Chapter 16: The New

Chan crossed his arms, scanning Bambang's body for certain…. Accessories. He gestured to Ying's bag, which had nothing besides his own personal items, before looking up at Jingfei. "Ying has some more stuff for you, can we…" Chan prompted. Ying instantly went along, nodding his head. Jingfei looked at Ying for a moment before nodding. "Uh, yeah. I guess. Are you cool with that?" Jingfei asked. Bambang glanced at Chan and Ying, before shrugging.

"You let me have my friends over, so yeah." Bambang said, stepping aside. Jingfei stepped inside the apartment, Chan and then Ying following afterwards. As Jingfei walked, Chan took in his surroundings. Keys on the counter, blanket on the couch, empty table with a closed laptop. Jingfei took a left into a hallway, which was placed with three rooms. One was obviously the bathroom, the door was wide open, revealing a nice sink and shower.

But the other two were shut.

Well, one wasn't. It was cracked open, barely. But just enough. Chan let Ying pass him, and as the vampire did, he glared at the elder. "Don't do anything you'll regret. Or anything that will get Jingfei hurt." Ying warned, staring at Chan once more before stepping away and into Jingfei's room. Chan looked around, to see the Bambang not near the hall. He smiles, slowly opening the human's room.

It was larger, but not one that Chan could see himself living in. It had a bed placed on one side of the wall, with a desk and shelf placed on the other side. With that,  there was a closet next to the bed, with different clothing in it. Bambang was handsome, but not in the same way a vampire was. He wasn't inhumanly handsome. But in Bambang's defense, he was human. Chan walked over to the closet, looking at the clothing hung up. It was designer, things Chan himself would wear And just like Chan's closet, none of the luxury clothing had brands. Don't want to cause attention.

As he scanned through the clothing, he noticed a box. It was black, and would practically hide in the shadows. It was locked, and Chan wouldn't be an idiot to say that the key was one of those that were on the table. Chan reached down, shaking the box lightly. It was heavy, heavy for a human. With small and big parts moving around on the inside. But those weren't the things that dropped the heavy box back into its place.

It was a sudden burning feeling, like Chan's own hands were being burned off. "Shit.." He muttered, stepping back. He pulled away, having felt that sensation enough times in his life. He waved his hands, hoping to cool them off. He was lucky silver didn't scar. "You deserve that." Someone said from the doorway. Chan sighed. "Ying, I promise you would also-" Not Ying.

Bambang.

He wasn't glaring at Chan, like he didn't mind some random person going through his things. There was a knife in Bambang's hand. Chan wasn't threatened, he had been through this situation more times than necessary. No vampire would be scared of Bambang. Well, until they eventually notice that the knife Bambang was holding wasn't steel, instead silver.

"A silver stake through the heart will kill a vampire."

Bambang hummed, looking down at the knife before backing up at Chan. "Yeah. I usually use a gun, since my hits are usually on the street. But I rather this be a little harder since you had the nerve to waddle through my stuff." Bambang pointed out. Chan only glanced at the closet behind him, before looking back at Bambang. He sighed, placing his hands in his pockets. "You knew?" Chan questions. Bambang rolled his eyes. "I knew when you pulled him back. Jingfei would always hug me, even if I'm sick. Plus, you don't hide your red eyes and fangs well."

Chan clicked his tongue, nodding. Those two weren't really something he could hide that well. What was he supposed to do, not open his mouth? He knew he could always kill the boy, but he didn't think Jingfei would like him much for that, plus the fact that the carpet might get stained. Humans were always so messy to clean up.

Chan looked around the room. It all looked normal. He looked back at his hands, seeing burned hands. He needed some blood to heal himself. He looked back up at the man. He stared at Chan fearlessly. He held the knife loosely, professionally. And on the knife, a council wax stamp. Chan smiled. He knew that Bambang was a professional. He could tell by the box.

"Bambang, my dear. I think we must have had a situation. I didn't kill a single human being in my lifetime. Ever. Not on purpose, and definitely not for blood. So, that being said, because you are employed by the Council, you can't kill me." Chan pointed out, sighing and shaking his head. "I'm sorry to say it, and I know your aching to-

"You can stop. I'm not here to kill you. This," He waved the knife calmly in the air. "Is for protection." Bambang pointed out. He sighed, crossing his arms. "Can I leave then?" Chan said impatiently. Bambang stayed quiet for a moment, before shaking his head. "I just have one question."Bambang started. Chan gestured forward.

"What are you doing with Jingfei?" He asked, lowering his hand with the knife. He seemed honestly worried about hurting his friend. That Chan and Ying would hurt his friend. Does he think that vampires are that dangerous?  He was silent. Bambang was a vampire hunter, and for the council at that. Which meant he knew as much about vampires as Chan did. Even though Chan contemplated telling the other, he didn't. He would find out when he looked at Jingfei, even for a second.

But even then, it was Jingfei's secret to tell
