The Visit

I made it back to my house. The things that have been happening to me recently.

Ugh, what is going on? Besides the obvious war between the wolves and demons I found out about two minutes ago. Along with yet another wolf next door. Kenneth brought him in. Oskar had a limp as he went in. I wonder what they did to deserve this.

My phone then buzzed, I opened it to find a text from Mindy. She was going to come over since she knew I was home. School ended for the day a little bit ago so that made sense. Thank goodness, even if I have no plans of telling Mindy what's been going on recently, I still would like to talk to her. Maybe she'll relax my mind of recent events.

My doorbell rung and I ran downstairs, jumping the last step. The door revealed the happy girl I've known for years. So why did something feel... off?

It was an uncanny valley feeling. She looked normal and she was wearing her normal deodorant, so why did it feel weird? Like someone took my memories of Mindy and mushed them into what's standing in front of me.

I dismiss it. It could just be me. I would believe anyone else would be a bit shaken up from the past two days.

We made a few snacks in the kitchen. A bowl of white cheddar popcorn, another bowl of pretzels along with some sprite. Up the stairs and in my room, we lay on our stomachs and chill out. She showed me a few videos and a handful of videos of Stinky. Even with this, the feeling wouldn't shake. Was it my guilt of not telling her about the pets when I was at school? If it is, might as well tell her now.

"Hey, Mindy?"

"Yeah, Linsday?" She closed the screen on her phone and gave me her full attention.

"You remember the literal day I kicked Tiffany's ass?"

"Yeah?" She crunched a pretzel as her eyebrow raised at me. "What about it?"

"Well, someone told me neighborhood pets were getting killed off so keep Stinky put up for a while unless she's in your sight." Mindy placed a hand on mine. I didn't feel any warmth coming from it. I wanted to pull my hand away, but I didn't. It felt rude somehow.

"Oh, Linsday, that's so thoughtful of you. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if something happened to Stinky." Her hand was now on my forearm. It was colder then when she held my hand.

"Yeah, don't mention it. I know you like that cat quite a bit, so I didn't want anything to happen to her." I wanted to pull my arm away for sure, but my body didn't comply. I was frozen, like prey, ready to be consumed by whatever was holding me. Whatever it was that had my arm, it wasn't Mindy.

Mindy's recently painted fingernails started to trail up my arm. She was doing that little finger walk people do before seducing them.

"You know, I heard that Halvor wasn't such a fan of us after the other day." She traced a beauty mark by my elbow.

"Really? He said that he wanted to be friends the other day." I was shocked that I could speak. I was even more surprised I grabbed a pretzel and took a bite of it. The crunch made Mindy's eyes squint for a half second like it bothered her, a scowl was on her lips. This was weird even for her.

Her hands were no longer on my arm, they were wrapping themselves around the back of my neck.

"Linsday?"

"Yeah, Mindy?"

"You know we can be more than friends, right?" She started to lean in for a kiss. The fuck?

"The fuck?" I shouted as I pulled her off me, pushing her away lightly. I got up from the bed.

"You better start talking cause you're being really fucking weird right now!" I threw my arms in the air as I demanded an explanation.

Mindy sighed. A voice much more mature than Mindy's expelled from her face. Her? What gender would a skin walker even have?

It had a seductive tone as it shook the blonde curls Mindy tends to every morning, sighing to itself.

"I told him this plan wouldn't work. All girls past the 2000s eat hot chip, be bisexual, and lie. What a fucking joke."

I felt a single heartbeat thud against the back of my skull. My lips released one word.

"What?"

The skin walker's, or Mindy's face, started melting. Melting then taking itself and transforming. Her eyes made a more sharper edge, her skin became paler as her face contorted. Her figure stretched to the ceiling and her eyes were no longer the blue I knew. They were now an emerald green and adored a woman in a simple red robe, she had horns on her head.

A demon.

The demon rolled her eyes as if she read my mind. "Now, now. That word is so filthy and not the good kind." She manifested a hand mirror and applied scarlet red lipstick, she then closes it and makes it disappear as easily as she made it appear. Then as if she never stopped her sentence, she continued speaking.

"My name is Lilith, like the first woman and queen of everything under your feet. And you?" A freshly painted ruby red nail pointed at me.

"You're coming with me." Lilith smirked as she said this.

"The hell I am. I ain't going nowhere with you." I picked up my phone, I don't know why I did. Who would even help me with this problem?

Lilith chuckled. It was too close to a villain's laugh, as if she had practiced this.

"You see here, I don't think you really have an option in this. I have orders from the head macho himself to bring you to him, alive."

I wished nothing more than to have prayer of mine to be answered. Help me, Lord and Jesus Christ, I promise I will change if you answer this one prayer.

I guess the lord decided to answer this prayer today for a ringtone started to play. It was heavy metal and unfamiliar to me. Lilith pulls out a cheap handheld phone and reads the screen, then my face.

"Next time, wolf girl." With that, she left my room. My eyes then drooped, my body slumped, I crashed onto my bed and was out like a light.
