Jingfei shut the door behind him, seeing Lin Feng laugh softly. It felt like he was interrogating a villain. Only, Lin Feng wasn't the villain. He was one of them. "He seems very mean and rude, but he's also loved by most customers." Lin Feng says, reaching to grab different ingredients. This was where most of the bread got made, and it seemed that's what Lin Feng was doing.
"Me, right?" Lin Feng asked, looking over at Jingfei, who stood still next to the closed door. Jingfei stood there for a moment, before understanding what the boy meant. Jingfei felt awkward that he knew about his and Yang's conversation. But that didn't stop him from saying his next words. "Your a vampire, right?" Jingfei asked. He didn't know why he had to interrogate Lin Feng. He could have been cool about it. Could have acted like nothing happened.
Lin Feng doesn't look up. Instead he grabs a metal bowl, adding the necessary ingredients for bread. It didn't look like Feng needed measurements. Not for the yeast or vanilla extract. However, when he grabs the blueberries, he seems very precise. Counting exactly twenty-six blueberries. Jingfei didn't know why, since the recipe just said a cup, but either way, Jingfei waited for an answer.
Lin Feng licked his teeth, pouring the blueberries out of his pale hands and into the bowl, before beginning to cover the dark blueberries with the now thickened dough. "Yeah, last time I checked. Why do you care?" Lin Feng asked, looking up at Jingfei, who didn't have much of an answer. He stood there quietly for a minute. "Uh….. just.. Curious.." Jingfei shrugged. Lin Feng gave out an annoyed sigh, leaning on the wooden counter and looking up at Jingfei. "Get out." Lin Feng muttered harshly. Jingfei stood there for a second before nodding, quickly walking out and shutting the door behind him.
Kai looked over, and seemed to notice Jingfei's weird expression. "Ignore him, he's an ass." Kai said, Jingfei quickly nodded his head. He walked over, tapping Jingfei's shoulder, probably the most amount of affection Jingfei has ever received from Kai, before walking to Wei and Yang to give him the drink. "Thank you!" Yang said happily, taking a sip of the caffeinated beverage.
Yang's eyes widened as she gasped. At first both Wei and Jingfei looked over worriedly, but then Yang gave Kai a thumbs up. "It's good!" Yang complemented. Jingfei let out a sigh of relief as Kai nodded. "Thanks." Kai said simply, before disappearing into the kitchen. Wei looked over at Jingfei. "Cameras?" Wei asked hesitantly. Jingfei shook his head.
"He's a vampire?" Wei asked next, sliding into a booth. Yang sat down with him, as Jingfei slid on the opposite side. "Uh, yeah. He is." Jingfei confirmed. Wei softly nodded. Wei clicked his tongue. "I have a feeling he's a vampling. And not a good one." Wei mumbled, staring at the door that led to the kitchen, where both Lin Feng and Kai were.
"I don't know, he didn't seem jumpy when he saw us. Especially you two. Usually vamplings are more than willing to become a part of a clan." Yang mumbled, taking a sip of his pastel orange smoothie. Jingfei sat there, listening to Wei and Yang's discussion. "We're a clan?" Jingfei asked, both confused and curious. Wei shakes his head, but Yang nods.
"No, we aren't. Vampire clans are never good. They are a group of vampires, and are identified by something. A tattoo, a ring, anything. They are basically gangs but for vampires." Wei explained. "No, they aren't always bad. And,you are basically a clan. You are a group of vampires that are identified by the necklace. That's why most don't try to hunt you guys." Yang countered. Jingfei reached into his shorts to grab his necklace, a dark crimson color in the shape of his fang. A way so only he could use this necklace.
"But aren't these used so we don't get burned by sunlight?" Jingfei asked. Wei nodded. "That was the initial purpose. Chan only gave it to people that he trusted. Me, Yang, you, and a couple of others." They heard the door open, and Kai walked out, a plan of beautifully made chocolate chip cookies ready to be put on display. Yang looked up, his eyes widening. "I need one of those. Right now." Yang ran over to Kai at the counter, asking for one. Jingfei frowns. "I wish I could have one." Jingfei mumbled.
Wei looked up, sighed, before shaking his head. "Technically you could. But you'll get a terrible stomach ache after. Also, blood tastes better." Wei pointed out. Jingfei shrugs, but he doesn't disagree. The mere fact that blood can taste like anything, makes him slightly happier.
Yang walks, no skips back, a warm cookie in his hand. "He said he wanted me to have it cause I'm your friend!" Yang said happily. When Jingfei looked over, he saw Kai, with an actual smile on his face, as he cleaned the display. But when Kai looked up, his blue eyes meeting Jingfei's red ones, he rolled them, huffing and going back to a frown. Jingfei turned around as Yang got back into his seat. "Okay, sorry. Cookie break, what were we saying?" Yang asked, taking another sip of his drink. Wei and Jingfei stared at him for a moment.
"Nothing. What are we going to do about him?" Jingfei asked, his voice close to a whisper since Kai was out. Wei frowned and thought for a moment. "Nothing. He doesn't deserve to be watched until he did something wrong. He's probably been a vampling for a year or two, probably why he can work and is used to seeing vampires." Wei whispered just as low, looking down towards the table.
Yang shook his head. "Until there is a report that he's a casse, we just kinda got to hope for the best." Yang shrugged, crossing his arm and leaning back. Jingfei slowly nodded. "But isn't it hard to live as a vampling without someone teaching you. If you guys weren't there I wouldn't have survived a day." Jingfei pointed out. The whole table was quiet for a moment, each person thinking. Wei was the first to speak up. "Well, almost all vamplings that aren't taken care of by their protectrice tend to be dead within a week. Eventually, instincts take over." Wei shrugged.
Jingfei slowly nods in understanding. He had a feeling that would be the case. Yang slid out of his seat, going to sit next to Jingfei, causing the vampling to scoot over. Yang's scent was of fresh baked cookies. Jingfei sucked in a hesitant breath. "It's okay, you have me and Wei and Ying. You'll grow up to be a nice and strong vampire-" Wei gave Yang a glare, causing the boy to shut up immediately.
"So what I'm understanding is that Lin Feng somehow taught himself to be a vampire. Or he has someone helping him. Their protectrice?" Jingfei asked. That was the only two possibilities. It Is most likely that someone is helping Lin Feng. But, though Jingfei rarely worked with Lin Feng, he wouldn't be shocked if somehow he managed to do it. Wei lightly shook his head.
"I don't know."
