A knock on her door woke Joy up. With her eyes still closed she answered.

"Come in, Liana," she said, yawning and stretching her body kicking off her covers.

"Morning " Gerald's voice said. Joy paused her morning activity and opened her eyes to see him standing next in the doorway with her breakfast.

"Morning " she sprung up pulling down her clothes to cover the exposed thighs.

"May I come in?" he asked.

She nodded. He walked in placing the tray down.

"How do you feel now?" he asked.

"Better, my waist doesn't hurt anymore and my ankle is healing too," she said.

Gerald's hand moved to her forehead, Joy sat still not moving.

"Your temperature is back to normal too," he said looking down at her, noticing her face change color he pulled away. "have some breakfast "

"Is Liana here yet?" she asked.

"She called saying she won't make it today," he said passing the tray to her.

"Something happened?"

"Didn't tell me much " he lied. Xavier had called saying they would not come and Gerald had to take care of Joy.

"Okay," Joy started on her breakfast.

He smiled watching her eat, "what?" she looked away.

"Nothing "

"I want to get better soon, I don't want to get used to this wonderful treatment," she said.

"It's okay don't rush it, am glad am doing this," he said.

"I wanted to ask since that night but failed too," Joy said.

"what is it?"

"Why are you going out of your way to help me this much? Before all this happened I used to see and treat you differently. But now after doing this much for me, how should I start seeing you?" she asked.

He was silent for a while with his eyes staring at her.

"Honestly, I don't know how to answer that " he chuckled, "all I know is that I have always wanted to get close, care, and watch over you. But you were so in love with Lucian and I was also in a relationship "

Joy was silent staring back at him.

"I didn't want to be a selfish person, but after he hurt you I could not hold back. So when I got this chance I took it without looking back, even when I know we can never be I still wanted to be close to you" he said.

"Why do you mean we can't be? am I not well worthy of you or is it because I fell for Lucian " her eyes filled with sadness.

Gerald held her hand and smiled, "Don't ever think like that, it's me who isn't worthy of you, sweetheart. Am a demon, tainted from birth even if I wanted to I still would never be good for you. You are pure, kind, sweet, and beautiful I would never want to hurt, never "

"But nothing like that, all I have been was a foolish girl who led her friend's company to be taken away from her, cause she was too stupid to know she was being used " tears formed in her eyes.

Gerald frowned getting closer his hand touched her face, "Don't cry or blame yourself for anything. We all know it's Lucian's fault, not yours. He took advantage of your love for his selfish needs, he should be the one suffering not you " he said.

Joy's face got sadder and burst out in tears.

"Hi, don't cry, am sorry if I said anything bad " Gerald panicked trying to calm her. He wiped her falling tears, 'shhh don't cry am sorry " he said.

"Am sorry, it's just that you are so good to me and not blaming me for anything. I thought everyone would shun me cause I was involved in helping Lucian, but your all say I should not blame myself"

"Don't, 'cause it wasn't your fault " he said.

"Thank you " she cried. Gerald moved to take the tray away. Joy looked up at him with tears still crying, "am not done yet " she said.

"I know but I thought you would want a hug, I created space so I could give you one "

"Okay," she cried opening her arms. Not hesitating Gerald hugged her, holding her tightly while she cried caressing her.

"Do you think Gerald and Joy are okay?" Liana asked.

They had just left the police station after releasing Lucian. He had not said anything and walked out.

"They would have called if anything was wrong, don't worry, " Xavier said.

"Why did you refuse me to go there, I wanted to know what happened last night " she placed her seat belt on.

Xavier laughed, "why are you being nosey?"

"Am not, I just want to know what's going on with those two. They have been acting weird and you seem to know something "

Xavier smiled, "I have known for a while, it's just that it's Gerald's problem. So let's give him space and time to figure it out "

"But what does it involve Joy?".

" Because it's all about Joy. Gerald has been in love with her since the day he saw her "

"WHAT?, but how come I didn't notice "

" So even if she falls for him, they will both end up being hurt. But. why is he still willing to look after her like this? " Liana sulked.
