Pearl

Pearl tossed and turned in bed, the strange feeling of unease still gnawing at her. She glanced at the clock, the numbers blinking in the darkness: 2:37 a.m. She sighed and reached for her phone on the nightstand, scrolling through her contacts until she found Alex's name.

"Alex, I'm sorry to bother you so late. I just wanted to let you know that you left your wallet at my place," she said when he picked up.

"Thanks, Pearl. I'll get it from you tomorrow," Alex replied, his voice groggy with sleep.

As she hung up the call, Pearl still couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She got out of bed and paced around her room, trying to figure out what was bothering her. She wondered if she should call Alex again, but decided against it, not wanting to disturb him.
