Ghost Girls

It's almost midnight and Scott is nowhere to be found. It's the middle of winter, I am standing near the local graveyard and I am freezing my butt off. I am thinking about just going home and sleeping in my warm bed, but then Scott and the others would probably think I am a pussy for running away. Not like I care about what others think about me but I did come out all the way out here, so I might as well see it through.

I'll give Scott around five minutes to show up before I call it quits and just head home. The reason I am even at this stupid graveyard is that it was a dare worth fifty dollars. Fifty dollars doesn't sound like a lot of money, but when you are a teenage orphan living on your own it adds up.

I'm not scared of the dark or anything that is considered scary like graveyards or abandoned buildings. Because in my short fifteen years of living on this planet, I have seen things far scarier than a couple of ghosts. My cell phone reads that it's a minute before midnight and I decide to leave.

I hear rustling in the bush and immediately roll my eyes.

"Come on out Scott, I know it's you."

Letting out a loud sigh, Scott came stumbling out of the bushes to the right of me. He brushed off leaves that cling onto his auburn hair and limited edition Teen Force jacket.

"How did you know it was me?"

"Dude, scaring somebody at a graveyard in the middle of the night is one of the biggest cliches that has ever existed. That and I saw you creeping behind the bushes."

"Yeah whatever," he said as he tried to push me, but I swatted his hands away.

"Anyways, do you have the fifty dollars?"

"That wasn't part of the deal, Ken. You have to actually go inside and wait for thirty minutes."

"I thought it was twenty?"

"I extended it because you didn't get scared."

"Really?"

"Yes."

I rolled my eyes and let out a heavy sigh. "Fine, whatever dude. Just make sure that you have my money ready or else I am going to be fucking pissed."

"Relax man, I got it." He reached into his left pocket and pulled out a crisp green note with the number fifty on it and the picture of the king.

Satisfied?" Scott said as he pulled on both ends of the bill.

I snatched it from him and took a little step backward before he tried to take his money back. " I am now. You can go home if you want. I'll stay here until my time is up."

"I'll stay for fifteen minutes. Just to make sure you didn't run off with my cash."

I shrugged my shoulders and opened the gate. The hinges creaked, informing me that they have not been oiled in some years. Does anybody take care of their things now? I am the type of guy who is always careful when handling my things. For example, when handling my video games, I make sure to wear gloves so I won't have any fingerprints on them.

It is a little excessive I agree but I have to make sure my things last since I am paying for everything myself and my job is shit. Don't get me wrong, I am forever grateful to have a job. You will be surprised just how many companies are willing to hire a fifteen-year-old orphan.

Anyways, I crept along the walking path using the flashlight on my phone to illuminate my way. I don't really have a destination in mind, but I do want to get out of this cold. Continuing on the walking path, I stumbled onto a mausoleum. Perfect, something I was looking for so I can escape this chilling night. There are no letters written anywhere on the crypt so I have no clue who this belongs to or who is buried here.

I walked up the three steps and checked to see if the door was unsealed.

Thank the gods, I thought. The handle easily turned and I opened up the heavy door and let myself inside. I kept the door open just in case I got locked inside. Could you imagine me dying in a mausoleum? That would be a horrible way to go. The mausoleum itself is actually well kept as there are no cobwebs to be found or debris blown in. I would have to guess that this belongs to a wealthy family of some sort. Who else could afford such a pointless building besides the rich?

Now that I have a place to rest for twenty-five minutes, I decided to sit down in the middle of the floor since it is spotless. I take out my phone to see if I can connect to the internet so I can pass the remaining time by.

What the hell? My phone has totally gone haywire! The screen is glitching out and won't even display the password screen. Now that I think about it, it has been getting colder really fast. It's like it dropped twenty degrees ever since I stepped inside of here. As soon as I started to zip up my Dragon-Man coat, it started to get really hot. I'm talking about a midsummer scorching heat wave, even sweat is starting to form on my brow.

I get up and look around, it has got to be Scott trying to pull another prank on me. A stupid prank that has somehow involved changing the temperature outside. Yeah, it was stupid of me to think something so silly.

I can hear the voices of girls laughing surrounding me. If whoever is doing this thinks that I am going to turn tail and book it out of here then they have another thing coming.

"Come on out, you're not scaring me," I demanded. I look really stupid yelling at the wind like this, of course, nobody is going to show up.

A red and blue light started dancing around the walls of the mausoleum. The red one is radiating some intense heat, while the blue one is so cold that I think I will suffer from frostbite if I stand next to it for so long. The red and blue orbs stopped in front of the open exit and started to glow a blinding white light.

I closed my eyes from the light and used my hands for additional shielding. A loud, supernatural sound echoes in my ears. I swear that if I continue to hear this otherworldly sound, I'll go insane!

As soon as the light started, it ended. I open my eyes and see two girls standing where the light was once. Both girls seem to be close to my age, the one on the right has fiery red hair and is surrounded by an ethereal red light. If I squint closely I can barely make out the heat wave emitting from her.

The girl on the left has the same features as the girl on the right but with an ice-blue color. Both of them are wearing plain white dresses and are slightly transparent.

"Will you look at the cajones at this asshole, Noel? Breaking into our home and not even pissing his pants!" The red girl said.

"You don't have to be vulgar, Harper. But, I do agree that he is quite brave entering here all by himself." The blue girl responded.

"Wait a minute," I said, raising my hands in my defense. "I didn't know that ghosts lived here. If I did, then I wouldn't have broken in here."

The blue girl, Noel I think her name is, raised an eyebrow. "You know that we are both ghosts and yet you do not fear us?"

"Why would I fear ghosts?"

"Are you stupid? It's because we are ghosts! Gods, how stupid can you be?" Harper said, getting close to my face so that I can feel the heat that radiates off of her.

"I don't know if any of you know this but ghosts have been recognized as citizens of Liberty City for at least the past sixty years. "

Harper and Noel shared glances at each other. Noel was the first to speak. "It's obvious that we have been out of the loop of the going on of the world outside of this cemetery."

"Yeah, what she said," Harper said as she nodded aggressively.

"I don't want to disturb you ladies, so I'll just leave you two alone." As I make my way toward the exit, a wall of ice blocks me.

"Whoa!" I jumped backward.

"Not so fast, bucko!" Harper said, circling like a shark before a feeding frenzy.

"We're not going to just let you leave here so easily."

Crap!

Am I really going to die in a place like this without even having the pleasure of kissing a girl?

"If you promise to let us live inside your body, then you can escape here," Noel said.

"Are you serious! I can't have two ghosts haunt me! Do you know what it'll do to my reputation?"

"We don't care!" Harper said with her arms crossed. "Do you have any idea what it is like to be dead for the past one hundred years?"

I shake my head.

"It's really boring, I'll tell you that much.""Besides that," Noel interjected. "We want your help in looking for somebody. If you agree to let us stay in your body, not only will you be allowed to leave, but you will also have access to both of our powers."

Noel drew water out of the atmosphere and created an orb of water before freezing it solid. Harper, on the other hand, created a fire.

"If you started out with that, I would've gladly accepted your offer."

"So are you saying that you will help us?" Noel asked.

"If it means that I will be getting superpowers, I'll help you out.

The ghost girls looked at each other silently before speaking.

"You don't even know who we are looking for."

"Details, details. You can tell me later. Just hurry up and get inside me!"

"I didn't know you were into dick girls and necrophilia," Harper said as she smiled smugly at me.

"What are you," it dawned on me that I said something that could be taken out of context. "Grow up!"

" I apologize for my sister's lack of grace. She has the humor of a prepubescent child." Noel said.

She continued, "by the way, we haven't gotten your name yet."

"My name is Ken Waters. Nice to meet you, Harper and Noel." I said, flashing them a smile.

"Likewise," Noel said, as she grabbed onto my left arm.

Harper took the right one. "Once this happens, there is no taksies backsies!"

"Deal?"

"Enough fooling around, Harper. Let us start the process of Soul Fusion."

Before I had the chance to ask what that was, the mausoleum was covered in that heavenly light from earlier. I don't recall what happened next after that.
