"You really think I'm going to do that?" He asked, a bit shocked.

"Of course. You're always bragging about it." She said.

"Sure, but that's different."

"Oh? And just how is it different?"

"It just is. It's different when you're the one doing it."

"And turnabout isn't fair play in this case?"

"It's just I'm not sure I could do that with you."

"I think you should definitely try."

"It just feels wrong."

She rolled her eyes. "Speaking of feeling things…" She arched her back, pushing her boobs out.

Richard Castle gave in, "Okay. I'll try to do it. But why do you want me to be your muse?"

Kate pulled her tee shirt up over her slightly distended stomach. "Look at that. That is your fault, Rick."

Rick smiled. "I seem to recall that you were an enthusiastic participant."

She smiled back at him. "Okay. I was. But now I'm three months pregnant and look what they did to me. Any other precinct captain and I'd be behind my desk working until I was ready to give birth. But can One PP let that happen? Oh, no! I'm the real life Nikki Heat. If anything happens to me, it'll be bad publicity for the NYPD. So what do the brass do? They send me home for six freaking months. I can't go near the precinct. And the captain who took over while I'm gone is such a brown-noser that he has Ryan and Esposito afraid to even talk to me. I've been home for ten whole days, and I'm bored. I'm going stir crazy. I have to do something. So, once upon a time, you were a writer and I was a cop. And then you became a cop, too. The best partner I ever had."

"And still am." Castle said quickly.

"And still are." Kate said with a smile. "I just want to see if I can write. Even if what I write is awful. The worst stuff ever, I'll have something to do. I won't be bored!

Castle got out his laptop and handed it to her. "Okay. So, what do you want to write about?"

"I don't know. You're the muse. Where do you get your ideas from?"

Castle frowned in concentration. "I follow a gorgeous, brainy, dedicated, compassionate detective around. I'm not sure that's an option for you."

Kate nodded. "Okay, but maybe I could write a Nikki Heat."

"Fine with me."

Kate sat at the laptop and stared at it. And stared at it. And stared at it.

"Well?" Castle asked.

"All I'm getting are the plots for Heat Wave, Naked Heat, Frozen Heat and all the rest."

"I have an idea. Write a fanfic."

"Fan fiction?"

"Sure. It's a lot easier. Someone else has made up the characters, the situations, and the background. All the fanfic writer has to do is move ready made characters around a plot."

"I could do a Nebula 9 fanfic." Kate smiled.

Rick made motions like he was vomiting, but Kate ignored him

Lieutenant Chloe's Adventure

The beautiful chestnut haired Lieutenant Chloe sat next to her ruggedly handsome commander, Captain Max. Chloe looked around the bar for their contact, a sleazy smuggler and career criminal who was their only hope of making it past the Kreevers. Then Chloe saw an average looking man, certainly no match for her handsome captain, draw his weapon and shoot a green skinned alien named Greedo. Chloe leaped to her feet and disarmed the man. "You shot first. You're under arrest."

Rick frowned. "Do you really want to get into a war with the Star Wars crowd? They're a pretty dedicated bunch. And who knows? Maybe Lucas would sue you."

Kate read over what she had written. Rick was doing what a muse should do, after all. "Okay, I'll try something else. But I think I'm getting the hang of this."

"You could try writing something from that Josh Whedon show I loved."

Kate crinkled her nose. "Really? That didn't last as long as Nebula 9."

Rick sighed. "It's not about longevity. It's about talent and creating a great fictional universe. Great acting, great scripts, great special effects. Great everything."

Kate nodded. "Okay. But can I make a few small changes?"

"Sure. It's fanfic. You can write something that's not canon."

Serene Heat

Gorgeous Captain Mala Reynolds shook her long, chestnut curls and winked at her ruggedly handsome pilot, "Rick" Rickburne. The only other person on Serenity at the time was their mercenary hired gun, an unattractive and untrustworthy man known by the nickname Slaughter, for obvious reasons. The only reason that Mala kept Slaughter around was because he was the only one who could fix the ship's coffee maker. Otherwise, Mala would have tossed him out of an airlock for his repeated betrayals of the captain and crew.

"I always wondered why the kept him around after he sold them out." Rick said. "Captain Reynolds didn't seem to be the kind to take betrayal kindly."

Kate nodded and continued typing.

The rest of the crew, Dr. Tam, Shepherd Book and a group of totally unimportant women, including a blonde air hostess companion, who was nothing more than a slut for hire…"

"Do you think you're letting the past get in the way, honey?" Rick said, kissing her.

Kate nodded and decided she'd delete everything after "unimportant women".

She wrote, "We have a train to rob." Captain Mala said.

"That's been done." Rick reminded her.

Kate deleted that and put in, "We have a bank to rob."

"That was the movie, lover." Rick said softly.

"We're going to steal a valuable artifact." Captain Mala said.

"Um, sweetie…" Rick began.

Kate deleted the whole story. "How about a tornado that goes over the ocean and picks up a whole bunch of sharks and…."

"That's an idiotic premise." Rick said,

"Sure, but it was on a TV movie I saw."

"Let's try to keep this real." Rick thought for a moment. "How about that detective drama we watched a few times. The one where the writer is following this detective around?"

Kate made a face. "Be serious, Rick. That was the lamest show ever. It took the main characters forever to see what was obvious: They loved each other. And the excuses they used to keep them apart got sillier and sillier as the series wore on. Let me show you." Kate began typing.

Sillier Excuses

The hot detective looked over at the ruggedly handsome writer. I know I love him and have for the past eighty seven episodes. Maybe I should say something? She thought. She decided she would try. Suddenly another detective dropped his pen and it rolled under her desk.

"Can you help me find it, hot detective?"

Alas, thought the hot detective. I'll have to wait another six or seven episodes to bring this up again.

"It wasn't that bad, Kate," Rick said, laughing.

"It was." Kate deleted the story.

"Maybe you could try a detective show that everyone loved, Moonlighting?

Kate smiled and began typing.

Moonlighting

By

Kate Beckett-Castle

Gorgeous, chestnut haired ex-model Maddie Hayes rolled over onto the naked body of her ruggedly handsome partner, David Addison. They had just made love for the first time and….

"Okay, go on, honey. Write some more." Rick encouraged her.

"I…I can't. Somehow, I just can't write a thing. What happened?"

Rick nodded. "The old Moonlighting curse. It hit you and your Moonlighting fanfic falls apart, just like the show. Rookie mistake. Getting the main characters together kills the sexual tension, just like on Moonlighting."

"That's silly. Moonlighting tanked because Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis lost interest in doing weekly TV and wanted to move on. Check Wikipedia, Rick."

"Maybe, but you still haven't written more than a few paragraphs."

Kate thought. "Maybe I can do an original story. How about a story where a hot, fragile beauty of a writer, with chestnut hair, tags along with a ruggedly handsome detective, and romance ensues. I'll call it….Beckett. Kate immediately began typing and continued for over an hour.

"What do you think?" She asked when she was done.

"Um, Kate, this is pretty much pure pornography. And it's obviously you and me."

"So, I write what I know. And love."

"And you do love me." He smiled at her.

"Although it took me forever to get you to admit it."

"What? You were the one with walls."

"At least I tried. What did you think my little musing gig for Alex Conrad was all about? I was trying to get you to admit you were jealous. Up to then, you had always said you weren't interested in me, even if you acted otherwise. But you finally admitted you were jealous. And I told you I was a one writer girl, and I still am." Kate kissed him lightly, "And do you remember the word I used then? The word you used a lot?"

"Always?"

"Always, Rick."
