Rieka Varon PoV:
Ring…Ring…Ring
I grumble as I throw my alarm clock against the wall. I hear it shattering to pieces, but all I can say is that I despise Mondays. Isn't that obvious? But who doesn't? My mother, on the other hand, will be upset. I've already tripped four alarms this month. I try to sleep for a few more minutes, but I find myself falling asleep again. Before that happens, my brother slams my door open and steals my warm, comfortable sheets. "What are you up to, asshole?" "Let me sleep, damn it," I yell at him as I take my bed sheets from him. He rolls his eyes at me and grabs my sheets once more. "Sunrise, wake up. "Mom made breakfast for us, and we also need to drive to school together because my motorcycle needs to be repaired," I scoff. "I'm not sure how that's my problem," I smirk at him, provocatively. His jaw is clenched, and I can sense his frustration rising. "Just get ready and drive us to school, Rieka," he snickers and walks down to what I assume is the dining table. Serious though, it is not my fault that he is unable to repair his bike. I drag myself out of bed and into the bathroom that connects to my room. I brush my teeth and splash cold water in my face to wake myself up before putting my hair up in a ponytail, revealing my undercut. I go to my closet and pull out some black ripped jeans, a tight tang-top, and my favorite redish flannel to wear over it. Looking in the mirror, I notice myself becoming more confident because I like how this outfit looks on me. I walk downstairs, almost tripping because I missed a step. Oh, no. These stairs will eventually kill me. I walk over to my mother and kiss her on the cheek. "Thank you for making us breakfast," she simply nods and kisses my cheek. I take a seat in the chair, grabbing one of the fruit bowls with various types of lemons and some waffles with ahorn syrup. "I need you both to do something," my mother says as she sits down to give me some orange juice. "For what?" Ethan inquires, his mouth full. I'm not sure if he's more of a dog or a werewolf, but even a dog has more manners than him. "You should chew your food before speaking, son. Anyway, I need one of you to get close to the new girl in town, who is now a student at your school. She recently moved here with her family. I also talked to a few people. They didn't say much about themselves, but they went around the neighborhood to introduce themselves and their family. They appear to be nice, but you never know." I'm not sure how this is always relevant. Not everyone has bad intentions simply because they are relocating. I know I'm not going to do it. The last time I did it, it broke my heart. She was just a regular girl. We were together for almost a year before she discovered who I really was. I mean, if I hadn't been so stupid as to believe she was the one, she would never have discovered I was a werewolf. Everyone makes mistakes, don't they? At the very least, she didn't tell anyone, but her family relocated a few weeks after she found out. But what happened in the past remains there as well.
My brother gets a smirk from me. "Seems like you've got something to do, Ethan." "Why me, huh?" "Afraid to catch feelings again," he said. I know he wants to get under my skin, but I defiantly don't give him the opportunity. "Aren't you the one who claims to get every girl? I think it's the only right decision to make if we want to succeed," I say, tucking the corner of my mouth into a smirk. "Aright, smartass. You are correct. I'll do it and demonstrate how it's done. See you at school," he says as he stands up quickly, grabs his bag, and rushes out the door. I watch over him in confusion until something clicks. He's driving without me. I finish my last waffle and sprint after him. As I stand outside, the only sound I can hear is the engine of the car rowing down the street. It makes me mad. I'm getting angry and want to chase him down and crash the car. "Don't even think about it," my mother says as she approaches behind me. I just sigh and take my schoolbag from her before shifting from one foot to the other. I turn into my werewolf form as I feel every bone in my body begin to crack and my dark brown and black mixed fur begin to form. I grab my bag with my teeth and run toward the school. When I see Ethan, I swear he'll be dead. I grunt and sprint faster, my rage taking over. As I arrive at the end of the forest, just before the college, I relax back into my human form. My bones shifting and cracking back into place, my fur disabering, and my clothes still in shape. I exit the forest and head straight for the front door while slinging my bag over my shoulder. Because I see our car, I know Ethan is already there. When I walk in, I go straight to my locker to get my books for the day. In the hallway, I sense a strange and dangerous tension. I look around, not sure what it is, and see my brother and the new girl. Even though it doesn't appear to be so, it feels like two different worlds are colliding. I shake these feelings away and walk over to them to put my brother in place for the stunt he pulled this morning. My anger is rising once more.
