Lucas looked from Lucia to Hugh. She had asked both of them questions. Lucas didn't know if he should answer first, or if Hugh should answer. He decided to keep quiet and take the back seat. But Hugh was not pleased, "Answer her." He said. Lucas nodded his head sheepishly.
He continued to curse Hugh in his heart. He had never lost face like this before. He couldn't even summon the courage to go against Hugh. Lucia noticed how Hugh and Lucas behaved. She arched a brow at them, she wondered if something had gone wrong. "What's with you both, huh?"
Hugh shook his head and smiled, "Nothing." He said firmly. Lucas wanted to protest, but he didn't dare to. 'These two are alike.' Lucas thought. He didn't take Lucia's curiousness about Hugh's tyranny over him into consideration. Lucia had also intimidated him. Lucas cleared his throat and described the shareholder.
"He is tall. He has dirty blonde hair, a pointed nose, and sunken eyes. He was in a brown suit, that looked too big for his body..." Lucas explained. As he continued to talk, Hugh frowned. The description matched the appearance of the man he had seen.
Even though it was a bit dark at the time and the man had only appeared for a few seconds. Hugh caught the different expressions on his face and also his appearance. The shareholder's blonde hair was particularly striking. "Who is he?" Hugh asked. "Find everything about him." Lucia ordered.
Lucia's words surprised Hugh and he turned to Lucia. He wanted to talk, but Lucia stopped him. "You can go now, Lucas. You should be done in an hour right?" She asked and Lucas nodded quickly and rushed out, decisively. He couldn't wait to get out of the duo's presence.
Lucia chuckled at the way Lucas rushed out. She trusted Lucas' skills. She knew he was good with computers and business, especially hacking. Her grandpa always kept capable people around and she knew everything about them and the company. She turned to Hugh who was looking at her intently.
"Why?" Hugh asked. He searched her face for answers but he could only see Lucia smile brightly at him. He wondered why Lucia had not questioned him thoroughly about why he was so keen on knowing the shareholder. 'Does she trust me that much?' Hugh thought giddily in his heart.
Lucia chuckled lightly, she thought Hugh's thoughts or questions were unnecessary. "It's nothing. I trust you will not make a wrong judgment." Lucia said, making Hugh break into a rare smile. "You should smile more." Lucia said. "You look more handsome that way." Hugh nodded but he had another thought.
Hugh knew and finally admitted that only Lucia could bring a rare smile to his face. He had transited from seeing her just like a little sister to a potential lover. It was too sudden, but Hugh could handle it just fine. He liked the emotions she elicited in him.
"When do you think grandpa would wake up?" Lucia asked with furrowed brows. Even though her sadness had been alleviated. In the back of her mind, she still thought about her grandpa. She knew she could tell Hugh her worries. Hugh moved closer to Lucia and pushed her into his embrace.
"He will wake up soon. It could be tomorrow. You do not have to worry." Hugh said, and ruffled her hair making Lucia tilt her head upward, toward his hand. Hugh chuckled, "You like it?" Hugh asked, ruffling her hair again. Lucia nodded, she didn't feel like she was small.
Hugh was a bit surprised at this and he smiled. He remembered his little sister hated her hair being ruffled. Hugh sighed and brought himself back before he could go down memory lane. "Your food is getting cold. Are you still hungry, huh?" Hugh asked and Lucia nodded slowly.
Lucia unwillingly got out of Hugh's warm embrace. She took the packed food in her hands and opened it. The familiar aroma of egg-fried rice wafted out. Lucia's mouth watered and her stomach grumbled in anticipation of the incoming food. Hugh chuckled and wondered just how much Lucia could eat.
Lucia ate her food with so much gusto. "You want some?" She asked Hugh. Hugh shook his head in the negative. He could not tell her he preferred just meat. Raw meat would be much better, in his wolf form. He watched as Lucia ate with a smile on her face.
He wished he could continue to protect her, and that the smile would continue to bloom on her face. He knew his presence around her would only be for a short time. He would make the most of his time here. 'Can I take her back home?' Hugh wondered inwardly.
Hugh realized that Lucia was only carefree with him and grandpa James, which made him wonder about something. 'Does she admire me because she has not interacted with a more handsome man?' Hugh suddenly felt insecure. He was confident in his charms, but he couldn't help but feel insecure.
Hugh chuckled at his stray thoughts. He decided to go with the flow. Grandpa James had imbued his virtues into Lucia. Hugh thought that if in the end, he left, Lucia would be able to pull through on her own. Hugh chastised himself on that thought. He felt torn.
Lucia had stopped eating and she moved closer to Hugh. She put her palm on his forehead, straightening the lines on his forehead, due to his frown. "What are you thinking about, huh?" Lucia asked worriedly with furrowed brows. Hugh came out of his thoughts and shook his head, "Nothing." He said.
Lucia nodded her head, deciding to let him be. She thought that if he wanted to tell her, he would. She wouldn't pry into his business, but she was still worried. Hugh could guess her thoughts, he pulled her petite body which was alluring to him, into his embrace.
Hugh and Lucia didn't say anything to each other. The silence between them wasn't awkward or uncomfortable, it comforted them. Thirty minutes passed and they were still snuggled against each other. Lucia was about to sleep off when they heard a knock on the door. They knew it was Lucas.
Lucas pushed open the door, after knocking twice. He knew they were expecting him, so he dared to enter without permission. "What do you have?" Lucia sat up immediately and asked. Lucas had a big frown on his face and said grimly, "It is complicated." Hugh and Lucia frowned simultaneously.
Lucia looked at Lucas calmly and said, "Talk. No matter how complicated it is, we will have a solution. I also need you to start having the right work attitude with me. We won't progress if we disagree." Lucia said firmly. Lucas looked at Lucia, her words moved him a little.
Lucas still wanted to evaluate her. Even if he didn't want to agree to her words, the man beside her would make him. Lucas nodded his head to her words. Lucia on the other hand felt relieved. She noticed that Lucas did not deem her worthy of being his boss.
She knew her grandpa James Hugh had not briefed him about her taking over the company. He wouldn't have a choice but to obey her if she finally took over. But Lucia didn't want it that way. She quickly pulled out of her thoughts and gestured for Lucas to start talking.
Lucas cleared his throat, "His name is Eddy Miles. He has been a shareholder for three years. Recently, he got in contact with Young Corporation's COO. They are our business rivals. I hacked into his phone and I got their conversations." Lucas explained and then took a deep breath.
"He has a habit of keeping records of his conversations with his clients. It is a good move but it is fatal, in some ways." Lucas added. He stretched the file and USB drive in his hands to Lucia. "They contain his detailed chats and audio conversations with Melanie Young."
Lucia stared grimly at the file and USB drive in Lucas' hands. Young Corporation and the name Melanie Young rang a loud bell in her mind. Her mouth felt bitter at the mention of that name. Lucia took the file and drive from Lucas, as she tried to steady herself.
Lucas was about to continue explaining but Hugh cut him off. "Leave and come back in twenty minutes." He said. Lucas already opened mouth shut close. He looked from Hugh to Lucia with a frown. He did not know what was wrong now. He didn't sense any change in Lucia or Hugh.
Lucas quickly left the ward with furrowed brows. Hugh on the other hand took the file from Lucia who sat stiffly. She jolted from her thoughts when she felt Hugh's hand on her shoulders. "Is she here to haunt me again?" Lucia asked with a shaky voice and wide eyes.
