can do it, Gerard!"
"Right! Punch him!"
"Make him beg!"
Everyone started cheering again.
However, Scarlet and the others noticed that not even once did Gerard's attacks land.
Although Gerard's attacks were good, they noticed that he lacked speed. The Warlord Mech could not keep up with the Lizardman Mech.
Because none of Gerard's attacks were able to land, Isaak easily beat him using some throws. The Lizardman Mech was very strong. The battle wasn't even a match. It was more like an adult teaching a kid how to fight.
Everyone fell silent when the M1 Warlord fell on the ground once again. Gerard's agonizing scream echoed in their ears. The arena became so solemn as though everyone lost their spirits suddenly.
Even though the M1 Warlord Mech could not stand anymore, the Brawler Lizardman Mech did not stop beating it.
"Damn that guy is so cruel," someone muttered.
Everyone wondered why Isaak had to be so brutal. But Isaak just walked away after another mocking remark to everyone.
"Is that all you've got? Pwe!" He walked back with a satisfied smile after that.
The match didn't take long and ended without Gerard scoring a single point. There wasn't even a single scratch on the Lizardman Mech. Moreover, they needed to call a medical team because of the grave injury that Gerard suffered.
Commander Guren looked at the retreating figure of the Lizardman Mech. He had to admit that specs played a big role in this match.
"The M1 Warlord's movements weren't on par with that Brawler Lizardman," said his colleague.
"Yeah."
Anyway, it could also be seen that Gerard's skills were also inferior to his opponent's. So even if they fought using Mechs with the same specs, Gerard's winning rate was still very slim. He didn't even know how to control his anger. Isaak obviously did it on purpose to distract his opponent.
—Sigh!
Guren sighed inwardly.
Aleks greeted Isaak with a satisfied grin.
"How's that?" Isaak asked Aleks.
"A very fascinating performance…" the two high-fived.
In the VIP podium, Merchant Bernard snickered before he glanced at the person on the opposite side.
"Well, Headmaster, as you can see. The disparity in specs is very obvious. I didn't say your Warlord Series is bad. But, it is very outdated," bluntly said Merchant Bernard.
