Anna Prasan & Naam Karan

After every satisfactory sexual intercourse her belly grows more and more big and heavy. She looks more full than her previous pregnancy. No one would believe that she has entered her six months only. But she looks ravishing today in red kanjivaram saree and three quarter blouse with red rose and white lilies in her hairs. Today is a big day for her. Her baby daughter has to eat rice today. This ceremony calls as 'Anna Prasan' ceremony. Today she has also to be given a name.

Her baby daughter is giggling and uttering meaningless syllables monotonously. Like every baby of her age she also likes to play with herself. She is lying happily in her baby cot decorated with red rose, white lilles and yellow sunflower beautifully with taste. The decoration was planned and excuted successfully by her 'Saas' (mother-in-law). Savitri devi, her mother-in-law, sits happily near the cot and with her hands she is pushing the cot slightly. The cot swings forward and backward with every such push and the baby starts giggling more.

After many research the baby has been given the name of "Sivangi" (one form of Goddess Durga). Mahabir Prasad wanted to name her as "Laxmi" but he was outnumbered by votes of his family members. All of them agree on the fact that "Laxmi" is very outdated name. Savitriji, on the other hand, wanted to call her as "Durga". Her daughter-in-law suggested the name "Sivangi" which was accepted immediately by all. Panditji also gave blessings to the child by claiming -

"This name will best suit this feisty child."

Mahabir Prasad snorts in this remark. "Fiesty, puff." The baby does not mind at all. Sitting on the lap of Panditji she giggles with pleasure.

After that Panditji puts a small core of rice in the babies mouth and the 'Anna Prasan' ceremony ends here with grand success after the auspicous "Naam Karan" (naming) ceremony.

All are very happy today. Mahabir Prasad is happy. His son, Laxman Prasad is happy. His wife, Savitri devi is happy. Their daughter-in-law Sumedha is also very happy. Little does they know how temporary this happiness is.

Death Comes Fast

Three months later Laxman Prasad is pacing once more through the long corridor of the hospital. His wife, Sumedha went to labour at midnight after her water broke suddenly while doing sex. He rushed her to hospital and waiting eagerly for the good news.

He has been accompanied by his father. Mahabir Prasad is also waiting to see the faces of his two grand-sons. His long cherished dream is soon going to be true.

The doctor comes out of the ICU and ushers Laxman into the nearest room. He gestures him to be seated. After sitting he scolds Laxman -

"You should be ashamed of yourself."

Laxman is taken aback. Why should he be ashamed? He had make himself and his father proud by impregnating his wife so soon after delivering their first child with twin sons. What had he done?

"You should not have done sex with your wife so frequently."

Laxman's cheeks are turning red, not in shame, but with embarrassment.

"Do you love her or not? Her condition is worse for your negligency." The old foolish doctor is not stopping his lecture.

"Please, doctor, save them. At any cost." Laxman insists.

But nobody could stop the disaster to happen. After 24 hours long suffering Sumedha dies giving birth to her twins. Her painful vaginal birth kills her. The cause of her death was extreme blood lose due to delivery.

Mahabir Prasad, after hearing this depressing news, snorts again and declares in loud surprising everybody -

"I told beforehand to everybody that girl (baby Sivangi) would bring only disaster to this family."

Alas, this is called the irony of fate which happens almost every day in most middle class Indian family. One does the blunder and another is blamed for it.
