Chapter 18

In the cave ceiling, a blowhole that stretched the sunlight ray reached to the ground. The sunlight ray landed on some unfinished pieces of an apple. Besides the unfinished pieces of the apple Mayra was there lying flat on the ground facing upwards watching the sunlight beam. She had Tran’s night thinking of a way to break the chain in her leg.

Still as she was watching the blowhole in the ceiling she said, “You know that I cannot survive on apples alone I need another type of food and water having stayed here for two days.” But what Mayra could get back is her echoes. She was aware of her kidnapper was somewhere in the cave hiding in the dark. But she was comfortable I the presence of the kidnapper because she was saved from a death sentence.

Mayra changed his position to seat on the ground and stated doing what she does best, she wrote on the ground while saying, “So how many days have you planned to lock me in this dark place.” As she was drawing on the ground in good luck, she found a piece of wire on the ground. Knowing that this was her only way to get out of the chain she took it. To see if the kidnapper noticed her curiously faced sideways. But the cave was too dark for her to even see a meter away even if the kidnapper was watching her she could not notice. Speculating that she was not sawn she hided the piece of wire.

When she saw no strange thing she said, “You know staying quiet won't convince me that you are gone.” Immediately she heard some movement at a distance and quickly turned to see if she could see the helping kidnapper. Finding only darkness she said, “At least make yourself visible to me so that I can thank you for what you did to me.”

Waiting for any response, she got total silence. Thinking the kidnapper was away she quickly turned to her chained leg and started picking the lock of the chain. After some time of picking the lock, the chain opened. Immediately it opened, she to where light was coming from. This indicate the exit of the cave was at that position.

Quickly she stood and started rushing towards the exit of the cave. With her reckless running in the dark she was tremble and fell to the ground. Before rising she faced backward to see if she was being followed. To her astonished she found a human figure standing beside her. She was so shocked, to much adrenaline pumped into her blood making her dormant where she was unable to stand and run away. Ofori who was the human figure beside her, he stretch his hand to help her rise.

Mayra understand the stranger’s gesture wanting to help her. She slowly and silently gave him her hand where Ofori gently helped her to raise from the ground. In a human heart after Mayra had fully risen from the ground, he silently walked her to the cave exit holding her hand.

When they both reached to where the sunlight was striking in the cave Ofori stood and directed Mayra with his hand that he was holding her out of the cave. Immediately Mayra walked out of the cave Ofori pulled back his burning hand due to the sunrays. The sunrays was a weakness to the beast. Mayra paused faced him and noticed Ofori’s burning hand.

Mayra to where he was standing facing Ofori sunrays was striking her where it was making him unable to walk to her. Mayra noticing he had weakness to the sun she changed her facial expression and said, “Look into my eyes and tell me what you see.” Ofori by stretching his face forward where he face was partially stuck by the sunrays. To where the sunrays landed on his face, it started burning but he could do anything to win her trust.

After a moment of watching him, he pulled back his face to the dark because the pain of burning was painful to him where it immediately started healing back. Then Ofori responded,

“Sadness!”

“If you look more closely you will see Barrett.”

“Who is Barrett?”

“The Arab man that you suck off his blood.”

“Am sorry that time I was not in control of myself.”

“Ofori everything you do has its consequences.”

Then Mayra turned away left leaving Ofori facing her with a lonely look. He had done sin but could not go back to undo them all he had to do is to work to correct his mistakes by doing good. Walking some distance away she shouted, “Thank you for hosting me because I know your weakness.”

Back in the village, the hunter who reported Mayra's case walked out of his hut holding a piece of meat for his dogs. The man walked to his dogs’ cage at the back of his house. Immediately he entered the dog’s cage he found his dogs were busy eating a full cow.

The man took a rock from the ground threw it to the dogs and shouted, “Get out!” to scare them away. But the angry dogs paused their rough eating and faced the hunter while roaring making their unusual long teeth visible to the man. The hunter notices something fishy with his dogs.

Preventing more damages he calmly said to the dogs, “It’s ok!” then he threw the piece of meat that he was holding to the dogs. Where the dogs assumed the piece of meat and continued facing the hunter. The hunter then started walking slowly backward while saying, “Ok! Ok!” this was caused by the dogs eating the rabbit that Mayra was performing witchery with it.

Immediately the man got out of the dogs’ cage he locked it while the dogs faced back the cow and continued eating it.

It was in the evening the sun was burning in the sky. Mayra was squatting beside a river drinking. When she was satisfied she rose took some water with her palms and washed her face. After that Mayra moved back and sat silently where she heard some chatter at distance. Mayra faced to the direction to only to see it was coming from some women washing clothes in a distance away from where she was.

Mayra walked and sat on a rock behind the women who were washing clothes. At the time people in the village was used to her color, they assumed her and continued chatting and doing their duty. Suddenly a lady who was familiar to her walked past her where she noticed her and said, “hello.” The lady stopped faced Mayra and responded,

“Why are you calling me?”

“I know you are Ama’s friend do you know where is she.”

“I might know where she is.”

“Ok, when you come across he tells her I will be waiting for her in the community podium.”

After the conversation, the lady walked away as Mayra stood and walked away.

In the next moment, Mayra walked slowly to the village podium and sat on the staircase. In the staircase, a hanging rope that was swinging at the middle of the podium caught her sight up. At a distance, two-man walked to him and stopped before her.

Mayra faced the men where one of the men said,

“Somebody who is concern about you needs to see you.”

“Who is that person?”

“We are here to direct you to the man not answer questions.”

“It is not Ama am not leaving here.”

“If you will not come with us calmly we will use force on you.”

Mayra giggled and responded, “Haven’t you heard of a guardian angel that made me escape death.” The other man responded, “Do we look at that as if we fear that?”

Mayra to where she was sited she stood facing the men and one of the men held her wrist tightly. Mayra rudely said, “Ok am coming with you so let go of my hand.” The man reacted by letting go of Mayra's wrist and said, “Ok follow us.”

Immediately Mayra's hand was let go she shouted, “Help me am being kidnapped.” One of the men moved closer to Mayra and to kill her high expectations to the villagers by saying, “They do not consider you as one of them so just come with us in peace.”

The next minute Mayra was in the woods standing between the two men who took him. Then at a distance, Osei walked and stopped before her. Mayra not expecting him she asked him,

“You are the person concern about me.”

“All I want is to help you.”

“Ok tell me who do you want to help me.”

Osei faced the men and nodded his head once where the men reacted by walking a distance away. Then Osei faced Mayra and asked,

“Where were you from today?”

“Kidnapped by a Ofori who I presume he is supposed to be dead.”

“Are you going to tell that everyone?”

“Mayra I know Ofori and I have had an encounter with him and he is not a demon as you say he has humanness in him.”

“So he was the one who kidnapped you last time.”

“Look the good side of him, he helped you from that execution.”

“Who else knows about your elders secretly wanting to kill me?”

“Not everybody, only us who we are on the top.”

Then Osei turned to his men and saw they were still standing a distance away from them. Moved closer to Mayra and with a low tone he said,

“Can you do me a favor and don’t tell anybody about him and especially where he stays because it is my fault he is in that state.”

“Let me see if I will consider that, now are we done here?”

“Yes, we are done.”

Then after the words, Mayra turned and started walking away from where Osei shouted to him, “Take my advice go pack your things, and leave because if they catch you they will not forgive you for your sentence.” Mayra assumed Osei’s words and continued walking away.
