An ambulance had taken Joe and me to the local hospital. We both suffered cuts and bruises. Joe had to get stitches on the side of his head. Other than that, we were lucky it wasn't anything significant. I had a ton of tiny cuts on my back from the windshield. Other than that, I was fortunate to be alive.
LeAnn and Freddie arrive ten minutes after Joe gets the stitches on his head and shoulder. Fear and panic on their faces.
Freddie tells me Ryder is an hour out. He had hung up on Freddie when he was told what had happened to us.
"So the cops didn't say what the cause of the explosion was?" Freddie asks, rubbing Joe's arm.
We are both in the same room, but different beds.
"No, not yet," Joe says. "They did take our statements before the ambulance brought us here. I mean, it was a huge explosion! I honestly thought we were going to die."
I shake my head as the memory of us getting launched into the air plays back.
