Billy blinked and looked straight at Catalina. The cottage guards had reported that several times they saw the appearance of a large animal in the middle of the sea. At first, Billy thought it was just a big fish or other sea animal. Catalina’s confession seemed to prove that it was a monster.
Catalina just recognized herself as a mermaid. Billy didn’t want to scare her. After all, it may be just Catalina’s hallucination. If what she met was a monster, Catalina would never come back to him.
“Catlin, I’m sorry I neglected to take care of you,” Billy said softly.
He sat down next to Catalina and held her hand. Catalina’s face was pale with fatigue and worry. Billy understood. What she had just experienced must have taken her by surprise.
“You are my luna. The survival of the werewolves is in your hands. More than that, I love you. I will always protect you as much as I can.”
