Back up Family

As soon as the owners saw me, they seemed to be as surprised as I was. Nevertheless, they weren't holding anything such as a weapon, or anything to defend their home. Slowly, their expressions began to change, into something happier, rather than shocked.

A beautiful couple, remarkably in love. The man, approximately 6'01'' tall, had light brown eyes and hair, and furthermore, he lacked a beard. His clothes were made of a light fabric, and seemed suitable for wearing as pajamas.

As for the woman, she wasn't as tall, approximately 5' 38'' tall. Sapphire blue eyes, which fitted perfectly with her red hair. Her clothes were pratically the same, mainly used as pajamas, indicating me that, indeed, they were sleeping before my arrival.

''Darling, are you sure this is true?'', the woman began, while she approached her husband, and kept analyzing me

The man took another glance at me, before answering her. What was the point of her question? No possible explanation came to my mind. Whatever it was, I would have to participate in this situation, so as to later convince them with my fake story.

''I suppose so'', he casually approached me a little, and to add up into my acting, I decided to back off a little, ''Here, young one. You don't have to be afraid''

This kind man extended his arm to me as a way of demonstrating that I could trust them. Never, in all of the centuries I've lived, human generosity was never under my understanding. Not because it was hard to understand, but rather because it was pointless for me to learn about it some centuries ago.

''A-Are you going to hurt me?'', my acting had to be perfect, no matter what it takes, knowing that, failing now could turn out to be fatal

Gazing them with my perfectly made up saddened eyes, while also forcing my tone to be a little despondent, made them believe me straight away. Clearly, these owners were touched by the way I spoke, therefore, I could use this moment, not only to find a place to stay, but also to learn a bit more about human's nature.

''There's nothing for you to worry about'', the woman approached as well, and started to pat me, which was sort of weird from my point of view, ''Whatever happened with you, understand that you're safe now''

Humans are quite intriguing. These people are pretty careless, by trying to comfort a random child who appeared at their house. Either way, knowing that they were so generous to a stranger, perhaps my story wasn't necessary. My decision was to stay here, among them.

''C-Can I stay here for a while?'', asking that while stuttering could be a smart move, aware of how naive they are, ''After what happened to my family, I have nowhere to go!''

They nodded their head, and approached a bit more. Now, the wife wiped out the fake tears I had near my eyes, and afterwards, her husband decided to help her out into comforting me. Were they naive or just too kind? I didn't bother into understanding that for now.

''Of course you can!'', both of them replied gladly, indicating me that all of this acting worked out greatly

''But, you must be tired for now'', the woman helped me to lay down on the bed as she completed her speech, ''Why don't you rest for tonight?''

My simplest response was to fake a grateful smile so they could take it as confirmation. At the same moment, the two of them wished me good night and walked out the door happily. These humans are not that bad, so I decided to keep them around me.

Even after they had left, I remained there, just to be safe. Demons are restless and self-sufficient creatures, and as a expected consequence, sleeping is not necessary. It is possible, however, for myself, it's just a waste of time. Having infinite stamina prevents me from sleeping, anyway.

Silently, I opened the window from the bedroom, and went outside, heading for the roof. Indeed a gorgeous night, with a bright starry sky. Being on top gave me a privileged view of the town. Above the hills, there were some bigger houses, probably of the wealthy people.

I admit that I would love to observe the wonderful sky that this night presented to me, however, luckily, they did not detect the knives, kept in my pockets. If I was going to get rid of them, I should do it somewhere farther away from the city, without being discovered.

Swiftly, I jumped from roof to roof, without making noise, so I could get away from this sector full of houses. Getting away from the town would force me into causing a lot of noise to use my wings once again. The asleep town would immediately wake up, causing me to be discovered as a demon.

Nevertheless, it didn't take me much time before finding an isolated place. Throwing the knives away made me almost defenseless, now that my mana attacks were my only offense option. In a town like this, there might be shops, so I could buy a proper sword.

Getting rid of them was easy, since I only buried them. Before doing so, I made sure that there wasn't any blood of mine there, otherwise, people could discover it was me. After finishing, I should just go back to the house in silence. If I wanted to afford some equipment to train in the forests, I should get a job, to begin with.

The place I buried them was near a graveyard, far away from the town's square. Luckily, finding a place like this indicated me that the probabilities of being discovered were minimal.

A graveyard full of tombs, with a nice entrance for a place where funerals are made. Inside its gates, there was a small stone hut, which was sort of weird. Also, in the sign that was right above the gate, there was ''Mallan's Graveyard''.

Perhaps, that was the town's name, or the kingdom's. Unfortunately, I don't recall any kingdom or town with this name. Seeing how different it looks from my time, and also, all of the unknown names I have faced up until now, made me wonder about how many years it took for me to reincarnate.

My problem now would be to go back to the house, seeing that after jumping off the roofs, I would have to find a way up again. And however I should do, it couldn't be as noisy as the wings would be, as not to wake the citizens up.

I could think about it later on, so I just kept moving towards my final location. Indeed, using the spell that takes away their sight and hearing could be a nice idea, however that guy from earlier managed to hear me anyway. There's no guarantee that anyone here won't have this capacity as well. Lastly, waiting for my mana to regenerate after using the spell would probably cause it to deactivate before I even summoned the wings.

After getting near the house, I pondered for a while. It's not that tall, only enough to prevent me from propelling myself up high to get there. Having in mind that wings were out of the question now, and that using spells to reach the roof again would draw attention, abusing this body's flexibility a little should be the only plausible solution.

I dashed towards a wall, and with the impulse, I end running up , like if I was being attracted towards it. When I get close to the roof, as it was the house opposite that couple's house, I push myself away, landing perfectly close to my bedroom window.

Marvelously, light was already appearing, along with the morning sun, rising on the horizon. Clearly, that was a sign that it has been a long night. Escaping the mansion, fighting the Imp and the hunters, and witnessing a festival.

Although it was a very troubled renaissance, I admit that I had some fun in this process. This new life amuses me, as now I will have the pleasure of raising my status. I don't care if it will take me ages to do it. In the end, I will claim all my former strength.
