The two wolves continued to stare at each other as they communicated with their minds.
'What? It's only been two days how can he back? He's back? Now?' Jude questioned Krii.
'Yes,' he's in the Enclosure and he wants to talk to you.
'Great.' The grumble rang in Krii's head. 'When he said he was leaving did he say two days or two months?'
'I don't remember, but I think it was two months. He must have said two months. He's visiting the packs outside the country and this stuff takes long. So, yeah, two months... I think.'
'What do you mean you don't remember? It was two days ago. How can you not remember?'
'Because two days ago was your birthday. I was drunk,' he said it like it was so obvious. 'And you were there too why are you asking me?'
"Why are you guys staring at each other like that?" Joy stood up. Her eyes were narrowed, glancing between them. Her empty plate in her hand.
"He just really gets on my nerves," Jude scratched the back of his neck.
"Yeah right I'm not stupid," she scoffed, shoving her plate on Judes stomach. "More please," she sat back down, "I know you're doing that telepathy thing. If you're going to talk about me you can do it to my face. That's if you're brave." She stuffed a slice of bread into her mouth, her eyes not leaving them.
"We were talking about the... the hole in the barrier." Krii told her as Jude dished some more vegetables for her.
"Right," Jude handed her the plate, "I was telling him to add a few more guys to the security. Anyway, you must be really tired so we will leave you alone. You finish eating and get some rest."
She frowned, glaring at him.
"And if you want, we will wake you up for the Glo gathering," Krii added with a nervous, wide smile.
"No thank you," she mumbled, crawling to the fur blanket. Thomas.
"What about your food?" Jude asked, glancing at the plate. "You said you wanted more."
"I've lost my appetite. You can leave now," she mumbled, turning on her side to face away from them.
"Let's go," Krii nudged Jude.
"Okay, I'll catch up with you," he waved him off. "Joy?" He rasped when Krii had closed the door. "Are you okay?"
Joy sat up, glaring fiery daggers at him. "It's enough that I'm going through all this in the first place. Do not make me feel worse."
"What do you mean?" He cocked his head to the side.
"I hate being lied to," she gritted. "I think you should know that about me. With that she lied back down.
Jude, out of guilt, didn't say anything further. He exited the hut and bolted for the Enclosure.
Krii and Jemima were sitting at the top of the steps that led into the Enclosure.
"Did you guys have your first fight?" Krii mocked, noticing Jude's frown.
"Shut up Krii," Jude hissed and descended, leaving the two behind.
The Enclosure was the Alphas quarters. He and immediate family members lived there. It was called the Enclosure because of the giant brick wall surrounding it. The house itself was built going down. Jude was first to enter the throne room, coming face to face with a white wolf that lay in the middle.
"What took you so long?" The wolf hissed, and Jude bowed his head.
"I'm sorry. I had something to take care of," he raised his head, facing the wolf. "I thought you would be back in two months."
"I sensed the breach and had to come back. I heard one of them slipped through and attacked. How did this happen under your watch? I sensed that breach yesterday, which means it happened yesterday, which means it should have been taken care of... yesterday," he growled, standing up, his teeth bared.
"I only found out today."
"And why is that?" His voice was low, but harsh. "Why is that Jude?"
"He let a half breed in so he was distracted," Jemima's bored tone echoed in the room and Jude glared at her.
"What?" The wolf huffed. "What?" He repeated. "You let a half breed in?"
"Just hear me out-"
"Shut up. Shut. Up." The wolf hissed, then left the room with a vicious growl.
"You're in trouble," Krii sang, his hand covering his mouth.
"Krii-" A spear flying across the room cut Jude off and he ducked with a gasp.
The spearhead stuck deep into the wall, the wooden part bouncing back and forth.
"Dude you could have killed him!" Jemima yelled at the man entering the throne room. He ran a hand through his long black hair, a scowl on his face, rage in his deep blue eyes.
"I missed, didn't I?" He shrugged at Jemima who rolled her eyes.
"Listen Reid," Jude spoke calmly, his eyes narrowing at the man who was stalking towards him.
"I was gone for two days," the man whispered. "Just two days and you brought in a half breed?"
"If it's any consolation he brought her in before you left, so it's not like he was waiting for you to leave so he could do things behind your back or anything," Krii spoke, sitting himself on the floor.
"Thank you for your unwanted contribution Krii," Jude huffed. "Reid listen, she smells like Lyssa."
Reid's eyes turned dark and he exhaled. "Not this again Jude. You can't do this again."
"Reid-"
"We can't force soulmates it doesn't work like that!" He yelled. "The last time we tried our pack barely survived. "We were wrong to think we could befriend outsiders, even worse, half breeds."
"Reid, she smells like Lyssa!" His voice rose, and Reid narrowed his eyes. "She smells like Lyssa. You are the only person that knew her as well as I did. You could recognise her scent anywhere, and if this woman is her daughter then I need to know. I need to know that my mind isn't playing tricks on me," he clenched and unclenched his fists, "It is so hard for me to keep pretending like this was just an accident."
Jemima's eyebrows rose and she stepped closer to the two men. "Wait, Jude you told me that she fell off the cliff after an accident, did you cause it?"
"No, I didn't. But, I saw an opportunity and took it."
"Okay, let's say I confirm it and she is Lyssa's daughter." Reid's deep voice sounded. "Then what?"
"Then she could be the one," Jude breathed.
"Besides that, Jude. You're not thinking. Lyssa was theirs before she was ours. If this woman turns out to be her daughter they will take her."
"I won't let them," he growled.
"What if she decides to go out of her own free will?"
"She won't."
Reid huffed, running a hand through his hair. His eyes analysed Jude's which switched between green and blue every second.
"Calm down," he sighed. "Staying with the villagers is weakening you. You're panicking," he sat on the floor next to Krii. "And you're supposed to be watching him," he glanced at Jemima who joined them.
"Forgive me but I'm tired of babysitting my older brother. It's your turn now."
"Well he doesn't want to stay with me." Reid pouted. "Where's my nephew? He's the only person who listens to me in this family."
"I listen to you," Krii said, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Did you talk to the pups about fighting pack members?" He raised a questioning brow without looking at him.
"I listen to you... most of the time." He corrected, grimacing.
"So, how did you convince the half breed to stay? I'm sure she's been wanting to go home since she found out she was on wolf territory." Reid glanced at Jude, who was still standing in the same position.
"We told her there's a key only the Alpha uses to open the villages gate," Krii answered.
"I should add that I was against lying to her in the first place," Jemima raised her hand.
"Yeah because you wanted to kill her," Jude scoffed.
"Leave her," she corrected. "I wanted you to leave her to die. There's a difference."
"That key can be used by any royal," Reid spoke. "So, she doesn't know that you two are royals?" He glanced between Jude and Jemima.
"No," Jude answered. "And when you meet her she can't know you're the Alpha. Not until the Blue Moon."
"You want me to lie?" Reid raised his eyebrows, feigning shock.
"I want you to cooperate."
