Chapter 14

The blood samples were examined by Dr. Newton and the technicians.

"Mr. Richards has no antibodies," Lisa lamented as she shook her head.

"Neither does Mr. Thomas Johnson," George said, looking up at them.

"What about the remaining two?" Dr. Newton inquired. After a few moments, Lisa raised her head and shook her head, saying, "Mr. Ken Brown has no antibodies." "Doctor, come look at this," George said a few moments later. The doctor took a step forward and examined the microscope.

"I need to make a call right now," he said. "We have a match."

"I hope we have found an antidote in time," Lisa and George thought.

Dr. Newton walked into her office and sat at her desk. She opened the drawer and took a small book from it. The doctor paged through the book until she found what she was looking for. She took up the phone and dialed a number.

After the fifth ring, a sleepy male voice said, "Hello."

"I apologize for waking you." "I'm Dr. Newton from County General," she introduced herself.

"What is the point of this?" Patrick inquired.

"We tested your blood and discovered that you are an antibody carrier,"

"So," he grumbled, "what about the others?"

"Sir, the others lack the antibodies that Mr. Hodges and the others require," the doctor explained. "We need you to come in so we can start working on the antidote,"

"Why should I care?" he asked before hanging up.

Dr. Newton rubbed her temples as she sat at her desk. She was clearly irritated.

"How can he be so cruel?" she grumbled. "He sounded like he didn't care about these poor souls," she grumbled.

"I guess I'll have to talk to his father," she said as she opened her book and found the phone number. It was late, so she left Ken a message.

Mr. Ken Brown,

I'm Dr. Evelyn Newton, and I'm calling about Mr. Hodges and the others who are sick. I talked to your son earlier today. Sir, he has the antibodies that are needed for a cure. The problem is that he doesn't seem to care about his ex or their infant son. In order for them and their friends to survive this, they need antibodies. The sooner we get this, the sooner we can save them. Please don't let these people think that your son doesn't care about anyone except himself.

Dr. Evelyn Newton

Tyree was awakened by the sound of beeps and whistles coming from the machines in room one, where he and Luca were. Luca let out a gasp, and then there was silence.

"I require assistance!" As soon as he opened the door, he yelled, "Something is wrong with my boyfriend!" Doctors, nurses, and a crash cart filled the room. Tyree was terrified by what was going on. Hot tears streamed down his cheeks as he watched everyone work tirelessly to restart Luca's heart Tyree wasn't sure how long he'd been holding his breath, but when the whistles stopped and a steady beeping could be heard, he let out a sigh.

Dr. Newton turned around and approached Tyree. Her blue eyes were filled with rage and concern.

"We need that antidote right now," she explained.

"But none of us have antibodies," he explained.

"His ex does," the doctor explained.

"Then what's stopping you?" Tyree exclaimed, his voice rising.

"He's refusing to help," she explained. "I've already spoken with him," the doctor explained. Tyree clenched his fists in anger.

"My boyfriend almost died and his ex is being unreasonable," Tyree snarled.

Tyree took his phone and headed outdoors. Being inside the hospital at that time wasn't a good idea given what he needed to say and wanted to say. He was indignant at both the circumstances and the person who had put them there. While waiting, Tyree called Ken's number.

"Hello," said Ken. Tyree tried his best to remain calm and added, "Mr. Brown, this is Tyree, Luca's boyfriend."

Is there a problem? Ken questioned.

Tyree asked, "First, have you spoken to your son?"

Why? "Ken asked. " Tyree continued," "Your kid is refusing to help, which is why Luca almost died." He added, "I was told by the doctor that Patrick had the antibodies but was refusing to help."

Before the line went dead, Tryree heard Ken say, "My son is going to pay for his actions." Tyree noticed the doctor when he entered the building and stepped up to her.

"I had a heart-to-heart talk with Patrick's father," he said.

"I hope that he does something to change his son's behavior because your boyfriend might not live through another cardiac arrest,"

"What about our friends and their daughter?" Tyree asked.

"They aren't as bad as Mr. Hodges, but antibodies are still needed," she said.

"Why is it affecting Luca differently?" Tyree asked.

"It might be because of his disabilities," she said. Tyree had forgotten that Luca had told him about his anxiety and high blood pressure.

Ken walked over to Patrick's residence, oblivious to the passing of time. He kicked up the stairs and pounded on the door.

Ken shouted, "Get your ass out of here now or I'm smashing down this door." Inside, there was swearing.

"What the fuck do you want at this time?" Patrick answered the door and questioned

Ken demanded angrily, "Tell me you didn't refuse to help Luca and others."

Patrick asked, "What if I did?" He declared, "He isn't mine anymore."

"I'm only going to say this once," Ken said. "Because of your jealousy, Luca had a cardiac arrest and almost died tonight," he warned. "Get your ass to the hospital or you won't have a pack to lead."

After getting dressed, Patrick went to his car. Ken was standing by the passenger door.

What do you believe you are doing? Patrick asked.

He said, "I'm going with you."

Don't you trust me? Patrick asked, while scowling at his dad.

"After what you did, I don't trust you to go alone," Ken stated as he climbed into the car while shaking his head. Patrick scowled at Ken before getting inside the vehicle. As they headed out of the driveway, Ken's phone rang. He responded by saying, "Hello,"

Tyree was crying on the other end. "We lost him." He said, "Tyson didn't make it." Ken could hear Luca sobbing for his deceased child in the background. Ken hung up the phone and turned to face Patrick. He inquired, "Are you content now?" "Your son died because of your ignorance," he said. The reality of his actions came crashing down. His son was dead at age 1 month old.
