Prologue

"It seems that Team Heroes is struggling against Team Wizard. What is Team Heroes top doing, and where is their Jungler? From what I'm seeing here folks Team Heroes chances of winning are slowly decreasing." The sportscaster announced in the microphone.

It was 2022's National E-Sports League Championship Finals. Team Heroes and Team Wizard were competing for the Summoners Cup and Legend title. Team Heroes has won 2021's League and was shooting for that accomplishment again. Every seat in the arena was filled with esports fans, as well as fans of Team Heroes and Team Wizards majority of them with boards with lit up names of their bias.

Everyone was intensely sitting in their seats as they watched the game being displayed on the large screen.

The caster then continued over the ranting of the crowd, "It's all together now folks, it seems like Team Heroes players are trying to protect their Mid-Solo. Come to think of it; their Mid-Solo, Checkmate, isn't playing as offensive like he always does. He's avoiding making huge movements. Why? Could there be something wrong with him?"

At hearing this the fans of Team Heroes started to worry, and chatter amongst themselves.

"What's wrong with him?" A guy whispered.

"Is he hurt somewhere?" another asked.

"They might lose." someone shouted.

"This is Checkmate we're talking about, there's no way he's going to let us down." A girl assured them sounding quite hesitant herself.

At hearing this everyone started to nod their head in agreement with her and they soon started to cheer as loudly as they can for Team Heroes.

On the stage in the arena there were PC gaming setups of 5 on both the left and right side. On the left side was Team Wizard and the right was Team Heroes.

"Yi Chen, Yulong, how much longer can you hold off." Yufei, Team Heroes captain and Mid-Solo, user named Checkmate, asked his teammates by talking into the mic of his headset.

"Don't worry captain, we can hold off for as long as you want." Yulong the top laner assured him, without taking his eyes off the screen.

Yi Chen the then warned, "Yulong behind you." Using his champion Riven's valor ability Yi Chen then blocked a damage from the opponent heading directly to Yulong.

"Thanks." Yulong then exhaled. "That was close."

Bai Cheng the Jungler of the team then commented, "Guys keep in mind we can't afford anymore deaths. If we continue to die captain's plan won't work."

Everyone nodded in understandment. Yufei then called out, "Bai Cheng did you reach yet."

"Almost. Can you guys stall a little longer; their top laner is patrolling this area." Bai Cheng answered.

"Take your time, don't rush. One wrong mistake and this won't work." Yufei explained to everyone who answered. "Okay"

"Folks I doesn't look like Team Heroes is doing well at all. Their still protecting Checkmate, and the Jungler is still nowhere to be seen. If they are trying to execute a plan they better do it now before it's too late." the caster announced.

Everyone became more anxious.

The caster then continued, "Team Wizard has already destroyed majority of Team Heroes Turrets. With only a few left could they complete the mission and destroy their enemies base?"

"Guys you remember the plan right?" Yufei questioned.

"We do." Yu Chen answered.

At hearing this Yufei then continued, "The new minions are coming, when I give you the signal, Yu Chen and Yulong finish these three off and clear the path. I'll teleport to Bai Cheng and help him destroy the top lane turret nearest to the home base; while you two keep with the minions in the mid lane. We'll start attacking their base the second we get there." Turning his head slightly to his right Yufei asked, "Support, how's the bottom lane?"

The teams support, Duyi smiled, "All clear captain, I'll meet you guys at the base."

Yufei turned back his full focus to the screen, "Considering how many times they died, we have about 25 seconds before they resurrect. It should be enough if we do everything right."

They all then started to get ready for Yufei's signal, in that moment many questions passed through Yufei's head. What if his plan didn't work? What if they lose? For a split moment he looked up to the crowd, everyone was cheering them on, believing, hoping that they could win this. What if he couldn't meet their expectations.

"NOW!" Yufei then shouted.

The rest of Team Heroes players quickly did as they were told. One would have been able to hear the clicking of the mouses and PC's keyboard. One could see the swiftness of their hands.

"WHAT! It looks like Team Heroes is starting their counter attack. Attacking when the opponent has let their guard down, but could they change the outcome of the game in their favor with only about 18 seconds left before Team Wizard members resurrect?" the caster excitedly announced.

The cheers of Team Heroes fans filled the arena once again. Almost everyone was shouting and cheering their names.

There was about 12 seconds left when Yufei and his teammates started attacking the base. Each of them were playing their best and most effective attack abilities. With that the HP of the red home base of Team Wizard started to deplete rapidly.

"Only 5 seconds left, will they be able to do it?" The caster was gripping onto the microphone.

"Only a little left." Yufei said into his headset. "Get ready, here they come. Hold them off."

The teammates headed behind the base and met face to face with Team Wizard. A team fight quickly took place and Yufei continued attacking the base.

"Team Heroes top laner, Jungler, support, and ADC are trying their best to hold off Team Wizard from getting to their mid-solo who is currently attacking the base." the caster yelled.

In that moment the arena became quiet, as everyone waited for the result.

As the large screen got filled with the word Victory in blue. Team Heroes fans started to cheer as loudly as ever for they had won.

"Unbelievable! Team Heroes managed to turn the game around and win, but with such a risky tactic. They deserve the name Legends. Let's have it folks the Winner of 2022's National E-Sports League Championship Finals is Team Heroes." the caster casted for the whole arena to hear.

Team Heroes players all got up in amazement and hugged each other, including Yufei.

They then lined up and walked to the other side of the gaming stage and shook the hands of Team Wizard. They then ran up to the center of the stage and laughed and cheered as they were given the Summoners Cup.

THREE MONTHS LATER

"Yufei!" Bai Cheng called out to him as he exited their gaming base. Yulong, Yi Chen and Duyi appeared behind him also.

"Why?" Bai Cheng asked with teary eyes.

"I wanted to leave without having to say goodbye." Yufei sighed placing his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.

Yulong then pleaded, "We understand that you're retiring, but you don't have to leave the base."

Everyone nodded which made Yufei smiled.

"Yes I do. Do me a favor and listen to your new captain." Yufei told as he hugged them.

Without saying another word, he walked into the sunset as the friends he considered more than just teammates but family watched him disappear behind the trees at the curve from their base with teary eyes.

"This is were we start taking different paths. We'll meet again, sometime." Yufei whispered. He smiled as the sun hit his face, welcoming the new journey ahead of him.
