This room appeared to be a long hall with towering walls that had no windows. If one looked closer one could see tiny slits in the wall. The reason for the slits were because of the heroes. These slits weren't just for show. They hinder any signal from the many super satellites in outer space.
"Mr. Nightmare." the mature woman said as she introduced Ruby to the young youths of about 17 to 18.
Just like him, these people had no family…And it was because of the heroes. Hence, Ruby took them in. However, it wasn't just because of the kindness of his heart.
kind?
He had plans for this group right here. They would be the ones he could rely on when it reaches a point of no escape. You can say it was his trump card, but the thing is that he didn't rely on only one trump card.
"How are you folks doing?!" Ruby started pacing toward the group of elites as he used his hands to jab their stomach. The youths clenched their jaws and endured the pain.
This pain was less compared to what they have suffered at the hands of the supes. But it was still painful though…
"What's that expression?" Ruby asked as he noticed a young teen of about 17.
This youngster had an undernourished face, hollow eyes, and a body that seemed like it would fall apart soon.
" Nothing, sir!" The teen said as he tried to act tough and fixed his gaze on the front again.
Ruby bobbed his head slightly as he noticed the determined glint in the boy's eyes.
If he wants to achieve his goal, he must be determined. Ruby knew. It was one of the things that kept him alive.
A bit of time passed as Ruby continued to inspect the elites before strolling out with Aella once again.
"Nice job, Kate. I really appreciate what you're doing." Ruby said in gratitude.
"It's ok, it was the least I could do for your late mom." Her voice became heavy as she said the last part. This woman was Ruby's mother's close friend.
If he could remember, she came to their house almost every evening, gosping with his mom.
"Right, I'm here for another reason." Ruby glanced down at Aella—who had a confused face since she didn't know what was going on.
"I want you to enroll her in an orphanage. I'll transfer 30,000$ to make the necessary arrangements."
He didn't mind spending that much for little Aella. The little girl was ranked at a celestial level by the system, so only that means something, right?
In a way, he was simply doing an investment for the future. A future for a monster.
"Sure." Kate sent a subtle glance toward Aella— who still had a confused expression.
The system initially stated that he should keep her under his custody. With just a little thought, Ruby found a way to manipulate the punishment.
If he continually pays for her feeding and upkeep, it would be considered as still him taking care of her. Hence, it would be considered fulfilling his punishment.
"Ruby, where did you find her?" Kate said as she ruffled the little girl. However, Aella was a bit distant… She didn't trust anyone again.
"It's better you don't know. It's not a good memory for her."
Kate seemed to grasp it and didn't ask any further questions.
"Hey." Ruby squatted to Aella's height. "you will be staying with a lot of kids your age mate from now on. Are you happy?"
Aella exhibited a small smile as she heard Ruby. She wanted a normal life—not inside a gloomy cave with 3 women.
"Thank you, brother Ruby." Little Aella pounced on Ruby as she fastened her hands on his neck, giving a tight embrace.
A Speck of tears welled out of her eyes as she pulled out from the embrace. " You will come to visit, right?"
"Yes, I'll come visit, but I don't know what time though."
Ruby couldn't make any promises he couldn't keep. He was a tight-scheduled villain and a wanted person by the entire world.
It was still a miracle he could come out on a broad, sunny day such as this.
"Ok, I'll be taking my leave, and remember don't get into fights."
With that said, Ruby started pacing out of the orphanage without glancing behind.
'I need to keep all these emotions about my sister in check. If not, it would only hinder my growth. Come on Ruby.' He convinced himself as he gradually disappeared from the matured woman and Aella's view.
"Aella, come on, you hungry?" Kate said as she grasped Aella's frail hands lightly.
_______
Outer city....
Ruby, still in his rugged form, paces around the city with a lowered gaze. Although he was successfully shrouded with his disguise mask, he still didn't want to attract the cameras which were littered all over the city.
A fight here would make it hard for him to survive. Hence, he acted like your old, trusty regular citizen.
So far his stroll had been good or…was good until a Red-capped super zoomed past him almost knocking him to the ground. The supe moved so fast that Ruby only saw hazy blurred streaks of red light.
Glimpsing at what happened, almost all the people present veered their gaze to Ruby, who feigned a hurtful expression as he collapsed to the ground.
'This is what I'm talking about. These capes can't even consider the elderly.'
Staggering and wobbly, Ruby stood back on his feet and flashed I'm ok smile to the bystanders.
it would seem strange of an old man, according to his appearance, standing still despite being nudged hard by an elite superhuman. Hence the act.
The people got the act as they all scrambled away with their daily lives.
'I never knew I'm such a good actor.' Ruby inwardly mused as he continued his stroll.
Just taking a step forward, A towering man in all black and hoody pulled up bump into Ruby.
"Sorry, mate. So many things in my mind." The towering figure appeared to be the same height as he shuffled through the bustling crowd. For a moment, the figure glanced behind as their eyes met.
'What the! Red eyes?"
Yup, the man had menacing red eyes that would make cold sweat break out on any human.
'This is weird. I'm sure those eyes are not from excessive smoking. I can only come up with one theory. Either he is sick or a…vampire.'
It seemed like a tsunami of headaches barraged Ruby when he thought of that possibility.
'I'm just overthinking vampires aren't rea–' Ruby snapped when he remembered Muna being a vampire. However, he tried to dispel that possibility since he couldn't tell where the minions were coming from.
'Vampires don't go around walking in the sun.' With these thoughts and his act, he Halted a yellow cab. Hoping in, he casually flung a lump of cash at the driver.
The man's eyes widened as he saw the wand of notes. Throughout his life as a taxi driver, this was the highest amount he had ever received.
For a moment, the man thought the elderly man behind him didn't know what he was doing and he a good American citizen asked, "Sir, I think you gave me more than you're supposed to."
'Oh, nice soul, huh? Too bad I'm not nice like you. Sorry in advance for what is about to happen to you.'
"I know it was on purpose, just drive, I gotta be somewhere."
Seeing such a gift, the man zipped his mouth as he kicked start the vehicle engine. After a bit of time, it roared as though to say I'm here before zooming off.
Back at the Street, where Ruby just left, the red-eyed man gazed at the car as it slowly turned into a steak of a blur.
"So he is the so-called Nightmare. Smart but stupid. anyway, I just need to follow that damn car and finish this shit once and for all." With those words, the man raised his hands and did a click.
All the cameras and the people in this district started seeing blue and black as they suddenly felt dizzy and drowsy. The people all saw swirling rainbows while, for some reasons, some saw themselves jerking off in the bathroom.
'Humans with their weird fetish!' The man emitted a low snarl before bursting into a thick shadowy tunnel of smoke. The shadow tunnel raced down the streets with its prey in sight.
"Now what's this phenomenon?' Tired, Ruby thought as he noticed the shadowy fog chasing them. He found it weird thus making him deem it a threat. First of all, Ruby glanced out the window and noticed that all the cars were honking nonstop and their lights buzzing off and on as whosoever is piloting them seemed to be in a daze as their pupils glowed with a black shadowy circle within it.
'This is just like the daze skill… Don't tell me–' snapped off, The blue translucent system prompt flickered.
