The First Gate

"No further road available, you get out here." The trunk popped open on cue to the taxi driver's sentence.

We scrambled to get out of the car. I twisted my head around to confirm that it was the trunk that opened and not someone hitting our car or something attacking us. With times like these, you never know what's around the corner.

I wiggled out of the taxi seat on my side while Taraxandra exited with grace and without struggle. The rough leather seat peeled off of my body as I struggled to get out. The hair fuzzed on the back of my hoodie tickled against my neck and ears while not a single hair was out of place on Taraxandra's head. I rolled my eyes at this, I knew I wasn't blessed with good hair but this is a harsh blow to the self esteem right now.
