I'm The Protagonist?! 16

The small grandma rounded the corner and went to the reception desk arranging some papers before smiling at her.

“May I have your name little miss and how long are you and your guardian staying in this old sleepy town?” She asked assuming that someone must be with her because she is a minor.

“Just for tonight Grandma Ling and I am alone as I have told, I’m simply here for a small research then I will immediately be heading back after unfortunately” Feng Shi replied politely, her façade turning back into that sweet innocent high school girl.

“Is that not to dangerous? Honestly! What where your guardian thinking letting you come to this far trip alone?” The old woman erupted in rage at such a blatant disregard for danger.

‘Probably hoping that I die’ She thought to herself.

“Oh, don’t worry about that Grandma Ling. I can defend myself perfectly well. May I have my room key though? The journey here did tire me out” Feng Shi requested hiding her impatient but not wanting to be rude to the kind old lady.

“Oh dear, of course, of course. Here you go deary, room 3. Now, come along” Grandma Ling took out a small key from the drawer with a number 3 in it as she gave her some papers to sign first before leading her.

“The hot spring is just over that corridor but if you turn left, you will immediately reach the restroom” said corridor only have two doors. One straight a head covered by a red embroidered curtain while the one she assumed to be a restroom was beside it covered by a plain wooden door.

“See that door over there?” The door I question was beside the stairs on their left.” That leads to the kitchen. Dinner is added on the cost of boarding. It will be served at 7 so be sure to be down or back by then.”

Feng Shi silently followed Grandma Ling as they toured the small inn. The building only has two floors. The second have four bedrooms and a lounge while on the first floor were two bedrooms on the left wing along with the kitchen, then on the back is a door leading to the backyard where the hot spring is located and beside it is the rest room. On the right wing is where the bedroom of the owner is. Then of course the reception area. The entire building was mostly made up of woods decorated with antique vases and landscape paintings.

Once she settled down her things, Feng Shi immediately fell on the bed really tired opting to nap for a bit before heading down for dinner.

The tranquil little town was beautiful at night. The stars were perfectly viewed in the ground like a sea of stars. It actually reminds her of her home.

A splash reverberated as thin smoke rose from the hot spring.

Feng Shi was currently sitting in the water, a wine nearby as she glanced up.

For some reason, the stars always remind her of the concept of home. As if she herself belong amongst them.

Closing her eyes, she let the cold liquor slowly go down her throat, twirling the wine glass before gazing up again.

Perhaps, it’s because the place doesn’t have that much tourist spots or landmarks so the business is slow, but Feng Shi actually can tell that if this is developed farther, it would get a little bit more attention at least.

Aside from the old Chinese house behind her, the little hot spring is average in size but the rock formation on one side, as if a small hill with a waterfall and on the three corners of the wall are lively green plants reminding her of being in the woods.

To be surrounded by nature while covered by the blanket of stars above, her lips quirk upwards a little.

She enjoys the excitement and thrill of a good hunt during her missions, but it was little times like this where she can let go and relax, that makes her cherish every moment.

She stayed in the hot spring for a while, letting her entire body relax.

A soft sigh left her lips as she leaned on the side, shoulders and back slouched and her head tilted to the sky.

Like a salted fish, her entire weight lightened up.

The night was tranquil with the gentle breeze, crickets singing and the flow of the water. It was enough to almost lull her to sleep. That is, until a pleasant surprise was drop on her from the sky, literally.

Feng Shi was startled when something heavy fell on her lap with a giant splash.

She hastily wiped the water from her face before glaring at the giant bundle of wet fur in her lap.

Said bundle was flailing in the shallow water, coughing, and whizzing the water that entered his mouth and nose in the midst of his dramatic screams. “Help! Help! I’m drowning! Ah! Call the police! Get the fire department! Summon life water mage! This treasure is going to drown to death before meeting his master!”

Her eyes widened at first in pleasant surprise with a spark of joy before her expression turned calm but if you look closely, you can see a side of her lips twitching while an expression of exasperation could be seen if you know her well.

How come this little companion of hers seemed to have lost a few remaining braincells while they were apart?

Unable to look anymore, Feng Shi grabbed the wolf pup by the nape to pull his entire body up in the air and away from the, glancing at the water that could barely reach his head even if he stands in four of his legs, apparently drowning water.

Said fur ball immediately breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief. “Whew, this great one almost died for a moment” he exclaimed before pausing for a moment as he looked at who exactly was holding him. “Master! This baby missed you so much! Did you miss me! Look! Look! I am stronger now, Hehe! I can’t wait for those meanies to come and line up to get beaten by this mighty and magnificent, I, the great king, Xiao Wang!” A certain wondering wolf proudly proclaimed upon leaping into her cold embrace.

She wanted to comment about his self-praising considering what happened a few moments ago wherein, said mighty and magnificent king was screaming about his very own death. However, she refrained seeing the proud and beaming expression from him.

Forget it, even if her friend lost all his remaining brain cells, she could still look after him.

Instead, she petted him gently while gazing despite her expression becoming void again. She listened as he chatted about his adventure while looking at him for injuries.

Xiao Wang, in their time apart, travelled to many doomed worlds and fought the most vicious yet strongest beings those dead realms had to offer. Despite how small their time apart was for her, for Xiao Wang, time stretched longer. Seconds to her could have been years to him. He tried to make it sound simply exciting and fascinating while downplaying the danger, but Feng Shi is aware of how much hardship he must have overcome. After all, strength and power does not come easy.

Seeing as he didn’t seem injured and is also still very energetic, she let go of her worries. The only thing that seems to have changed aside from his IQ was that he had somehow become rounder. “En, Xiao Wang is the best” She praised softly hugging her long lost companion simply glad to have him back.
