Training

The next day

Rick, Carla, and Leon stood on the training field. It turns out that this training field was rented by Lisa for three months. As the Vice Headmaster of the academy, she was granted some privileges.

There are multiple training fields within the academy so the students and the staffs didn't raise a fuss.

She frequently practices her destructive spells, causing damages to the nearby buildings, which was why she was granted a personal training field.

She was also known for being unreasonable, making students and teachers alike fear her all the same. Even the Headmaster of the academy wouldn't talk back to her, especially if she's not in the mood.

At this time, the trio are standing on the training field as they chat among themselves while waiting for Lisa's arrival. Yesterday, Lisa told them to come back to this training field early in the morning. With the impression that they got yesterday, they didn't dare to be late.

They guessed that the purpose is probably training of some sort.

An hour passed and Lisa still hadn't arrived.

"She's late." Carla said with a pout as he folded her arms.

"She just told us to come here early in the morning. As far as I can remember, she didn't say anything about meeting us here" Leon replied as he rubbed his chin.

"Could it be that she's observing us somewhere to judge our attitude on magic and training?" Carla said with a low voice as she looked around, trying to spot anything suspicious but she didn't spot any.

"If so, then I guess we should just train ourselves to give her a better impression that we're not lazy kids without initiative" Rick replied.

"That makes sense." Leon said with a nod.

"But what kind of training should we do?" Carla asked as she looked at Leon and Rick.

"Maybe be sparring with magic? We trained with spell mastery back in the village but we didn't really use them for combat. The only time we used magic in combat was against the magical beasts" Leon said with a little bit of hesitation in his eyes.

"Sparring is good but I think we should emphasize the strategy, timing, and level of spells in combat. Your battle styles were just standing while casting random spells and seeing who did it better" Rick said as he looked at the two.

"I think I get what you mean." Leon said as he rubbed his chin.

"Hmmmm you two can spar. I will just train with my reaction time myself" Rick said as he distanced himself from the other two.

The two started their sparring session as they exchanged spells while Rick stood on the corner of the training field.

'Flying Thunder God plays a huge role on why Minato was called the Yellow Flash but I wonder, how was his speed without it?' Rick thought to himself.

The moment he learned that he had a high affinity for spatial magic and that teleportation wasn't a good spell for combat, he knew that Namikaze Minato's fighting style is what he will strive to master.

Naturally, he would only incorporate Minato's battle style to his own battle style. After all, this world is vastly different from the naruto world with chakras and jutsus.

'Reaction speed, I gotta get used to scenery transitions and be able to react fast with accurate judgment.' Rick inwardly said as he held three knives with a strange symbol for each hand.

This time, he didn't use balls of crumpled papers. He only used them for safety and training. Now, he's going to use a knife for the real deal.

Balls of crumpled papers could also work but they can easily be blown out. Knives are far more versatile and useful since it's faster and not as easy to deflect. Furthermore, it can be used to go for the kill and depending on the situation, it can serve as distraction for his real attack.

Now that he has gotten used to catching the crumpled papers during scene transitions, he will now try it out with real knives.

Rick threw one knife on the ground below him.

Rick imagined that there's an enemy in front of him. He then threw the knife in the direction of his imaginary enemy. The imaginary enemy dodged the knife by tilting his head to the right.

When the knife passed by the imaginary enemy, Rick suddenly teleported behind it and instantly caught the knife with his left hand while his right hand slit its nape.

'Faster, I gotta do it faster' Rick thought to himself as he grit his teeth.

After a few hours of training, Leon and Carla lay on the ground in exhaustion while Rick panted for breath but he held his ground while gritting his teeth.

Suddenly, they heard the sound of footsteps. They looked around and saw Lisa's figure with the corners of her eyes widened.

"Oh.. Well.. I forgot about you guys" Lisa said with a laugh as she scratched the back of her head.

'She's so unreliable!' the trio inwardly complained.

"But I can see that you guys were actually training. That's good, that's good" Lisa said with an approving nod as she gave them a thumbs up.

"Alright, I'll give you an hour of rest and you'll show me the results of your training." Lisa added.

An hour later, the trio stood as they faced off against Lisa in front of them.

"[Fireball]"

"[Wind Gust]"

"[Water Blades]"

The trio started the battle as a ball of fire, a gust of wind, and sharp-edged water were sent towards Lisa's direction.

The corners of Lisa's lips curled up to a wide smile as she raised her arms and said "Alright, that's the spirit!"

"[Black Tornado]"

A huge dark tornado with a strong suction force was brewed just right behind the trio.

"SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUUU-"

"WHAT AN UNRELIABLE-"

"I'M JUST A POOR BOY FROM A POOR FAMILY-"

The trio screamed as they were sucked inside the tornado. Even Rick with [Phantom Rush] couldn't escape from it since his knives were also sucked.

"Ooops. I may have overdone it a little bit" Lisa said as she scratched the back of her head in embarrassment.
