Redemption

Eyeing the phone, I reached for it hesitantly and placed it on my ear. "Yes?"

"Hello Alexander," saluted a deep robotic voice. My heart dropped. "Are you feeling better?"

The shock robbed me of speech and I couldn't utter a single word in response which he mocked. "I will take this silence as a no." The crippled kept laughing for a few seconds before adding in a sinister voice. "Allow me to advise you to stay seated on the ground for what's to come."

I didn't have time to ask what he meant by that when I heard a swishing sound followed by the body of one of the two men standing nearby collapsing on the ground with a hole in the middle of his forehead, blood gushing out.

His friend turned hastily, darting his horrified gaze from the dead man's body to me and the moment our eyes met, a bullet came shattering his skull. I flinched in response, my eyes widening and I jumped to my feet, my voice shaking. "You... did that?"
