"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only deceiving your own selves".
- James 1 : 22.
The cathedral.
Few hours later.
"Assholes. I thought nuns were nice. SISTER ACT was a sham", Erica gritted her teeth.
"Erica, language!", Mrs Martindale was embarrassed as people watched them.
Erica bowed her head, "Sorry, God, Jesus and the angels but service is over. Its my turn to take over from here".
"Don't speak to God that way. Do you want to incure his wrath?", sister Joan enters.
Erica frowned, "I asked to see my sister, Josie. She's a disciple but you refused. All I can do is to make a scene till she comes out".
The nun disperse the gathering crowd, "Service is over. Please come tomorrow for our bible study".
A feminine voice asked, "What do you think you're doing, Erica?".
"Hold up. You aren't glad to see me and mom?", Erica was shocked.
"I am but not like this. I'm disappointed", said Josie.
"So am I", Mrs Martindale looks at Josie, "I didn't raise you to be like this. You never called nor wrote letters. You did nothing to check on us".
"I was busy", Josie bit her lip. It hurt her to see her mother sad like this but Meshach was watching. She couldn't go against the cathedral's conduct.
"Busy? Too busy to send a message? Its easy. Just type and send", Erica countered.
"You don't want to see us, do you?", Mrs Martindale gasped.
Erica turns to Josie, "What? Is it true?".
Josie was silent. It wasn't true. She wanted to see them, hug them, talk to them but she couldn't.
"Answer me", she grabbed Josie's cloak, "Tell me it's not true".
"I'm sorry but you're a distraction. Both of you", Josie voiced out.
"I knew it. I know this place was up to no good. They've brainwashed you. Is it the priest or your fellow disciples", Erica yelled.
"Erica, enough!", Mrs Martindale pants, "Its her decision".
Erica ran to her mother's side, "Mom, are you okay?".
"I'm fine", Mrs Martindale exhales softly.
"I'm sorry. I'll call from now on but don't come here if you haven't repented. This is a holy place", Josie walked away.
Erica called after her, "You'll regret this. I swear to you".
Josie walked away. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she wiped them away.
"You okay?", asked Meshach.
"Yeah. I'm sorry", She apologized.
"Hey, are you crying?", he looked at her.
"I'm not", she looked at her hands.
"Is it your family?", he asked.
"They were here", she said silently.
"I know it hurts but Jesus said if anyone wants to follow him, they should leave whatever they have and follow him", Meshach sighs.
"I know", Josie was nervous.
"Besides, they wanted to stop you from coming here. All you can do is pray for them", He places his hand on his her shoulder.
Meanwhile, Erica drives her mom home. Mrs Martindale was awkwardly silent.
"I'm sorry, mom. I told you we wouldn't be turned away but we were", Erica put the car to a halt seeing the red traffic light.
"Its alright", Her mother broke the silent spell, "I expected it but never knew it would be like this".
"Yeah. Josie was cold", Erica puts her head on the steering.
"It would've been better if both of you had gotten married and told me off. Now, I'm sure I won't get to see it", Mrs Martindale cries.
The light turns green and Erica starts the car again, "You will see it, mom. I promise you".
