Familial Bickering

Ivy walks into Minnicks meeting with the residents, "I was summoned?"

Minnick smiles at her, "Yes. Today, the residents will be doing a kidney recovery and transplant."

"Whos running lead?" Ivy asks.

"They are. They will do as much of the surgery as they can under the extremely close watch of an attending. You just so happen to be the most requested attending."

"Wait. So you're using the same exact teaching method I have my entire career? Wow, really shaking things up around here," she rolls her eyes.

Minnick shakes her head, "You will be in OR 3 with Karev supervising Edwards and Wilson."

Bailey comes in, "No, she's not. She's coming with me for a couple of hours. Let's go, Shepherd-Avery.:

Ivy stops by Edwards, "The recipient is a kid. Are you okay with that?"

"Yes, ma'am. If I need help, I'll call you," Edwards nods.

"Wilson, are you okay working with Karev?"

"Yes, Dr. Shepherd-Avery. I'm fine," Wilson smiles.

Ivy studies them, "Okay. I'm only a call away."

Bailey and Ivy walk up to the nurses counter where Jackson and April are standing. As Bailey talks to April, Ivy leans her head against Jacksons shoulder, causing him to kiss the top of her head, "Where are you off too?"

She sighs, "Mer's house."

"You are running the show until Shepherd-Avery gets back," Bailey tells April.

"Why only until then? I can run the whole thing," April smiles.

Ivy jumps in, "Because the residents are more comfortable working with me. They specifically requested me so I should be here the-"

Bailey stops her, "Lets go."

"Fine," Ivy kisses Jackson before following Bailey.

Ivy rings Meredith's doorbell and only a second later, the door opens, "Can we come in for coffee? I have two patients in the hands of residents and Kepner in charge. I'm angsty to get back."

Meredith nods, "Alright, let's get this over with."

Going to step in, Ivy is interrupted by a text, "Uh, on second thought, I have to get back. There is only one kidney to be shared by the two patients. I need to go."

She races back to the hospital.

Ivy finds April, Alex and Webber arguing in the halls, "Okay, what going on."

April goes through what they are thinking, "So, we give Chris the kidney, and then the 16 year old has to take care of his mom or she dies, and we've saved his life, but left him an orphan."

Alex shakes his head, "He wouldn't be an orphan."

"Yeah, he has a father," Webber agrees.

"A father who used to beat the crap out of his mom and probably him. That's who we'd be sending Chris to," Alex shares.

"The father's here? In the hospital?" Ivy asks.

They nod, causing Ivy to smile, "I have a plan."

She runs downstairs and see Wilson talking with what looks to be the father, "Excuse me, sir. Come with me."

Wilson turns to them, "We can't do this. We can't put his kidney inside her son."

Ivy shakes her head, "If his tests show he's a match, we're absolutely doing it. And when they all wake up, you will all listen very closely to how I tell them."

She argues, "But it's wrong. His wife would never agree to this. She would never accept this."

"If she takes her kidney back, her son could die. Then she would go back to her husband and she'd be dead in a year. Or she wouldn't go back, but die of the guilt that her only child died and we made the decision to not help him. If Chris gets the kidney, the mother may die. And Chris will go to his father where he could end up dead in a year. This way, my way, they both live and can support each other. And I can get the father to stay out of their lives. I'm great and making people stay away. Ask my mother."

Ivy stands next to the father before the surgery begins, "This isn't your save. It's going to be an anonymous donor. You don't get to walk back into their life whenever you want. It's their life and you have no place in it. This is their win, not yours. You can handle being by yourself. You'll walk out of this hospital and never see them again. Am I clear?"

"Yes ma'am."

She looks back and sees Wilson smiling at her as she scrubs in.

Ivy stands with the residents and interns in front of Chris and his mom, "The transplant was a success in the end. There was a problem with your other kidney, Cynthia so we had to give it back to you. Thankfully, there was another transplant that was suppose to happen today that ended up not going through and that kidney was a perfect match to Chris. You both are going to be perfect. Thanks to Dr. Wilson, Dr. Warren, Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Cross. They performed your surgeries perfectly and amazingly."

Cynthia turns to the residents, "Thank you. Thank you all. It's hard to believe that there are people as good as you."

"I agree," Ivy smiles at them.

As she heads home, Ivy sees Wilson on her way out, "Wilson. Are you okay? Do you need anything?" As she starts to tear up, Ivy brings her into a hug.

"I'm married. He-he would hit me. And abuse me. Similar to how Cynthia was."

Ivy hands Aurora over to Jackson, "You know I don't agree with Bailey and your mother's decisions, but we need to play this smart. Meredith's coming back today, which means that April isn't their lap dog anymore."

He shakes his head, "I know, but we're losing ground-"

"Jackson, babe, Minnick will leave when she finds something she deems as better. We'll be here and so will Richard. In the end, we will win. Besides, her techniques aren't that much different than mine. Come on, we got to go," Ivy cuts him off, "Alexus! Christopher! It's time to go, you better be ready."
