"It will seem insurmountable at times, you will feel like you are dying inside. You'll even wonder why you're alive because it hurts so much! But this is a necessary stage of life. Human beings are made to suffer. It is by suffering that we learn to fight and cherish life. Those who have never suffered will never be truly alive."
She turned to him, forcing him to sit up. She planted her pearl-gray eyes in his, marking her words with a weight she wanted heavy enough to etch them into his soul.
"For many reasons, some people will let themselves be eaten by this pain. And that's why it's unfair to have to suffer in order to grow up. But we don't choose the path of life, we take it, like everyone else. No one knows what it will bring, but no one can escape it. Those who wanted to escape it are no longer of this world or are just living corpses. I don't want you to be like that."
She placed her free hand on the boy's hand and squeezed it comfortingly.
