First glimpse into the Depths (3)

"And your name is?"

I looked over to the girl who didn't get transported to the Depths due to her sheer luck, which seemed kinda ridiculous to me.

I didn't say it out loud, but the sole fact that she somehow was at the right place at the right time was sort of funny.

That was some ridiculous luck.

'It's almost like I met the main character or something.'

"Seraphir Leviathan."

She said nonchalantly as she descended from the second floor.

Each of her steps gracefully demonstrating the presence that the future head of the Leviathan household should embody.

I surprisedly widened my eyes for a split second before returning to my usual stoic expression.

Oh?

For a split second, I lost my composure and showed a genuine reaction of surprise. She was the Heiress of the Leviathan family? Didn't the Leviathan family belong to one of the seven royal families of hell?

I put my hand on my chin.

Where have I gone wrong?

The girl really might be the main character, and this would be the starting point of their story arc.

I had to finish this as soon as possible.

For one, I really didn't want to get involved with such a troublesome person. I could almost even see how she was the kind of person that just attracted problems.

And the other reason is that, even though it seemed like I was in a troublesome position, I still didn't want to arrive late at my first meeting with my employer.

'I really have to finish this as soon as possible.'

I had to stop myself from sighing and showing my irritation to the girl in front of me.

As an adult, it wasn't a sight that I should show to a kid. I should act as a proper example to her like my mother was an example to me.

"Is that so?"

It wasn't a genuine question, but I thought I had to show at least any kind of reaction.

"Then let's start. We don't have much time left."

'Not because I'm worried about your friend, but because I don't want to arrive too late for the meeting.'

Without further notice, I crushed the Ether core in my hands.

Almost immediately, the world around us drowned in a black mass of darkness. Whispers emitted from the black mass, and the air got denser.

Immediately, an outright oppressive force appeared and filled the area. The oppressive force was so strong that I was sure that even some mages wouldn't be able to stand upright.

I knew that the conditions inside the Ether area were harsh, and breathing normally was almost impossible for a first-timer.

I looked to Seraphir to watch how she was doing, as I knew how hard it could be to cross the bridge of the Overworld and the depths for the first time.

Fortunately, she did quite well. It was a reaction that was expected from a devil, as they also experienced a similar feeling like this multiple times, although not as harsh and oppressive as this.

The concept of transferring from the Overworld to the depths was similar to transferring from hell to the Overworld and back. However, that journey wasn't even comparable to the journey to the depths.

I could see how it was gradually getting harder for her to breathe and stand. It didn't take very long until her knees gave up, and she fell to the ground.

"H..hah.. i..s thi..s norm..al?"

Her voice sounded weak and exhausted, barely even able to speak.

Understandably so. It would've been more surprising if she was alright.

I just nodded and just kept waiting as, finally, a black liquid started to gradually rise from the ground.

The liquid felt kind of slimy, and it had a foul smell. Almost a disgusting one even, but it is a process that can't be avoided, so they just had to deal with it.

"Mr..Voi..dwalker?"

Seraphir spoke in confusion as the liquid reached her upper body. Even though she couldn't finish her sentence due to the pressure that her body was enduring and the accumulating exhaustion, I knew exactly what she wanted to say.

"Calm down. It's going to be alright."

It didn't take long after that for the black liquid to expand and completely engulf our bodies.
