That moment ended way too quickly. Kortock came back, and they had still not cooked anything.
Diana laughed, though Ian did not know why, and began to prepare the meal. They had to hope that the meat would have the equivalent of carbohydrates as well – it smelled like it was mostly protein, but as Kortock said, they could use some other forms of energy as well.
Ian felt different than he had felt after Lilac had kissed him. Lilac had slapped him on the very same cheek, but Diana had downright fought him, and if that didn't make her worthy, nothing ever would. Ian felt clear-headed with her, whereas Lilac had muddied his waters.
As he bit into the strange, sweet meat of the electric vulture, he thought about getting a wife and becoming a glorified war veteran. It sounded like a decent plan to him.
