Lovesick

The bell rang and the short break was over. The next subject teacher came in. I had a dull face, i wasn't really angry with what the seniors did or what the new boy will think of me, I was just moody and I wanted to be left alone. It was English class, I just sat like a statue with a historical background of a tragic ending, anyone who saw me at that moment would think I was dead even though my eyes were open. I just thanked God the teacher wasn't paying attention to any of us, she came to mark her presence and left before the bell rang. Before the sound of the bell she just announced she was leaving and zoomed out of the class.

 "Is she okay?" Simi asked. I thought she was talking about the teacher but I had no idea she was inquiring about me.

 "Are you okay?" simi asked again, tapping my shoulders. "Hilda, Hilda!"

 "Oh,yes, I'm having a bad headache"

 "Are you sure?"

 "Yes I'm sure, I'm fine, I just wanna sleep"

 "Fine, let me take you to the sick bay and you'll take some painkillers"

 "No, don't bother"

 "We are going to the sick bay whether you like it or not" she stood up and held my hand. I had no other option but to go with her but then the bell rang for break time. Everybody rushed out of their classes.

 "Hey watch how you walk!" Simi yelled at a boy who was running, he almost hit me but i didn't care, i felt as if I was falling sick.

 We reached the sick bay and I lay down on the bed. Simi touched my forehead and figured I was running a temperature. She began to panic "You're burning up, I'll go and get the school nurse". She came back with the nurse, she examined me and said I was having high fever. She left the bay to go get something but when she came back i saw her holding a syringe and a cotton wool.

 "No, not injections,I hate injections" I was screaming in my head. I close my eyes as she cleaned a part on my wrist, aimed for my vein and inserted the syringe and when she pulled it out slowly I started feeling dizzy. I went to sleep.

 It was brighter than the sickbay as I opened my eyes and my sight adjusted to the contrast of the room and I figured I was in my room, but how? My mom came in smiling.

 "How are you feeling now sweetie?" she said patting my forehead.

 "I'm fine now, but how did I get here?"

 "The principal called and I came to pick you up. Seems like the shot the nurse gave you made you feel better" Temi and Rotimi helped get you in the car.

 "What about Simi? She was so worried 

 "She came over after school but you were still asleep, she left for a while, she'll he coming back later"

 "Okay mom" 

 "The nurse prescribed some drugs for you, said you have fever and malaria"

 "Oh, no wonder my mouth tastes bitter"

 "Yes, so you won't be going to school tomorrow"

 "Why? I'm fine now, i can go"

My mom raised an eyebrow "You? Its like that fever hit you hard. The Hilda I know wants to go school even if she's sick? Wow who's that angel that touched your heart?

 Its the new boy mom, I want to see him everyday and every time, I don't want to miss any single opportunity to see him.

She noticed I was lost somewhere although I was looking at her. "Hello! Anybody home?

" I want to sleep now mom but you're keeping me awake" I said trying to distract her from her question.

 "Oh, sorry madam, I'll leave now" she said as she stood up, smiled at me and exited my room.

 A smile curved up on my face as I recalled the scene of how Rotimi and Temi were fighting over me. What made me happier was the fact that the new boy was watching them as they did that

 "But wait, no. What would he think of me? An all boy's girl? Oh no! He'll think I'm cheap and easy to get. Or no maybe he'll be a little bit jealous" then I paused

 "What is wrong with meeee? We don't know each other so why would he feel that way?

I snapped out of my thoughts and picked my phone. I checked the time and it was 5:49pm!! "I slept for that long?" 6 long hours from our break time that began by 11:30pm. Am I sure that nurse is not that gave me a concoction that will make me sleep deeply while she stole all my glory and fruitful future?"

I squinted my eyes and unlocked my phone and sent a text to Simi.

 Before Simi stepped out of the house as she intended to go back to Hilda's place, her phone vibrated and and she saw Hilda's text notification. She didn't mind to read it but put her phone back In her pocket and headed to Hilda's house with Lekan, Nina, Aaron,Comfort and Lola.

 Hilda rest her head on her pillow as she dropped her phone after texting Simi.

 "Did he cast a spell on me?" She was just shocked and surprised at her behavior any time she sees the new guy.

 "Oh Alexander, such a beautiful name for a beautiful boy. Hilda tried to stop thinking about him but her efforts were in vain. Before she began to day dream again her friends showed up at her door, it seemed as if they have been there for a while.

 "What's wrong with you?" simi asked with folded arms"

 "Yeah, I noticed she's been acting weird since after assembly today" Comfort contributed

 "Are you pregnant?" Nina asked. I thought it was a joke but she didn't even flinch . She was giving me a stern look. I was waiting for them to start laughing but they were all staring at me intensely.

 "Guys no, eww, no, you know me well" I said and sat up to show them i was really serious. "You really think that's possible? Have you ever seen me with a guy?"

 "Yeah duh, like every time" simi said

 "Well, its not my fault, I'm surrounded by them in school and at home. Besides who would you suspect?"i asked raising an eyebrow.

 "Rotimi. He has been all over you these days"

 "But i was not all over him, right?"

 "You know that..."

 "Please guys, this argument is pointless, I'm not pregnant and I never will be in my school years, okay?". I had to cut her off cause this argument was going somewhere I never want to go.

 "Fine, we'll let you off the hook this time" Lekan said.

 " I was never supposed to be on that hook" I said and sighed. "Are you guys here to give me peace of mind or trouble my mind? Gosh!"
