"Uhhh…." His mouth stayed wide open as though he was thinking, and his eyes fluttered when he saw Yennefer turn her head to look at him with her neutral gray eyes.
"Do you?" She pried.
"Well…um…no…" He answered, realizing that he bore no dislike for her anymore, and a smile instantly emerged on Yennefer's face.
She quickly sat up on the bed and gazed at him with glowing eyes.
"So does that mean we are friends?!!" She inquired, sparkles twinkling in her eyes, and Luthiel flickered his lashes, his green eyes gazing at her as well.
He's never seen her like this before.
At this moment, she looked like a little child who had been given candy, or better yet, like an excited child.
She sort of looked.. cute.
His heart squinted immediately at this thought, and he quickly gripped his chest.
"Are we friends?" Yennefer, who was still patiently waiting for an answer from him, asked yet again, and this time, a deep breath fled Luthiel's nose.
"Well, since I don't dislike you, technically that makes us friends, I guess." He answered with an indifferent expression on his face, even though his heart was fluttering.
A long gasp of glee fled Yennefer's mouth, and she abruptly stood up from the bed.
Before Luthiel could even anticipate what she would do, she rushed towards him and jumped on him, hugging him tightly.
"Hey! Don't do that-"
They fell off the chair onto the floor, leaving Yennefer lying on top of him.
"Ouch!"
Having bumped her forehead on his, a hiss of pain escaped Yennefer's mouth, and she pressed her hands on the floor to lift herself up.
"I am really sorry about...." Her words faded before she could finish them, the instant her gray eyes met with his green ones.
They stared at each other in a daze, and at the same time, their hearts began to thump wildly within them to the point that they could hear each other's hearts.
"Why is her heart beating so furiously?"
"Why is his heart beating so rapidly?"
This question flew through their minds at the same time, and sensing this sort of feeling they couldn't explain overwhelm them, they quickly jumped off each other with their eyes blinking nervously.
"Am-am sorry." She apologized and hurriedly walked back to the bed.
She laid down on her side, and without sparing him a glance, she shut her eyes.
"Good night." She said to him, and unable to respond, Luthiel walked back to the chair and sat down, his head resting backward.
The clock ticked as time passed, and slowly the two fell asleep.
An hour plus a few minutes passed, and Luthiel, who was sleeping soundly, moved as deep groans of fear flew into his ears.
He tried to ignore it, but when the groans turned into sobs, he slowly blinked his eyes open in frustration.
He turned his head in the direction where the sobs were resounding, and the moment his gaze fell on Yennefer, who was frantically turning on the bed with a face filled with tears, he immediately stood up from the chair.
He stared at her, and his lashes fluttered rapidly, unsure why she was crying in her sleep.
Was she having a nightmare?
He asked himself and quickly rushed to her.
"Yennefer! Yennefer!" He proceeded to pat her and wake her up, but Yennefer, however, grabbed onto him and pulled him down into the bed.
"Am sorry! Please don't abandon me. I promise I will be better..."
She sobbed even more heavily and held tightly onto Luthiel, who had fallen into the bed beside her.
Luthiel stared at her face, and he found himself feeling sort of hurt.
He couldn't understand what sort of nightmare she could be having for her to be crying like that and pleading as though she had committed a crime.
Who was abandoning her?
Who was she saying sorry to?
These questions whirled in his mind, and unable to take her crying anymore, he unlocked her arms that were wrapped around him and harshly shook her.
"Yennefer, wake up!" In a high-pitched voice, he called her, and Yennefer instantly sprang her eyes open, her chest furiously rising and falling as she breathed heavily.
She stared at Luthiel's face, which was a bit close to hers, with wild eyes, and to calm her down, Luthiel gently caressed her hair.
"It's okay. You're alright." He said to her, hoping that it would at least work, and it did end up calming her down, just as he had hoped.
"Are you okay?" He inquired, and without answering, Yennefer sat up on the bed and stood up.
She walked towards the washroom and stepped inside, shutting the door behind her.
Luthiel gazed at the door for a few moments, and not wanting to disturb her, he proceeded to sit down on the chair. However, immediately hearing yet another series of whimpers coming from the washroom, he quickly rushed to the door and pushed it open.
He glanced to the side and stilled on seeing Yennefer seated on the floor, her back resting on the wall, with her legs pulled up to her chest and her face buried in her knees.
She sobbed silently, and Luthiel pinched between his brows.
"Yennefer-"
"Please go away." She spoke to him before he could finish his words, and he arched his brow at her.
A deep sigh of annoyance fled his nose, and he stepped into the washroom.
He sat down on the floor beside her and rested his head back on the wall.
"Just so you know, I hate to hear people cry, especially the ones I care about. So it's either you tell me what's wrong or you stop crying."
He said to her without sparing her a glance, and Yennefer slowly raised her head to look at him.
"You... care about me?" She asked with eyes filled with disbelief, and Luthiel finally turned his head to look at her.
"Well, yes, I suppose. I mean, isn't that what friends are for? I already told you that we are friends because I don't...dislike you, so obviously I care about you. Cause if I don't, I definitely won't be seated here asking you what's wrong."
"I pretty much would have ignored you, or better yet, thrown you out of the room."
He replied, and a smile slowly formed on Yennefer's face as she gazed at him in a daze.
Right now, the man she was looking at was no longer the cold Luthiel she used to know.
It was as if he was showing her the soft side of him that no one else would ever see.
Her smile widened even more and she suddenly snapped back to reality when his voice flew into her ears.
"So tell me, what's making you cry?"
