In the heart of the forest, far from the prying eyes of the witches' coven, Clarke, Jasper, and their loyal vampires had established a makeshift camp. In its midst, a lone figure stood tethered to a tree, the outcast witch's daughter. Her eyes, wide with fear, still saw them as threats, and her instinct was to flee.
They had waged war on the coven, not out of malice, but to rescue her from a life of captivity. She remained a prisoner, bound not only by rope but also by the tangled web of her own perceptions.
Amidst the quiet of the camp, the crackling of the fire competed with the soft sounds of the forest. Jasper and Clarke sat in companionable silence, the weight of their mission hanging heavy in the air.
"She doesn't look like a witch's daughter," Jasper mused, his eyes fixed on the girl. "She's human. Weak. Look at how fragile she is."
Clarke's gaze remained steady. "Remember why we have her," he reminded Jasper, his voice edged with determination. "In order to get Edward's location from the witch, we need to deliver the girl. I don't care about the human. If the outcast witch fails to keep her word, I won't hesitate to snap her neck."
Jasper raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing. "Cool down," he advised, leaning back against a log. "Our concern should be our fellow vamps. Look at them." Clarke followed his gaze, seeing the hungry hunger in their eyes as they stared at the girl.
"Remember," Jasper continued, "not all vamps here feed on animal blood. We need to take care of this situation. They need to feed, or our human friend will become food."
The decision was made, the plan set in motion. Jasper, along with the vampires who relied on human blood, prepared to venture into the night. Clarke, with those who had mastered the art of surviving on animal blood, would hold the fort.
As Jasper signaled for the group to move out, Clarke's voice called him back. "Jasper," she said, her eyes holding a mixture of concern and sternness, "be careful."
He turned to face her, a small smile playing on his lips. "I'm always careful. The witches are no threat," he assured her.
Clarke's gaze held steady, her voice taking on a more serious tone. "I'm not speaking of witches," she clarified. "I know you can handle yourself. But I'm talking about human blood. Don't be tempted to taste. You know how much you've struggled to adapt to animal blood."
Jasper met her gaze, a silent acknowledgment passing between them. It was a struggle he knew intimately, the constant battle against the primal urge for human blood. With a solemn nod, he turned and led the group of vampires towards a nearby farm, the darkness swallowing them as they disappeared into the night.
In the flickering firelight, Clarke turned her attention to the girl tied to the tree. Gently, she removed the mouthfold, but the girl's scream shattered the stillness of the night. Clarke acted swiftly, replacing the cloth.
"Listen, young lady," Clarke spoke firmly, her voice cutting through the darkness. "We saved you. Your mother sent us. Now, let's try this again. No screaming. If you cooperate, I might untie you as well."
The girl nodded in agreement, her eyes wide with fear. Clarke removed the mouthfold once more, then walked to the campfire. After a moment's contemplation, she returned and cut the ropes restraining the girl. "Don't try anything stupid," she warned. "I can hear your thoughts, and even if you try, there's no chance you can outrun any of us. Come, sit with me."
Guiding the girl to a spot by the campfire, Clarke wrapped an old blanket around her trembling form. "I forgot, humans feel cold. I'm Clarke."
Sofia clung to the blanket, still visibly shaken. "Thank you for saving me, but I think you saved the wrong person. My mother is back in Wallace Town. We were abducted by the witches as we tried to look for our friend who got lost in the woods. I'm Sofia."
Confusion washed over Clarke's face. "No... there's something wrong. You were the only prisoner in the camp. I see what you're doing, playing some mind tricks."
Sofia's voice rose in a desperate plea. "It's true! I have no witch mother. My mother is a dentist back in Wallace Town. I'm telling the truth."
Clarke's frustration surged, her patience fraying. "How dare you! I try to trust you, and this is what you do? Humans!"
In a swift motion, Clarke grabbed Sofia by the arm, dragging her back to the tree as she protested, begging to be freed. Clarke secured her once more, tying her firmly to the tree and replacing the mouthfold.
Clerk's patience wore thin, and she couldn't suppress her impatience any longer. She rushed to one of the vampires, her voice edged with irritation. "What is taking them so long? I'm going to kill him," she joked, clenching her fist with mock determination.
As they exchanged worried glances and hushed words, the forest seemed to hold its breath. Suddenly, a rustling erupted from the nearby bushes. They all turned, their bodies tensing, ready for whatever threat emerged.
The tense silence was broken by Jasper's ragged appearance. His clothes were torn to shreds, and he gasped for air. Clarke sprinted towards him, her voice a mix of concern and urgency. "Jasper, are you okay? What happened? Who did this?"
Jasper, worn and weary, managed to speak through labored breaths. "viper....viper scarheart"
"viper scarheart? Who the hell is scarheu?" Clarke demanded, her eyes narrowing.
"The witch leader from the coven. She's so powerful. I've never seen such power. We need to go back to our sect," Jasper said, his voice laced with fear, as if he were still trapped in a nightmarish reality.
"Calm down, Jasper. You're just tired. I'm glad you escaped in one piece," Clarke reassured, though her own worry lingered.
"I didn't escape, Clarke. She just let go of me to send a message. She's coming for all of us. All vampires, until we give her the one born different," Jasper revealed, the weight of the news settling over them all.
"Where are the others?" Clarke's voice was steady, even as her mind raced with grim possibilities.
Jasper answered by nodding his head towards the bushes, a silent testament to the fate of their companions. Clarke signaled to the other vampires to help Jasper to a quieter place for him to heal. Then, she turned to the rest. "Prepare for departure."
