Chapter 11

NATALIE'S Pov:

I had drowned 5 glasses of wine already. At this point, I knew I had to take a break. I was already a little bit above tipsy. But then, I was enjoying myself, every bit of the music I heard. Even though I was enjoying myself, I wanted to do that very well and forget all my worries but the thoughts of getting married to Maverick kept popping up in my head, and the anger of not getting into law school. I felt disgusted immediately. If I had a chance, I'd disappear.

When Abby said let's do beer, without thinking, I just nodded my head to her suggestions. Well, she didn't suggest it, she was telling me of her next plan.

"Are you sure about the beer?" She asked at the top of her voice. She knew I was lightheaded. I didn't care, anything to forget about the wedding for a while.

"Yes, 100%" I responded giving her a thumbs up. She called on the guy that had served us earlier. Yelling at the top of her voice, she requested four glasses of beer. Now I know Abby wanted to kill me. The waiter returned with a tray of glasses containing beer.

"Go easy, sis, " Abby yelled into my ears as I gulped one glass of beer. She was the one who suggested beer but now, she's asking me to go easy. I just nodded my head. Before I knew it, Abby was off to the dance floor leaving me alone to myself. When I finished one and a half glasses, I felt the urge to use the bathroom.

*****

I was tipsy, a bit above that though, I had staggered my way to the bathroom successfully. And while I was washing my hand, I felt a strong hand grab my butt. He grabbed it so firmly that it almost hurt.

"I've watched you all night," He said. He smelt of strong whisky. I didn't have much energy, the least I could do was turn to push him off me. I guess I didn't know how much energy I had left, I just knew I didn't have much. I turned to leave the bathroom but he held my hand and dragged me back to him.

"What do you think you are doing?" He asked and laughed wickedly. I felt my wrist breaking off from his stronghold.

What do I do? I had to think fast.

"Do yourself a favor and be steady except you like it rough"

What? Rough? What was that?

" Please let me go" I begged struggling against his hold. "Please" I pleaded, even more, hitting his strong chest after finding myself on the ground already with his heavy body over me. Everything seemed to blur at that moment. My bones had weakened the more, I knew I wouldn't be able to fight off this big guy.

"Please you're hurting me, just let me go " I begged once more.

" Give me what I want, be a good girl and I'll let you go," He said violently pulling on my dress. Was that my fate? To get raped in a club? How will I lose myself to a drunk man who raped me in a club? 'God please help me' I prayed silently

"Stop moving I say"

I didn't stop moving, I didn't even get to see his face clearly, because all along, my eyes were closed as I fought to free myself. I was almost giving up on the fight to accept my fate when someone pushed the door open in a vigorous way that emitted a very loud sound.

"Get off her, you punk!" My savior thundered

That voice was a familiar one.

Then, I heard a fist punch as the big guy over me stumbled to the ground in pain, another punch and he lost consciousness because I didn't hear his groan again. Slowly, I opened my eyes still feeling the least energy, while I tried to stand. Who was that? I needed to see but I had to make sure I was fine.

"Are you alright?"

Was that? I froze as I heard the very familiar voice. Next, it was Abby running to me and hugging me from behind.

"Oh my God! Are you okay? What happened to you?" She asked pointing to the man on the floor.

"Don't worry I'm fine" I said holding the wall to prevent myself from falling.

" Did he?-" She asked suspiciously pointing at my savior. Oh yeah, who was that? With my drunk self, I could still recognize faces. Maverick was standing right there looking gorgeous and that annoyed me the most. Immediately, I felt disgust flow down my spine. Was he my savior? If yes, that explained the familiar voice I heard earlier. Why did he save me? What the heck? I didn't need him saving me, he could go to hell for all I cared. Then I staggered towards him while Abby held my hand just in case I was going to trip and fall.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him pointing to his chest with the little energy I had left. He didn't respond. I should have said thank you to him for saving my drunk ass but at that moment, I was fuming. All anger from the admission I lost and getting married to him was piled up and ready to burst.

"Why do you care? Did I ask you to-" I was cut short trying to catch myself as I almost fell. Even he was going to catch me. I would have flared up if he did.

" Don't touch me" I began after I'd gotten my ground. "I don't need you saving me. I don't care. Why can't you call off the wedding jerk?" I said. In my head, I thought I yelled enough at him.

" you are drunk, you should head home," He said wanting to hold my hand.

"Wow! That's all you can say. Besides, do you not want me to be safe because you are going to marry me?" I spat taking my hand far from him " Do you not plan to do the same thing this man wanted to do to me?" I was insane, I didn't have any control over what came out of my mouth. But still, I saw the need to do so, to pour out my mind to him.

"I would do no such thing" He began. " You are with her right?" He asked Abby and she nodded.

"Why? What's your deal? I dare you to call off the wedding" I said. But his face was emotionless. He didn't seem to want to respond to my question.

"No?" I questioned, yet he didn't respond to my question

"I'll order an Uber for you two. Take her home" He said to Abby and began to walk towards the door. "What's the address?" He turned to ask Abby.

"1850 W Superior St, Chicago, IL" she responded and he walked off

" I hate you Jerk" I shouted behind him.

"It's fine Nat," Abby said and I sank into her body for a comforting hug. I needed it and many more.

"The Uber is here" I heard Maverick say "take her home safe," He said finally. Abby held my shoulder while we walked to the door.

"I hate you Maverick," I said almost in a whisper. Not sure if he heard.

When we got into the black Bentley, I just dozed off.
