The Ground Breathes

Beyond the camp is just a deeper forest.

Staff: "The barriers are ready to go"

Grunt: "Copy that. Miss Vale, the test starts now"

Irene steps over a yellow line and behind her she could hear the barrier closing from where she entered. They have camera's all over the area to monitor her every move. There are even drones to see what's going on from up above.

Inside a bigger tent, 3 out of the 6 Higher-ups are watching her progress. Dalie and Evelyn are watching from another tent but the screens shows just about the same.

Higher-up 1: "History says that The Vale's were all cursed. They may be able to move mountains, but it would only be a matter of time until their prime runs out and their abilities start to rust"

Higher-up 2: "That's why we'll make sure to make good use of her until then. If she manages to kill that monster that is"

Higher-up 3: "You dumbasses might end up killing her right off the bat you know. Making her fight a Humanoid Monster of all things is basically suicide"

Higher-up 1: "Well this isn't something one person should decide on. That is why we voted it out and it just so happens that this was the majority of the party's decision. We'll eventually lose all the time we have to prepare. So the time to act is now... or never"

Irene doesn't know whether she should be regretting this or not. Because she really wants to run away right at this moment, but at the same time she knows she brought herself into this. So she feels like it's her responsibility to at least not die.

She gets closer to the middle with each and every step she takes. And slowly, she could feel the ground vibrate more and more. As if it was alive..... Wait... Alive?

Irene: "Oh crap-"

The ground starts shaking and Irene starts losing her balance. She stumbles down and sees something rise infront of her.

The ground starts forming... a body? Soon, she could see it's eyes start glowing and could see it breath. It was massive and terrifying. The shade coming from the trees covers its face, but it's silhouette is clear.

Slowly, it turns at her.

Irene: "You've gotta be kidding me"

It lets out a loud roar and starts attack Irene with sharp vines. Suprisngly, she could keep up with the monster's speed and dodge all of its attacks. But it didn't take long before it starts forming a weapon of its own, made from the ground, a scythe.

Irene: "Oh you've GOTTA be kidding me"

It starts slicing through the trees and it makes it harder for Irene to maneuver around to dodge the attacks.

Irene: "At this point, It's gonna get me cornered... Guh.. Couldn't they have been at least considerate enough to give me a weapon?"

She thinks about how she could approach this monster with all that she has.

Irene: "I could start beating it up with a tree... Or just stab it with a tree.. I guess?..... I need to know how much blows can this monster take before it collapses. Or if it has a weakness... The head maybe? Oh what the hell I'm just guessing here! I better start doing some action"

Irene goes out from hiding and immediately grabs a tree as if it's as light as a feather. She rushes towards the damn thing and starts, as she had planned, beating the crap out of it.

Dalie: "For some reason, this just looks a bit comical..."

Evelyn: "Beating up a highly dangerous monster with a tree of all things? Never thought I'd be alive to see it"

Dalie: "I mean... What other weapon does she have?"

Evelyn: "Well she could just shoot it with her ability like a railgun. But I don't think she knows how to use much of her ability to its full potential just yet... Look at her, at this point I just feel bad for the monster"

Dalie: "You can build a gigantic coffin and bury it somewhere if you want"

Evelyn: "Pass"
