Chapter 27: The Burned

Jingfei yawned, groaning and rubbing his eyes. After a very tiring night, he was up in the morning. Everyone fell; asleep in his room, some on the bed, others on the floor. That's what he remembered, however, Ying was still on the bed, and Yang was on the floor. But where was Wei? Ying tilted his head up to look at Jingfei for a moment, before looking around. "Is something wrong?" Ying asked sleepily. He probably wasn't used to waking up in the morning. Jingfei was quiet for a moment before nodding. "No, just Wei isn't here," Jingfei whispered to not wake up Yang. Ying slowly leaned back down, hiding his eyes with his arm. "He's probably just out feeding on someone or something." Ying mumbled, before tugging lightly on Jingfei's arm. Jingfgei reluctantly laid back down, shutting his eyes.

But, he couldn't go back to sleep. Wei would them if he was going out, wouldn't he? Yang, who was on the floor, peeked his head up. He tugged lightly on Jingfei's pant leg, causing the vampling to quietly look up. He beckoned Jingfei forward, to which Jingfei did lean towards him, only for Yang to whisper in his ear. "Let's go." Yang whispered. Jingfei leaned back, looking at Yang hesitantly, before sighing. He slowly got off the bed, before helping Yang up. Ying was going to be mad that they did this, but it would be fun. Also, Ying can't be mad at them for walking around. They were both adults after all.

Yang and Jingfei quietly walked out of the room, shutting the door before smiling. "It's cold here." Jingfei whispered, reaching into his and Bambang's coat closet, grabbing a jacket. He tossed it to Yang, who caught it easily, before grabbing one of his own. They looked at each other, both with excited and happy faces, before beginning to walk to the door. Yang unlocked and opened the door, silently stepping out, Jingfei doing the same.

After shutting the door, they began to walk.

"So, were you asleep? Did I wake you? Sorry." Jingfei instantly apolozide. It was something many people told him to stop doing but he didn't listen. Saying an apology was never bad, but not saying it could end terribly. "No, you didn't. I have been up for a while." Yang shrugged, placing his hands in his coat pockets. It was spring, true, but it was also five am in the morning on a cool Sunday. Of course it wouldn't be the warmest of weather.

Jingfei hummed softly and nodded. The air slowly blew around them, the sun just starting to come up. Jingfei's hand went up to his neck, feeling the velvet black necklace that hung around his neck, protecting him from the viscous sun. Jingfei sighed a breath of relief, lowering his hand to his side. "You were awake? Why?" Yang clicked his tongue, tilting his head to the side for a moment, his head turned away from Jingfei and towards the cars.

"I was worried about Chan. He doesn't disappear for the entire night like this." Yang mumbled softly. His voice sounded both berdoned and hesitant, a combination Jingfei had never heard from such a boy. The two knew each other very well. Not only that, but they also seemed to love each other, as friends or as something else Jingfei didn't know.

"He said he was going to the bar, that could be where he is." Jingfei pointed out, his lips turning into a frown. He crossed his arms lightly over his chest, holding the heat his body was creathing. Yang shook his head once again. "He wouldn't be at the bar for this long. Besides, Bambang's with him." Yang pointed out. Jingfei wasn't going to say anything else, since after all, Yang knew Chan way more than Jingfei did. He knew what the elder was likely to do.

"Well, if something happened, he would call you." Jingfei said, letting go of his loose arm formation to pat gently on Yang's shoulder, before letting go. "Is this the direction of the cafe you work at?" Yang asked, looking around. Jingfei did the same, before humming. He had been walking this way for a while, he wasn't shocked that he accidentally took Yang this way. "We can go back, if you would like." Jingfei offered, but Yang smiled and shook his head.

"No, I wanna go to the cafe now."

Jingfei smiled, and happily nodded. He patted his pockets, before frowning. "I didn't bring my wallet." Jingfei pointed out. Yang quickly patted his pockets before groaning. "Dang, neither did I." Jingfei sighed, shaking his head. "It's okay, we'll go another time." Jingfei smiled. It was weird that he was able to hang out with Yang like this. The two had never hung out before, not without one of the others also being there.

"I'm curious about something." Yang started. Jingfei groaned, fake dying as a way to say he obviously doesn't want to hear Yang's question. Yang rolls his eyes before continuing. "Anyways, now that you know that vampires aren't fiction, would you want to be one?" Yang asked curiously, looking up at Jingfei, who didn't have much of an answer.

Did he want to be one? Did Jingfei really like being a vampire? It felt like a burden, but maybe it was fate. Jingfei didn't really believe in fate. He didn't believe in destiny, nor did he really believe in anything more than a fortune teller. But now, he didn't know what to believe. His thoughts on a lot of things changed once Wei had told him the news.

His thoughts on the world, his thoughts on happiness, on life. All of that changed. Jingfei was a very optimistic person. At least he thought that. He was optimistic, but he wasn't naive. He knew about the dangers of the world. He knew not to go out after a certain time alone, since it was dangerous. He knew how to be safe. But now, that all changed. Jingfei wasn't optimistic, not anymore. He didn't want to save the world, he felt… broken. Like a puzzle piece that can't quite fit. Can't quite understand how the puzzle works.

"I regret ever stepping onto that street."
