Chapter 138: Utter Madness II

...........

Utter madness, the battle was, leaving the Strangers as well as the uninvited guest speechless, horrified even, some loaded with admiration like Laffitte, naturally.

No, even utter madness couldn't properly describe it, not when it went on for days, seven days and nights without a moment of rest.

And it wasn't as if the battle became less brutal with time, it was quite the opposite actually, blood and Ink painting the sea beneath them.

Kaido's roars and Yovan's barely audible groans were the faintest sounds in the surroundings, left far behind by the collisions of rage and destruction, seeking nothing but to eradicate the enemy.

But if something was clear to the Strangers, it was that Yovan was severely outmatched.

Viola could especially see it with her powers, allowing her to see his broken bones... No, there was just dust instead of bones, taking their place was Ink.

None of the Strangers could close an eye, not with the horror taking place right before their eyes, a reality Stranger than imagination.

Viola wondered time and time again how Yovan is even alive, and how is he moving. Why does he seem so alive in the god-forsaken barbaric battle?

Why is his laughter so maddening yet so genuine at the same time? Most importantly, why is he laughing? Why is her heart beating so fast like she was witnessing greatness like none other?

Kaido couldn't laugh. No, he was getting madder by the second, finding it nearly impossible to keep his focus.

He loves battle, just not this kind of battle. He loves bloodshed, but not this kind, not when he's the one wondering how the fuck is the monster before him still alive.

Others are supposed to wonder that about him. Kaido is the strongest creature in the world, the beast that can not die.

Indeed, his durability has given Kaidou the reputation of being unable to die.

He was caught and tortured 18 times by organizations as powerful as the Marines.

Other Emperors have attempted to execute him 40 times, only to fail as Kaidou survived every single attempt because every execution weapon broke when used on him.

In fact, it has even become a hobby for him to attempt suicide, only for it to fail... He firmly believes himself to be unrivaled in the world in this regard, but, "Die!!! DiE!!! DDIEI!!!! DIEE!!! Die!! Die die! just die!"

His screams fell on deaf ears because Yovan's hearing had long since failed him, his eardrums destroyed just from the sound waves of their collisions.

So he couldn't hear Kaido's slowly dying out screams of rage, his focus was solely on venting, and he was focused, as calm as one can possibly be.

Yet, his only opened eye was out of focus because he wasn't using it to see, not at all. His observation Haki was the only thing allowing him to see with clarity despite his foggy mind.

[Willpower: 4999/∞]

While some were speechless or horrified, Kalifa was worried, stressed, and uncomfortable, biting on her nails for the entirety of the seven days while watching the battle without blinking once.

And finally, she spoke, "Laffitte, use your songs to distort Kaido's observation Haki if he came close.

Viola, keep eye on the surrounding, and especially on Kaido's actions when we dive under.

Kaku, be ready to slash away the ice if Kaido were to turn the sea frozen, and Bege, help if necessary."

Kalifa's words were heard and processed in an instant. The Strangers had been just watching, complying with Yovan's order to keep away. That and the fact that they'll only hold him back if they joined.

And they're still complying with his order, Kalifa just understood Yovan more than the rest, so she spread her hands, manifesting an enormous bubble that went on to surround the entire ship.

Under her control, the bubble filtered out all of the water within before diving under the sea, starting to go deeper and deeper.

As if they share one mind, Yovan far away blinked, his eye regaining clarity as he murmured, "Thank you for being a good target dummy,"

"Don't you Dare!!!!!!!!!!" Kaido saw the future but couldn't do anything about it, not when Yovan can simply scatter and appear on Seizon No Hono in an instant, deep beneath the surface.

Kaido switched into his beast form again, raining upon the sea a hazard of lightning bolts and a tsunami of fire, and even freezing the sea before bringing down hails of wing slashes.

Kaido's Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit is almost unrivaled in the entire world, granting him the ability to control the elements but also granting him a weakness to the sea.

So he couldn't do much but evaporate or freeze the sea to follow after them, but the songs of Sirens sung by Laffitte traveled the sea to reach Kaido, obscuring his Observation Haki just a little bit.

Viola observed Kaido's actions and informed Kalifa, allowing the latter to control the ship to move elsewhere.

In the end, Seizon No Hono ended up slipping away because while Yovan could certainly hold on for a while longer, he still needed some energy to counter Kaido if the latter was able to follow after them.

So the world had to suffer Kaido's redirected anger, and his crew especially would have to suffer a lot, just not as much as Yovan did.

"Hm? What?" Yovan asked as he found himself right in the middle of the ship with all of the Strangers staring at him.

"What? Aghhh, I wanna slap you," Kalifa muttered as she shook her head, walking up to him before creating a small rainbow bubble, "This should help with the pain."

"Pain?" Yovan almost wanted to chuckle as he eyed his state, a state that couldn't be seen by anyone other than Viola, and the latter naturally informed Kalifa.

His body was hidden well with Ink, the condensation of his Armament Haki, will to live and survive. The Ink was working on keeping him alive, acting as veins his blood can pass through.

It acted by his instinct to survive to keep his body functioning, and able to heal, but that still isn't enough.

"Here," Kalifa said as she cut her own wrist, allowing her blood to fall on Enyo, the blade in his hand.

"Here," Laffitte did the same without any question, and so did the remaining Strangers, feeding the blade to the brim, and allowing it to do what it dearly wants to, to heal its master.

Emerald flames burst out of the blade in the shape of snakes, swimming into Yovan's body, going through the Ink to feed him the life force he dearly needs, setting him ablaze in the gentlest flames in the world.

"Thank you," Yovan murmured as he glanced at the uninvited guest, none other than Nico Robin. How did she get here? He didn't ask, not yet, he merely lost himself in thought.

'I was still unable to awaken it, not yet... I'll have to visit Kaido again in a month or two... No, a week,' Yovan of course didn't fight Kaido the first time just out of desire for battle.

His purpose was always to learn and improve, but his greatest purpose was to awaken future vision, something he dearly needs for the future, and the Everless project can only be completed with it.

'Shanks...' Yovan bit his finger as his expression turned a bit sour, "Give me the newspaper." He ordered, knowing that news of the Marineford war must've spread by now.

Kalifa handed him the newspaper, and looking through it seemed to have put his expression more at ease, 'The Whitebeard is dead... Ace is dead... Jozu is dead, half of the whitebeard's crew was wiped out.'

Yovan blinked, realizing that the Pantheon gods had acted on his behalf, those participating in the war at least, 'Whitebeard was brought down by the combined assault of Akainu, Blackbeard, and Dracule Mihawk.

Ace was... Ace was executed... The Whitebeard pirates and all of those that came to save him failed miserably... It was a one-sided war, but Luffy seemed to have escaped.

The Blackbeard was somehow able to acquire the powers of Gura Gura No Mi, Whitebeard's devil fruit, despite already having taken a devil fruit... Perfect.' Yovan mused, his mood taking a turn for the best.

So much happened, so much unimaginable news that shadowed Yovan's brutal battle with Kaido, something that also reached the news.

"Haha Haha Yahaha Yahahahahahahaha!" Yovan laughed, as usual, his wild happy mood returning to him, "Well, Strangers, it seems that war has ended, but it was never our war... Our war has yet to come."

Laffitte's eyes instantly widened, grinning from ear to ear. The prospect of war, death, and bloodshed is very appealing to him, and Yovan has just confirmed one to be coming.

The Strangers' reaction varied, but Robin, on the other hand, didn't like something he said, or rather, "Why are you laughing? Is the Marines' victory appealing to you? Or did you have anything to do with the war?"

She seemed to be in a rather bad mood, mostly at Yovan's happiness with how the war turned out... Luffy is, after all, her Captain, and Ace is his sworn brother.

"I laugh because I laugh, and I laugh when I want to laugh. I do what I do when I do what I do, and I do what I do because I want to do what I do... Problem?"

His Golden eye, staring at her with such intensity it reminded her of the horrifying event that just took place before her, and even her respect for her Captain or sadness for what happened couldn't dwindle her fear.
