Encounter II

The three of us dropped down into the moonlit sea.

When the bubbles cleared, I could see that we were just beyond the shelf. The light filtering through the water gave this environment a strange, otherworldly feel.

I promptly surfaced and carefully looked around… good, no pursuers.

“So, this shelter,” Blake began. “The way they were talking, it’s definitely underwater.”

“Blegh… of course it is,” I moaned. “I seriously don’t want to comb the entire seabed for some fallen tower.”

“Maybe you should’ve asked how big it was,” Blake said.

“Someone approaching,” Angelina suddenly called.

“Huh?!” I followed her gaze – two deep gray dorsal fins had appeared, cutting through the rolling waters. They were definitely headed straight in our direction. “That’s bad, right? Stuff with dorsal fins tend to be mean, don’t they?”

“Sharks, killer whales, dolphins,” Blake listed.

“Dangerous predators, the lot of them,” I growled. “Well, nothing for it. Come on, Blake, cover my flank!”
