꒱.. A red light appears as Samuel pulls the car to rest and turns to deadpan at Shinju, "What did you say?"
"I asked if you were jealous," Shinju speaks with drifting confidence.
Samuel's eyes shift up and down Shinju's figure before scoffing and turning back to the road as the light fades to green.
Is Samuel jealous of the imminent date of Shinju's?
Yes, without a doubt he is.
But for him, it is difficult to acknowledge that within himself much less voice it to the source of his emotions. After mistakenly meeting her and not knowing who her brother was at first, it wasn't long before she grew on him. And with her brother's lingering threat along with his approval of them hanging out, in no time did he grow feelings for the young woman.
Her strange character and weird habits make him question what the actual fuck is wrong with her. But he notices that she sincerely cares for him. And as he does for her, but he hasn't come to terms with it yet.
But does she even have feelings for him?
And that is the prominent question on his mind. And until he is sure, there isn't a peep about his feelings that she is going to hear.
He glances at the daydreaming girl who hunches over slightly as he approaches the curb.
"Maybe I am," he whispers to her pulling a strand of her blossom-colored hair behind her ear as her daydream ends.
"Huh?" She questions glancing at his pupils as they are so close that Shinju can feel their noses brush against each other. Samuel drags his eyes all over her face as Shinju's eyes are locked in place by embarrassment.
"Nothing," he sighs to himself putting more space in between them not noticing the blush fading onto Shinju's face, "We're here. Get out."
Shinju pouts as his usual demeanor returns, "Sammy did I say something wrong?"
Samuel sighs as he turns to the side facing her once again, "No, now go."
Oblivious to the unresolved situation, shinju rushes to plant a lingering kiss on his cheek pushing his glasses up his face a bit. Samuel feels himself lean into her lips, but before he knows it she is exiting the car.
"Bye-bye, Sammy! Thank you!" She shouts as she closes the car door and steps back onto the curb to watch him drive off into the crowded distance.
Walking up the sidewalk it only takes Shinju a couple of steps to reach the coffee shop.
As she reaches for the door handle, she suddenly pulls back as Samuel flashes in the back of her mind.
She feels something but doesn't know what it is nor how to describe it.
Shinju yelps as she tries to soothe her aching head as flashing images pass her by.
Lengthy coffee-brown hair swishing around in an open grass field, a beautiful toothy, gentle smile to match. Their mouth is moving, but she can't understand why he is caressing her hand so intimately.
"Ka-"
She is cut off by the door swinging open to find the big-eared boy concerningly standing over her.
"Shinju, you okay?" Jace ponders as he gently lifts Shinju guiding her into the bright coffee shop.
She sheepishly smiles as the headache fades taking in the packed restaurant in front of her, "Yeah thanks!"
"Alright well Vasco waiting over there, hope it goes well," Jace quickly gets back behind the bar as another customer requests his attention.
She quickly thanks him before her eyes drift to the said table with an unusual sight.
Vasco sits with a matching jet-black suit jacket and pants to complete his white turtle neck for a monochromatic look.
Shinju waves happily at Vasco from across the cafe.
As Vasco finally realizes his date has arrived he waves the girl dressed in pink over to the table so they can start their date. Shinju shuffles her feet as she makes her way over to the wooden table and plops down in front of him.
"Hi, Vasco!" Shinju chirps greeting him.
"Hey, Shinju," Vasco tilts his head under his chin. There is something different about him, something alluring.
Gulping nervously, Vasco reaches for a lock of Shinju's dyed hair and twists it between his fingers while adding a tiny smirk to his words, "You look beautiful today, thank you for the date."
Shinju's face flares up at the smooth comment, so stunned in fact that her mouth hangs open as her brain short-circuits. Vasco quickly retracts his entangled hand from her hair as he gets nervous at the thought of messing this up.
He reaches for Shinju's shoulder lightly tapping her to see if she is alright.
But all that does is startle her into speaking Japanese.
She and Vasco both go quiet at the sudden outburst but are distracted from the rising awkwardness as Jace approaches their table.
"Hey guys, you ready to order?" Jace awkwardly laughs arriving at the table, "Vasco I can get you your regular, but Shinju what would you like?"
"Uh..." she trails off skimming the delicious menu, "Can I get hotteok and uh a misutgaru for my drink pretty please!"
Jace nods as he fastly jots down her order before retreating to go prepare it.
Shinju directs her focus to the fidgeting Vasco and secretly pulls her phone out under the table to search for silly questions to ask on a date.
"Uh Vasco," Shinju looks at the blushing boy, "What pets do you want?"
"I want to get old so I can die with my pet kangaroo! Oh, and I like golden retrievers!" He nervously rushes out.
"Woah! Wait! I like dogs too, though I really want a cat oh or a bunny but my big brother won't let me get a pet," she pouts.
"You have a big brother?" Vasco is shocked, but he is really happy to speak to her and learn more about her.
"Uh-huh! It's just me and him, I think," she happily nods. "Oh, and his best friend visits a lot, but he doesn't like when I call them two that," she giggles.
"Oh Shinju, I got you something, I-I see you wearing pink a lot so I thought you might like this," Vasco digs into his pocket to quickly present a fluffy, hot pink plushy keychain. Shinju holds her pale hands out as Vasco drops the present in her hold.
"Oh my god! Vasco I love it!" Shinju exclaims as she rubs it on her cheek to feel its soft fur even more.
The sounds seemingly fade out as Vasco fixates on the girl's bright smile. He can practically feel her cheeriness brighten up the room. Something about her just makes his heart pump fast and feel so full.
He grabs at his cotton shirt right above his heart, what is this feeling?
"Here's your food!" Jace arrives with a full tray of treats, "Banana milk for you Vasco, and the misutgaru and hotteok for you Shinju. Enjoy!" He places the beverages and the hot plate of pancakes in front of them.
Shinju immediately jumps at the chance to place her straw in her tall glass and sips the drink before exclaiming at the flavor. Vasco takes the chance to drink the familiar drink before staring at Shinju devouring the pancakes.
Shinju feels his lingering stare as she shoots her hand up covering her mouth and swallowing, "Oh Vasco did you want to try some?" He meekly nods staring at the plate.
Shinju cuts off the side of one of the pancakes before holding the fork out, "Say ah Vasco!"
His cheeks flush pink as he nears her gesture hesitantly holding his mouth open.
Shinju carefully grabs his jaw as she puts the piece of pancake in his mouth waiting for him to chew.
"Do you like it?" Her soft, excited voice exudes to his ears as he tastes the cinnamon flavors. He excitedly nods as his chin is still placed in her hand.
"Do you want me to give you one? You should really take this chance ya know, I don't like sharing my food with people," Shinju offers. He once again nods swallowing the pancake.
She goes to put one on his side of the plate when she notices a familiar face.
"Duck man is that you!?"
