Emilia's P.O.V
I have always known Stephen from day one. Although, I don't know how true it was, It was said that Stephen and I were born in the same hospital, by the same doctor, but in different years. Stephen was four years older than me.
The first day we met wasn't quite sweet and cute. I was up in a tree house with Miley, my sister, when someone suddenly intruded claiming to be the owner. We totally disagreed and argued saying that we've been coming for a long time. Stephen was having none of it, and during the cause of our argument, I fell off the tree house, and landed into cow poop..
It was so embarrassing, painful and I was beyond mad. He tried helping me up, but I chased him away. After I got treated, I went back there. The tree house was still intact, and so I climbed up. I saw a bunch of bananas lying across, and I was tempted to grab one and eat. From one, I ate the second, third, fourth, until I ended up eating the whole bunch.
That's when Stephen came. He had kept it there for me to eat, as a way of saying sorry, and my little heart was at ease because I expected something horrible to happen after I ate the whole bunch alone.
From then onwards, we became friends, and we shared the tree house together after Miley went to boarding school.
His street wasn't far, I mean it was trekkable. After about twenty minutes walk, I got to the huge 'white house', as Ria and I usually call it.. It wasn't like the house was really huge, it's just that, the area at which it was built consists of smaller house, and theirs seemed to be the giant in the midst.
I pressed the doorbell and waited for someone to speak through the intercon. It was usually the maid though.
"Sarah?". I heard Stephen say through the intercom. That was definitely his voice. My heart clenched as I realised he was waiting for a girl, enough to answer the doorbell himself.
I turned back slowly. Stephen would never have the same feelings as mine. I guess I'm dying with these feelings of mine. As I walked away, a car came to a halt beside me. I hadn't really paid attention to the car as the feeling of dejection hit me, but now I turned.
The car glass rolled down, bringing to light Mrs Smith's bright face.. "Hello auntie". I greeted politely..
"My dear, whats wrong? Did Stephen say something to you?". She asked and I shook my head immediately.
"No I—". I thought of what to say. "I'm moving to town". I broke the news, trying to look for what to say for my mood..
"Oh dear, you're moving to town?". She sighed. "when?". She asked after a short pause.
"Early the next morning". I replied and her eyes shot open.
"That soon? Gosh. Please get in, and spend a brief moment with me before you leave, and I can let you leave without getting something from me of course, else you'd forget me in a blink".
"That's not possible auntie. I can't forget you so easily". You're the mother of Stephen. It'll be difficult forgetting either of you.
"Get in". She opened the car door, and I realised I couldn't escape this. Now, I'll have to go to their house, see Stephen's face and watch him wait for a girl named Sarah, probably his new girlfriend.
I entered and shut the door. "Did you tell Steph?". She asked. Okay, I'm speechless.
If I tell her I've told him, then when I get to their house, he'll be surprised to see me, and that would give me away already.
Then, if I tell her I didn't tell him, she'd ask why, and I don't really know how to lie. Ugh, this is so annoying!
"I haven't. I didn't get to see him even". I replied truthfully.
"Why?". She raised a brow at me .
"I was feeling bad, and I didn't know how to break the news to him". I replied.
"Oh dear". She caressed my cheeks. "I know he'll be sad if you tell me, but you have to mm? Else, he'll get mad when he finds out you left without telling him". She said thoughtfully.
"You're right auntie". The gate rolled open and the car was drove in.
We both alighted, and she entwined my hands with hers. She was like a mother to me, and it didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable, as I was used to it.
I followed her as she led me towards the entrance door. Just as we got to its front, the door fling open. Stephen was staring at both of us, surprised. Then someone suddenly walked to my side. I tilted my head instinctively to see who it was. A pretty teen just like me, was beaming at Stephen. She must be Sarah. I held the urge to scoff.
"Stephen". She called out sweetly, and even his mum didn't seem pleased. After all, she didn't even acknowledge our presence.
"Mum".
"Why are you here?". Stephen asked me as he leaned in, giving me a hug. My eyes darted to Sarah, and she seemed really displeased about it.
"Tsk". His mum spanked him. "Is that your way of saying hello? No wonder, she didn't bother coming in at first". His mum chided and Stephen's brows knotted together.
He must be thinking about it. After all, it'll be weird on his side when he came to answer the door, but no one answered him.
"You came before?". He asked. "Were you the one that rang the bell?".
