Learning the vampire history

"So how did vampires come to exist in the first place?" Clarisse asked after five minutes of silence.

Garrick stared at her and smiled. She acts like she wants nothing to do with him but here she kept asking him questions. Maybe it was just curiosity as there was no one else to answer that question, or maybe she really wanted to bond with him but she wouldn't admit it.

"Well, the creation of vampires dates way back to nearly a million years ago. The original vampires, the very first to exist, were created by a mixture of unicorn blood enchanted with magic. It all began in an ancient land which ceases to exist in the present day map. A man was desperate to save his dying offspring, and so he met a powerful witch who practiced the old religion. She had to sacrifice a unicorn and with its mythical blood, she created the first vampires. However, they couldn't conceive with humans and so they had no other choice than to intermarry." He explained.

"Huh? So all vampires came from the same parents?" she asked.

"Yeah, just like all humans are believed to come from the first man and woman," he replied and laughed.

Clarisse smiled, she was amazed to learn of the history of vampires, she always hated herself and her father for what she was, but now she knew how they came about, she felt less hateful of their nature.

She always loved reading books about unicorns even though she had never seen one, she used to think it was just a fiction animal since there were no history of it and no sightings of the specie in years, but she was wrong after all, unless her father had just made up that story, then unicorns exist and she had blood of one.

Clarisse stared at his arm as he drove and couldn't help but notice that the spot where she had bit him had closed up, just the sign of her teeth was left there. He healed way faster than her.

"So… Can vampires die?" she asked curiously. Connor had explained something of that sort to her years ago but she wanted a better explanation and also confirmation from someone older and more open than Connor.

Garrick smiled again and stared at her. "Why? Do you want to kill me?" he asked and chuckled.

She scoffed and rolled her eyes at him. "I already made it clear, if I could, I would get rid of you. I always get rid of things that bother me and you are one of those things," she replied honestly.

Garrick huffed and pretended not to be hurt by her words, even though it pained him to know that his presence in her life was like a thorn in her flesh, a daily reminder of everything she had to go through in his absence.

"So you would really kill me if you could?" he asked with a smirk.

"Yeah, why should you be bothered about that? I mean, you have lived quite the life. Nearly three thousand years on earth, the best of humans don't get one percent of that lifespan," she reasoned.

Garrick chuckled. "Their bad, but let's not forget that humans don't constantly need to feed on blood to survive. Do you know what happens when a vampire goes months or more without blood, they begin to fade away till they cease to exist, unless they go into slumber and that helps preserve them till when they can feed."

Clarisse crumpled months, that is a horrible comparison because a human would also die of thirst if they don't drink water in weeks, which is much less time compared to a vampire's thirst for blood." She reasoned.

Garrick sighed and bumped his fist on his forehead. "You are just like your mom, difficult to beat in an argument." He blurted.

"I see what you are doing, don't change the topic. Tell me how to kill a vampire, or are you scared that I would kill you?" she asked with a smirk.

Garrick laughed softly. "No, not at all, even if I tell you how to kill a vampire, you wouldn't be able to do so because the weapon is very rare, there are just two of it in the world; the first is safe with the vampire council and no one knows where the second one is." He replied

"Weapon? What weapon is that?" she asked curiously with wide eyes.

Garrick hesitated a bit and then he decided to tell her; she needed to know for her own safety anyway. It was his duty to enlighten her and that he must do.

"The only thing that can kill a vampire is a stab to the chest with the very object from which they were created, they can only be killed with the…" Garrick suddenly paused when he almost bumped into another car that was coming from the other side, he had arrived at home and it seemed like the car was about to drive into the gates that led to his castle.

There was a gate and a long drive –in with trees on both sides, before the stairs that lead up to the castle as it was built on high ground. Garrick stopped the car and was about to get down but the man did so first and walked to him.

He was shocked when he came down and came to face yet another old friend. how did he forget to go visit this guy since he woke up?

"I didn't believe it when they told me that you were back, I said Garrick wouldn't return in such a short time," he said excitedly and opened his arms for a hug.

Garrick chuckled and spread his arms as well. "Come here old pal," he laughed and they embraced each other. "You aren't even aging at all, not even like a vampire," Garrick teased as they unlocked the hug.

"Hahaha… neither are you, brother," Albus Bowie replied and laughed.

Albus and Garrick had known each other for almost two centuries, but their friendship got stronger decades ago when Garrick had done him a huge favor.

At that moment, Clarisse, who was tired of sitting in the car, came out. Albus stared at her in confusion and then he looked at Garrick for explanation.

"Oh, meet my daughter, Clarisse Verne." He said proudly with a smile.

"What? You have a daughter?" Albus asked with a look of surprise on his face and stared at Clarisse again, she just looked away because she didn't feel comfortable sharing eye contact with him.

"Yes, it's a long story." He replied to cut the whole thing short.

"Well, it's a good thing that we have more time than we can make use of." Albus joked and they laughed.

Just then, the side door of his car opened and someone walked out. Garrick could already sense that he wasn't alone in the car from the moment he stepped down but he didn't want to inquire about the person in the car.

A young man walked out of the car and came closer to them. Garrick watched him closely and then turned to Albus. "Is this your little boy?" he asked with a look of doubt on his face.

"Hahaha, yes… as you can see, he is not so little anymore," Albus replied with a smile. Garrick had saved the child from a fire decades ago when he was just a baby and for that Albus had remained thankful to him. Vampires might be immortal, but their babies weren't invulnerable.

Garrick and the boy exchanged greetings, his name was Chase Bowie and he was quite handsome. Clarisse stole glances at him while patiently waiting for his father to end this conversation already and take her into the property- she was starving!!

"So who did you get mated with? And how, when? I had no idea you found a mate, let alone have a child," Albus confessed his amazement.

Garrick smiled. "Like I said, it's complicated. Her mother is Claire, I am sure you remember her," he uttered.

"Claire? Oh, you still hang out with that chick? Wait, isn't Claire a human?" he asked as it dawned on him.

Garrick laughed softly. "I know what you are thinking, come with me, let's talk inside. We have a lot of catching up to do," he uttered and tapped Albus on the shoulder before walking back into his car.

Clarisse was relieved, she couldn't wait to escape from this awkward reunion of vampires. She felt like she didn't fit in, especially since her mother was a human and she was raised to behave more like an abnormal human.
